I hope this letter finds you well.  I had forgotten to thank you for your company and kind words of advice.  Though I visited you out of a sense of obligation, you graciously greeted me as an equal and welcomed me into your warm home as a friend.  I am curious if you wouldn't be so lenient as to meet with me again.

Perhaps you have heard the rumours concerning my upcoming contract negotiations; I am reaching a time in my life where I may finally find a more proper path to follow.  Though the road seems long and arduous before me, I do wish to be a better man.  As you'll agree, then, it would aid me greatly to have you as a friend.
