The wand is smaller than average and is made of a light brown elm wood. The Unicorn Hair Tail came from a Unicorn Male. The wand's decoration is steam and leaf like.
Physical Description: Once standing average height the first thing anyone notices about Didymus is his height, or lack of it. He stands at 4'2'' due to a magical mishap a year and a half ago. Apart from that he appears to be a rather normal looking man in his late thirties. He has curly brown hair, that was once longer than it is now, and a slightly larger nose than most would expect to fit his face. His eyes are a deep dark blue and they have two very bushy eye brows above them. His face has a few wrinkles, around his mouth and forehead, but less than many men his age.
His dress sense is rather odd. He wear bright colours, yellow, green, blue etc and he can be quite adventurous with his clothing colouring. He usually wears a cloak and suspenders. In recent years he has started to develop a belly. He carries his wand and a pipe. He often spells faintly of tobacco.
Personality Description: Didymus is a true Hufflepuff. No one has ever described him as mean and he believes if you don't have a good thing to say then don't say anything at all. Didymus is a very kind man. He enjoys helping people and he would never ignore someone if they were in need, even his worst enemy, not that he has one though. He has been described as upbeat, jolly and jovial and he likes few things more than a joke, with students and colleges alike. His own jokes are usually bad and rarely get anything more than a pity laugh. Didymus is able to make friends everywhere he goes with seemingly no problem. This is due to how likeable he is. Another Hufflepuff trait Didymus has is tolerance. He is from a pure blood family and many would expect him to brag about such a thing but the truth is he would prefer to be a Half-blood or Muggle and to many who believe in purer blood supremacy he is considered a blood traitor. This has had no affect on his teaching but he believes that some of the pure blood students dislike his attitude. When school holidays are near, and the students do not need to study for O.W.L.S or N.E.W.T.S he generally lets them play games in his class as he doubts they will focus to the best of their ability.
Although many students, especially the younger more playful students, like the small Professor some have critiqued his teaching style as too laid back. This is an extension of Didymus as he is generally care free and untroubled. This makes it hard for him to punish students and he usually gives more points than he takes away and he hates to give detentions. The only time he gets angry is when a student puts their own or another students safety in danger. Transfiguration is one of the most dangerous, if not the most dangerous, subject at Hogwarts in his mind. He gives students warnings when the spell they are about to learn is dangerous and when students point wands at each other during times like these he will quickly disarm them. This change in temperament, from laid back and jovial Professor Tawse to serious and watchful Professor Tawse, can be confusing to some of his students.
Didymus can be forgetful, and he has been late for class once or twice. He does not forget the important things, like spells that he needs to teach and when dinner is, but the lesser things can fly from his mind rather easily. Didymus enjoys to eat, and he has developed a larger belly in recent years, and he has a very sweet tooth. Being a Hufflepuff Didymus believes that the ends don't justify the means at all. Didymus is a very morale person and he would not break those morales for anyone or anything. Didymus dislikes confrontation. He dislikes getting into fights, both physical and verbal, and no one would describe him as aggressive. However this has often meant he can be easily pushed over by others to avoid an argument.
Didymus is also loyal. In the unlikely event that another battle of Hogwarts would take off he would, without a doubt, fight to defend the school and the students. Didymus is not afraid to share his emotions and he is very colourful and out going. He can sometimes over step boundaries due to this though. His main aim in life is to be happy and he has achieved this. However he would like a family but doubts that will ever happen. This is the only thing he feels is missing from his life.
The Professor has a house on the Isle of Gometra, a small cottage built for his diminutive size.
He is proud of his Scottish roots, though he doesn't have a Scottish accent, but not of his family. The Tawse family is famous for it's long history and Pure blood. Didymus could not care less about that and he is sure the days of Pure bloods are over anyway as sooner or latter the last pure blood family will have to marry someone with muggle blood. In recent years his name has been stained by his younger criminal cousin.
Didymus can't stand incorrect grammar. He also loves swimming and the rain. Didymus likes things to be neat and tidy. He likes his books to be in order and he can't stand a messy house.
History: Born into one of the oldest and purest Wizarding families you may expect Didymus to have snobbish parents who would never mix with Muggles. Well that is far from the truth. His father Alban Tawse married the pure blood witch Margaret Douglass. His mother's family were similar to the Tawse family, though they could only trace their blood line to the Renaissance, but they cared little about their pure blood. In fact it was simply coincidence that generation after generation of the Douglass family had fallen in love with other Pure bloods. His mother was the youngest of three sisters. His aunts had both married muggle men and virtually abandoned the magical world, one of them being a squib and the other not being the greatest witch in the world. Many pure blooded families would of cut the two sisters out of their lives. But it made no difference to the Douglass family.
His mother was a kind woman but Alban's side of the family were unhappy to be connected in any way to Muggles or Squibs. They wanted him to leave his wife but he decided to leave them and he cut the entire Tawse clan out of his life and moved to the Isle of Skye. He commuted via the flu network each day to his job at the ministry of magic. The first few years of his life were normal. He fell, he played, he cried, he laughed etc. His life was rather uneventful.
His parents taught him wrong from right and he has always thanked them for that. In his early years he mixed with Muggles far more often than he mixed with magical children. The Island was a great place to grow up and there was a great sense of community that hi e enjoyed. He learned to be kind and caring. From a young age he was able to sense how people were feeling and how to help them. Didymus always had a lot of friends. He enjoyed nothing more than playing outside, running in the garden and digging. He loved digging and still does. To this day he is a brilliant gardener of both magical and non magical plants.
He showed the average magical talent that most wizarding children did. Things moved when he got angry etc. When he was five years old his mother gave birth to twin sisters. Didymus couldn't of been happier with the addition to the family. He became a very protective brother and they were one of the few things he would ever get in a fight over. When they started dating he would follow them and make sure their dates didn't get to close. There was no real drama in his life. He never lost a family member, his house was never set on fire and his life was, as far as he saw it, perfect. However this was because his parents were very good at hiding their fears.
Didymus was born in the year that the first Wizarding War began, 1970. Luckily the Island he lived on was untouched for most of the war and trips to he mainland were not very common. However his parents were worried as his father went to London everyday. He worked in the ministry and no one knew if Voldemort would do next. Every day his father came back home alive his mother was thankful. His parents, though Purebloods, were both disgusted by the death toll and the way Voldemort was slaughtering people left right and centre. They decided that Margaret's sister's, Mary and Anne, should come and stay with them. The house was made larger by the three men who now lived inside it, Alban and his two brother in laws Oliver and Cassius. The two Muggle men were fascinated by magic but were upset it had caused them to uproot their entire lives.
Although crowded Didymus enjoyed the close family atmosphere. His cousins, seven in total, were great additions to the games he played with the local children.
Near the end of the war his parents had decided that he would be taught at home. But with the sudden death of Voldemort it was deemed safe enough and Didymus went to Hogwarts. He was bubbling with excitement when he arrived and he was quickly sorted into Hufflepuff. He loved the school. A good all round student he got good marks in most of his classes and he played in the Hufflepuff Quiditch team from his third year onward as a Chaser. He was always sociable and he thrived at Hogwarts. He made hundreds of friends at the school and he keeps in touch with most of them. During his time on the Quditich team he disliked the Slytherin team more than any other. They were never above cheating, which annoyed the fair play Hufflepuff's to no end. By this age his sisters had already been identified as Witches. In his fifth year they joined Hogwarts and were both sorted into the same house as their brother. He was happy that they were Hufflepuffs and wanted to take them under his wing. However they found their big brother embarrassing and would rather sit with their friends than him.
When they started dating he was not happy at all. He would follow them. On one occasion his sister and her boyfriend were in an empty part of the school. They thought they were alone and went for their first kiss. This was when Didymus showed himself and scared the boy half to death. Didymus would never hurt the boy but he didn't know that. The boy turned and ran and his sister was furious. They laugh about it today though.
When Didymus left school he entered the DoM as a member of the Experimental Spells Department. He focused on Transfiguration, as he had always excelled in this area. It was during his first year that he studied to become an animagus. Under a Transfiguration master he took allot of time to master the ability but after 15 months he was able to transform into a European Otter.
He created many spells during his time at the DoM. Most of them were defensive and very few were of the offensive nature. However that all changed in 1995. He was asked to develop offensive techniques to help fight the Death Eaters. The rise of the Dark Lord was a terrible thing and he wanted to help but it saddened him to harm anyone. However in the end he developed new spells that helped Auror's capture Dark Wizards and Witches.
After the Second war was over things settled down a bit more. Didymus focused on his job and his extended family. His sisters had children but that was never interesting to him. He dated, some relationships getting serious, but he never married. Just after his 38th birthday he was working on a new spell that would affect only organic matter. He cast the spell but it backfired and hit the Unspeakable in the chest. He was flew backwards 20 feet and hit the wall.
He awoke in St.Mugos three weeks latter with a massive headache. However that was only half of it. He had, infact, been shrunk. Instead of standing at 5'9'' he was now just over 4''. His hands, arms and legs had also shrunk at the same rate. The healers said they could do nothing and Didymus tried to get on with his life. It took him months to even begin to adjust. He found it to hard to live in a normal size house. A few years ago he had moved to a virtually deserted Island. His house was larger than he now needed so he shrunk it. Both spells are irreversible.
He decided to quit his job and for the better part of a year he stayed at home tending his garden. Eventually he decided to get back into work. Remembering Professor Flitwick he decided to go for the open Transfiguration post at Hogwarts.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them: Transfiguration Professor at Hogwarts - Transfiguration is one of the most dangerous and powerful magical arts and it is Didymus' job to teach this dangerous skill to Hogwarts students. Considered one of the core subjects it is a very desirable qualification to have at OWL and NEWT level. However Didymus also acts as a counsellor and guide to students and is happy to help them with any problems they have. He thinks that emotional development is just as important as qualifications.
Elaborate on your expertise in your field: He is a skilled Wizard but a master at Transfiguration. He easily got Os in his OWL and NEWT examinations in this subject and went on to create many new Transfiguration spells at his time with the DoM. He is also a registered Animagus.
