[May 21st] Not Another Accident (Apollo)

on September 03, 2011, 11:50:31 AM

"Healer Thorpe!"

Vivienne blinked and looked blankly at the mediwitch that nearly walked into her as just she was leaving the break room. It was too early in the morning for anyone to be saying her name in that high an octave-- a forbidden pitch, when you've only just started the first shift of the day. Merlin, she must look like hell. "Is there are problem?" Viv asked politely, peripherally noting the rapid pace of staff rushing down the fourth floor corridors: "Don't tell me we have another accident? Mon dieu, it's like everyone in the wizarding world has forgotten how to use their wands."

The tiny mediwitch shook her head vehemently and then jerked it in one direction: "Hitwizard. Ackerzonne. Just came in, we've put him in his room and I can't find anyone else for treatment..." Of course she couldn't. They knew better than to hand Viv a Hitwizard without first seeing if anyone else could take the case. The Healer grimaced and thanked her colleague before heading towards the private treatment rooms, where Hitwizards were given personal quarters as a result of the frequency of their visits at the hospital. Vivienne could never tell if they were daring, reckless (probably both) or incompetent. She didn't care; if there was anything more infuriating than an Auror, it was a Hitwizard.

The room door was open as Viv approached Ackerzonne's unit-- he was probably being prepped by a mediwizard but she would have to tend to the worser wounds if there were any. Which, odds are, there were.

Apollo flinched as the mediwizards applied new tourniquets and pressure to his multitude of wounds. It was a complete mess. He had, for probably the hundredth time, broken his femur. Quite literally on top of the broken bone, a large chunk of his thigh had been take out, if not for the blood, it may have looked comical; almost as if someone had bitten it. His left arm hung limp, dislocated at the shoulder, and there was a rather large gap on the left side of his torso from where a curse had ripped into him. Apollo inhaled sharply from the pain and felt broken ribs.

With his one good arm, he gripped the railing on the bed. "Damn that hurts!" he shouted, his knuckles growing white. The mediwizards offered their apologies. "But in all seriousness," he said through gritted teeth to the mediwizard whom he had been conversing with. "Is there a reason why every person I'm ordered to bring in has a fondness for Blasting Curses?" The mediwizard smiled and popped his arm back into place with the wave of his wand, causing Apollo to flinch again.

With his left arm now useful again, Apollo motioned to his chest and muttered, "Ribs." The mediwizard quickly healed them as well, and Apollo thanked him. Over the commotion he thought he could hear footsteps approaching his room. 'That should be the healer then,' he thought idly as turned his head.

But when he saw who it was he cursed his luck. "Miss Thorpe," he said formally. Why did it have to be Thorpe..?

"Miss Thorpe." The familiar Hitwizard greeted Vivienne appropriately, in spite of his state. They were all familiar really, having each been on the floor more often each month than some people did in their lifetime.

"That's Healer Thorpe, Ackerzonne," Viv replied with a wry smile as she walked over calmly and waved one of the mediwizards aside from the foot of the bed: "Walked into another deathtrap, oui? I won't be surprised if they bring in your corpse one of these days." Her tone was unpleasant but conversational-- not really meant to affront or provoke, it was her way of filling in the miserable silence when treating the Hitwizards. They were easier to tolerate when you weren't deeply pondering the damage they were doing to themselves (Merlins knows what their victims looked like).

Vivienne placed one hand below her patient's leg wound and equipped her wand in the other: "Staima... staima..." She murmured, tracing the wand across the exposed flesh. The bright, crimson blood ceased its gushing and trickled slowly. It's steady flow, now directed to stream within Apollo's body, made it easy for her to see the broken femur. She wondered if this was the wizard's trick bone or if his legs were constantly being used as some kind of physical defence-- mending this particular break had become routine in Ackerzonne's room. The mediwizard went ahead to deal with the torso while she handled the femur.

"So," Vivienne looked up at her patient wearily and pressed down on the calf to straighten the entire leg, "Blasting curse again? Your targets have not been very creative lately." They were required to wait a minute while the bleeding fully clotted, so she kept the leg down with a firm grip-- perhaps a little firmer than necessary. But he could take it.

Apollo gave a slight shrug. Deathtrap was inccidentially the appropriate word this time around. The man he was after did in fact set up a zone that was meant to explode the second someone crossed into it. Luckily, Apollo threw a rock past the barrier first and set it off. "Yes," he replied flatly to Thorpe. "And I'm sure some day it will happen, but until then," Apollo held up both his hands. "I'll keep showing up back here."

He flinched as Healer Thorpe mended his leg. "Never getting used to that..." he muttered. Apollo let out a great sgh as she pressed down on his calf. Thorpe, while very good at her craft, always seemed a little... harder, on Aurors and Hit Wizards that came through. Possibly because they came through so often.

Apollo gave a slight nod. "Yes, they all seem to want to be the next Pettigrew, or something." He shook his head. "It's really getting out of hand. This one actually did manage to blow up an entire alley way. Took most of himself out with it, actually." That part was technically true. Apollo had surprised the fellow, and he hadn't fully stepped out of his own trap when it was set of..

"Oh well, made my job slightly easier. Assuming you ignore the fact that after he blew himself up he just started shooting curses in every direction."

"Episkokaley... Vivienne whispered, wand held to the broken femur once the blood had set around the edges of the flesh wound. The jagged edges of the bones glowed warmly and slid into place with a muted but sickening crack. One ear listened on to Ackerzonne, rambling on about his most recent target, the other kept a vigil for the mediwizard tending to his ribs. Similar cracks were heard and Viv knew that she could leave her colleague to deal with the abdomen for now. She concentrated on the leg.

"I suppose it must be pleasing when the villain does the job for you." The Healer murmured absently as she moved away and grabbed a large crystal phial from the closest work surface, where brews were sometimes prepared. Regeneration Elixir. "This will sting a bit..." she warned a patient and then flashed him a quick, impish smile: "But you already know that."

Carefully, Viv dripped the elixir over the flesh around the bone, each silken pearl drop falling and adhering to the flesh like cling-wrap. It would take couple of hours before he had his whole leg back again. An hour if he was fortunate today (she doubted it, considering the circumstances). She watched as a creamy froth began to appear along the wound and the regeneration of flesh began its steady process. Vivienne had once used this potion on herself-- the sensation it gave was both painful but ticklish. Not pleasant.

The witch glanced up at Ackerzonne: "Now if only you could make my job easier and watch where you're going next time. Will you need any tonics for pain or rest when we're done here?"

There was a sharp gasp as his femur healed itself. Apollo found it amazing that it hurt more to heal the thing than it did to break it in the first place. There had to be a reason for that, but he didn't know what it could possibly be. He gave a slight, if somewhat fake, laugh as Healer Thorpe commented about making her job easier. If only it were that easy.

"Contrary to popular belief, I was watching where I was going." Apollo smirked slightly. "But when it comes to massive clouds of dust and debris, it's not exactly easy to see a curse coming at you. Let alone ten." He shrugged. "But next time I'll try and do a better job of minding where I step."

With that, Apollo shook his head. "And no thank you," he said in the same light tone. " I figure you can save it for someone who isn't in here every other week and actually needs it."

"I figure you can save it for someone who isn't in here every other week and actually needs it."

Vivienne glanced up at Ackerzonne's face, watching it carefully as he replied to her enquiry. He said it in a fairly able voice, not particularly strained and no signs of putting on a tough front. She had to be careful with the Aurors and Hitwizards, they all seemed to think that they were more than human when it came to pain or painkillers.

Pressing her lips together in concern, Viv threw her assistant a glance-- the mediwizard was just mending another rib, which was hardly cracked. It wouldn't be as painful to heal. "When you're done with that, fetch a mild sleeping tonic for Apollo, won't you?" He nodded his head and held a bottle of the regeneration elixir to the patient's abdomen.

Viv looked back to Ackerzonne with mock sternness: "I'll release you when my colleague is done and you had better take the tonic when you go to bed or you won't get a wink of sleep."
