[June 15th] Turn Your Head and Cough! on September 02, 2011, 10:50:54 PM It wasn't like they were in bad health; both of the Fayettes had probably been in better shape around Christmas, true, but even now they were both strapping, broad-chested, muscular and completely well. They still needed proof to say that, of course; the logic of this was lost on Dax, but Dion had gotten his twin up early in the morning to get his checkup along with him. He suspected (correctly) that Dax was just being difficult because he wanted to sleep the entire week after graduation. Dion couldn't blame him; having that pressure of exams gone, even for a few days, was wonderful. Of course, they were both adults now. They'd never have a truly carefree week again. They both sat in the Reception area, Dax flopped sideways on the nearby bench and trying to catch up on sleep, and Dion sitting in the chair next to him with a magazine on his knee. The identical pair occasionally got odd looks, but Dion simply licked his finger and flipped to the next article. "Do they design these to be boring or something?" Dax's voice was a tired drawl, and his twin didn't bother to raise his head from the bench. "Hospital waiting rooms. They're like...designed to suck all joy from your soul. Finding out your relative's dead would be an improvement."Dion gracefully, and with complete dignity, set his magazine aside and punched Dax on the head. "Ow! Jerk!" Dax was being loud about it on purpose, Dion was sure. "Oooow! I need a nurse! Preferably a hot one. Rawr." Dax's tone slid into a more sultry one that completely dispelled any notion of him being actually hurt. Dion rubbed his forehead. He loved Dax, he really did. But sometimes, a punch to the head might do more good than harm, in Dax's case... Skip to next post Re: [June 15th] Turn Your Head and Cough! Reply #1 on September 02, 2011, 11:02:30 PM Anna grumbled under her breath as she stepped into the elevator and the door closed behind her. She'd been assigned to check ups today, a task she found incredibly tedious and boring. Every Healer-In-Training was required to do them at least once a week, and although Anna hated them, she wasn't about to argue. She liked her job too much here to jeopardize it by complaining. Anna stepped out of the elevator and instantly saw who her patients were. They were two young men, obviously twins, around the same age as her brother, and both very handsome. One of them was lounging in a chair and the other was flipping through a magazine. She shook her head in amazement and a little amusement as the one reading the magazine punched the other twin on the head. Luckily she didn't hear Dax's comment about a hot nurse, otherwise she would have felt inclined to break the Hippocratic oath and hex him. She approached the twins and stopped a few feet in front of them."Misters Fayette?" She asked, though she had no doubt who they were. "I'm Anna Jenkins. I'll be performing your check up today." He patted down his shirt, tugging at the collar to straighten it out as Dion stood up. Dion extended his hand to Anna, politely, and Dax was brushing his pants off as Dion introduced the two of them. He had time to look up and nod as Dion said, "Nice to meet you, Miss Jenkins. This is Dax, and I'm Dion," in a tone that all but dripped with the added, I'm the smart one. "G'day," Dax offered, smiling widely and extending his own hand to the young healer. Maybe his Merlin-directed request for a hot nurse had actually been answered, though Anna was wearing considerably more clothing than his imagined candy striper. Such a pity. She could have pulled off the spike heels, too...ah well. Another time, perhaps. "So we both goin' in, or do we need to play rock-paper-scissors to see who goes first?" Dax asked the two, completely ignoring his twin's pointed look. "'Cause any more time out here and I'll throw myself out a window to escape the boredom." It was rather cute, if a little ridiculous. She took Dion's hand and shook it, pleasently surprised to see that at least one of them had good manners. "Nice to meet you too." She nodded to Dax and held out her hand to shake the other twin's hand, fighting back a smirk at Dion's tone. She shook Dax's hand, noticing how much Dax was like her brother Gabriel. So smooth and self-confident, if a bit immature. "No, no, I can see you both at once. It'll be easier that way. You can follow me." She motioned for them to come with her before turning on her heel and heading down the corridor that lead to the check up rooms. She opened the door and put out her arm, allowing them to enter first. Dion followed Anna with long strides, his twin trailing behind. Both of them hadn't been in the hospital in years - not since Dax's childhood accident, in fact. Dion glanced at his brother, but Dax seemed unaffected by the stroll through the hall. Still, Dax usually hid worry behind a veneer of immaturity and he certainly seemed in full on leering mode. Worrying. The check up room was small and functional. Dax immediately sat down in the chair by the door, instantly relaxing. Dion hoped that meant he got to go first; best to get it out of the way. He stepped aside to let Anna close the door, and quirked an eyebrow at Dax. His twin nodded to the silent question, and Dion turned back to Anna. "Looks like I'm up first, then. What needs to be done?" He asked the healer, standing with his back ram-rod straight, his posture as uniform as a military sergeant's and his tone matching it. But she found it made patients more at ease to have the door closed. She rolled up her sleeves some, and set her clipboard down. She could have simply charmed the papers to float in front of her, but she had always preferred the muggle clipboard. She liked having something to hold in her hands.Anna nearly shook her head at Dax's behavior. "It says on your file you're a Qudditch player Dax. Has the game worn you out so much you can't stand?" She joked. She smiled at the way Dion straightened up, his back a straight as an arrow. "You can turn in a circle for me....Please remove your shirt." She said, marking something on his chart and keeping her voice as professional as possible. Skip to next post Re: [June 15th] Turn Your Head and Cough! "That would be a mistake," Dion said charitably, as he unbuttoned his waistcoat and tugged at his tie. That was one disadvantage to dressing up: It took longer to get the stuff off! "Dax doesn't play." He said, and smirked; almost uncharacteristically, he threw his brother a bone in the form of a lie. "Not at school, anyway. After the Locker room Fiasco, Madam Hooch banned him." Given Dax's attitude, Anna could fill in any meaning behind that she liked. With what Dax got up to, all of the possibilities were probably something he'd do...He folded his shirt, waistcoat and tie neatly when they were off, running a hand through his spiky hair. He leaned back against the exam table, arms at his sides. "We're up for vaccinations and so on, too," Dion said, more to see if the chart she held agreed with that. From what he knew, they were. Anna repeated. "Sounds interesting." Anna flicked her wand and a stethoscope appeared, which she placed in her ears and then on Dion's chest."Breathe deeply." She advised, listening to his heartbeat. "Sounds good." She murmured. "Yes, both of you are. I like to leave those until last, some patients have a thing about needles. I can do them at the same time. Dax, could you stand? And remove your shirt too." Skip to next post Re: [June 15th] Turn Your Head and Cough! That had almost hurt. "An' exams ended just a few days ago. I'd rather be asleep." Dax smirked as Dion twitched subtly from the cold metal against his chest, his twin following the healer's orders and breathing in and out deeply. Of course, Dax was all too happy to follow Anna's order, and his own t-shirt was off with practiced ease and just a hint of sexuality in the movement of his hips. Some habits were hard to break. "S'Dion that plays Quidditch," Dax said, as he did this, tossing his shirt aside so it landed on Dion's carefully folded clothing. "Keeper. He sucks at it, though." He grinned as Dion's originally steady breathing stuttered, Dion having stopped focusing to glare daggers at him. Shirt off, he wandered closer, leaning on the exam table behind Dion. Anna pulled the stethoscope away, nodding her head. "It sounds fine." She tapped her wand on his arm, and an invisible pressure tightened for a moment as numbers floated into the air. Anna tapped her wand again, and the invisible band relaxed. "Blood pressure's fine as well. You're quite healthy Dion." Anna's eyes happened to trail over as Dax slipped off his shirt, and Anna fought back the blush that threatened to appear on her cheeks. "Nothing like brotherly love." Anna said to Dion, as he glared at his twin. "I'll check your breathing and blood pressure now." She told Dax, motioning for him to come forward. The mocking tone hid a genuine concern; Dion's hardworking habits had forced them to slip him sleeping potions in the last few weeks of the school term. "He tried to get every single NEWT. "Well, there's your reflex test," Dax said, rubbing the back of his head.Dion seemed a tad embarrassed, even though he stayed resolutely silent. Dax, never one to let awkward silence reign for any length of time, looked to Anna and smiled. "You go to Hogwarts?" He asked Anna, sitting on the exam table. Are you going to keep playing Qudditch?" She asked. She waited until Dion was finished hitting his brother again before picking up the stethoscope and placing it against Dax's chest now."Breathe deeply." She said again. "You two are rough with each other." Anna commented, listening to Dax's heartbeat for several minutes. Anna looked up from his chest when he asked her a question, taking the stethoscope out of her ear. "No, I've never been to Hogwarts. I'm from America. I went to NWA." That was never not a weird feeling; he flexed his fingers to alleviate the faint tingling at his fingertips. "We're both looking to join the Auror force. There won't be time." Or a place, really. Diagon wasn't exactly a good place to have a game 'o Quidditch in the backyard. If you had a backyard. "Yeah, well, boys will be boys,' Dax said as Dion rotated his wrist, popping it. Dion, however, was far more interested in Anna's further comments. "America?" He asked, leaning fully against the exam table as she worked on Dax. "Why did you come here, then?" He added, curiously. St. Mungos was one of the best wizarding hospitals in the world, true, but it was still a considerable change, he imagined. And a gamble. "I talk to everyone," Dax was saying, talking over the tail end of Dion's question. "Especially cute girls." And his smile was instantly full to the brim with flirtatiousness, making it very clear who he thought was the cutest girl in this room. Skip to next post Re: [June 15th] Turn Your Head and Cough! Still, it was clear that he too was curious. "Or could he not tell you?" Dion asked, afterwards. The prospect of ending up in the hospital had, of course, crossed both twin's minds; the reality of it, though, had yet to truly sink in. "Hah." Dion could see that point. Their body count was getting distressingly high, for a 'peacetime' issue. Having people from other countries wanting to help was both flattering and distressing, in a way. It meant they thought help was desperately needed."Hey, but they're all underage," Dax was saying, as Dion once again slipped into momentary contemplation. "Or have boyfriends or are lesbians. Or, well." Thank Merlin he didn't say what 'or well' meant out loud. Dion would have found his wand and silenced the idiot then and there. "Besides, career-focused women aren't common at Hogwarts. They're all too focused on boys." Skip to next post
