First Impression: He is a kind, outgoing person.  People love to talk to him and he loves to meet new people
Any odd/outstanding features?: A scar on his right hand from being bitten by an alligator in his youth (not very big but noticable as the scar doesn't tan)

Simon walks with a sturdy step.  His voice is deep (not overly so) and he speaks the typical speed of a native speaker speaking one of the many languages he knows (will be fleshed out in Special Abilities application).

Personality Description: Simon Chevalier is an intelligent, witty, creative, kind, and caring person.  He is a very chill person who will try all attempts for a peaceful settlement.  Despite this, however, he loves to help others and will always stand up for others.  Due to this, some people feel that he can be a bit nosy.  He is also strongly opinionated.
Simon absolutely loves the outdoors and Nature.  If he could he would choose to live outside.  He also has a certain connection with animals - he seems to understand them and can communicate with them (Special Ability application will flesh this out more).  Simon loves to read as well, and can usually be found either outside looking for some Magical animal, or inside in the library.  As such, Simon loves Hogwarts as it provides him a place to learn about the world he never knew about until he was 11.
He thinks very logically, but is able to come up with creative solutions as well.
He doesn't quite know what he wants to do yet, but he wants it to involve his Special Ability.
Simon always treats people with kindness and respect until they do something wrong in his eyes.  He would rather stop speaking to a person than let any disagreement escalate to a fight.  Because of his desire to give everyone respect and his belief in non-violence, some people think he's "too good to be genuine".  Some also feel that he tries to hard to be friends with everyone, which can lead to more conflict.


History:Simon was born on October 4th. 1992, in Dover, England, to two Muggle parents, Jacques and Sofia Chevalier.  His father is from France while his mother is from England.  His parents had always wanted a child so he was received with delight and a loving home life.  Simon grew up bilingual, which only helped his Rare Ability to not only pick up on the 'languages' of animals but also real life human languages. 
He was taught the values of good work ethic, fairness, tolerance, and being an all around good person.  His family is quite wealthy (his father is a doctor and his mother is an artist).  He doesn't have any siblings, but has several extremely close childhood friends.
Simon loves school.  He was a quick learner with nearly everything.  He is particularly gifted with learning new languages and communicating with animals.  He enjoyed drawing, camping, reading, and playing with friends.
Being a Muggle-Born, Simon had no idea Hogwarts even existed.  His whole family, including himself, were extremely excited to have been blessed with such a gift.  He does well in all of his classes, but his favorite and best subjects are Care of Magical Creatures, Herbology, and Ancient Runes.
His love of animals comes from his home life.  Ever since he was born he's been surrounded by animals - at his own home he owns two cats and a dog, while one of his maternal uncles owns a farm.  As a child he would read books about many different types of animals and be fascinated by them.  His favorite thing about being a wizard is not necessarily the fact that he can do magic, but the fact that he has literally millions of new magical species to learn about.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Simon was chosen for Ravenclaw because he displays several of the traits of the House, such as wit, wisdom, and cleverness.  The Sorting Hat had a hard time placing him though - he was almost placed in Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.

Writing Sample: Simon looked at the castle with wonder in his eyes.  It was gigantic and seemed to loom over the entire Grounds.  "How do Muggles not know about this place", he thinks to himself.  As he steps off the boats and enters into the Great Hall, he is greeted with a stern looking witch.

"Chevalier, Simon" said Professor McGonnagall.  Simon quickly walked to sit onto the stool.  As soon as the hat was placed on his head he heard a small voice.
"Great wit, desire to learn, definitely a Ravenclaw.  But you also hold strong beliefs in favor of tolerance, chivalry, and hardwork.  You're difficult to place, you are."

Simon saw a Third Year picking on a First Year and acted quickly.  "Who the hell do you think you are!?" said Simon, with an almost unrealistic cool.  "Leave him alone now, or you'll have to deal with me."
"Th-thank you for helping me," said the scared First Year.  "No problem," smiled Simon.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Simon is a Muggle-Born with a thirst to learn and make a place in the Wizarding World.  He is a Fifth Year Ravenclaw student who loves all things involving Nature.  He seems to have a Rare Ability to pick up languages and modes of communication very easily.  As such, he can 'speak' to animals.

Special Ability: Rare Languages
What level is this ability at?: Intermediate (Advanced with more common animals such as cats, dogs, hippogriffs)
At what age did your character gain this ability?: Around the age of 2
How did they learn or hone this ability?: This ability came to him naturally.  It first manifested itself when Simon began picking up languages - he quickly learned English and French (the languages spoken in his home).  After that, he could just hear another language and learn it in about a months time.  As he was a Muggle-Born, his parents had no idea this ability was Magical in origin.  He also can sense the body cues of non-Human beings, such as cats, dogs, horses, squirrels (basically any animal).  His ability to sense body cues and vocalizations allows Simon to communicate with animals as if he were 'speaking' to them, in a sense.
There was no specific location in which he honed this ability, he learned it as he lived his life.  By the time he was admitted into Hogwarts, he had figured out how to have full-length conversations with many small animals and spoke English, French, Spanish, German, Finnish, and Japanese (he used grammar textbooks and seemed to absorb the information).  The language absorption is no different for magical languages - he's spent time learning Mermish his Third Year and is currently working on the language of the Goblins.
Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?: Simon uses his ability for fun and to help others, including the animals themselves.  The ability to learn multiple languages quickly, however, has made Simon very much fascinated with other cultures from all around the world.
Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability: Nothing physically happens to anybody.  While using his ability to speak with animals, he must reach a state of calm to fully understand what the animal is trying to get him to understand.
