Raine AlmasyCharacter Birthday & Age: 27th December 1992
City & Country of Birth: Woodstock, Oxfordshire. England.
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood
Wand: Demiguise hair core. 11’’, Cypress. Pliable with an intricately decorated shaft. Received as a family gift at her sister's funeral, when it was found that she had broken her first wand. Russian origins.
Physical Description: Raine Almasy, standing upright in typically confident bearing, is 5’4’’
precisely and unbothered. If you take into account her curls on an especially humid afternoon, perhaps even 5’5’’. She is lithe and strong, and not at all self-conscious about her appearance.
Once you get past the intimidating demeanor, you might notice that Raine has a kind of freckled prettiness about her; best approximating a Waterhouse portrait. The resemblance ends there: she is not static in the least.
Raine likes to keep busy, and with frighteningly competent efficiency - it shows in her direct body language. Once a polite and restrained witch, she has since grown in personality to become a quick and sometimes unpredictable figure in most settings. But especially in duelling. Elsewhere you will find her upright and elegant; a strict Governess’s upbringing cannot be so easily lost. Raine was raised for high society.
Her mannerisms are most relaxed around close friends. Perhaps even languid; reflective of the pampered energies advocated by
The Almasy.. Similarly, she speaks with the cadence and wit of a superior station - obnoxiously complimented by a decisive voice and patronising expressions.
Despite stern appearances, she has a lovely and delighted smile when caught off guard. There is a girlish way about her underneath the sternness, that she doesn't quite realise herself.
Raine has an extensive wardrobe - she dresses with purpose rather than for expression, though she loves a cute accessory. In her day-to-day she wears casual chic outfits. Her party dresses tend to veer on the side of the risque, while elegant attire can very from daring to conservative. She shops in high-end wizarding and muggle spots, and many of her clothes are bespoke. Raine collects fine lingerie.
While she is rarely showy about her wealth, anyone with a good eye for such things will be able to tell from the quality of her clothes to the fine jewellery she regularly wears.
Personality Description: For all her acerbic one-liners and blatant disregard for rules, Raine finds it difficult to obfuscate the kindness that ultimately defines who she is as a person.
Physical orderliness and discipline plays a large role in her day-to-day as a driven auror and former champion fencer in the muggle realm. She often uses her routines as a coping mechanism for losing her twin sister when they were fifteen. Raine suffers from PTSD but her symptoms are less recurrent nowadays: manifesting as sleep walking or the odd nightmare.
Outside of her obsessive resolve, she can be quite approachable. She can be critical but far from judgemental, and is more interested in getting along than in starting a fight. However, getting on her bad side is inadvisable. Her temper, when roused, is lightning.
History: You enter this world alone, and you die alone: this is a sad fact of life. Unless you have a twin. Raine and Sanya Almasy began their lives together as a single narrative. They were born to Roman and Eliza Almasy. Their father was a pureblood Almasy wizard from Moscow, who moved to England as a boy. Their mother was muggleborn witch from a wealthy family. They were a prosperous family who occupied an opulent home in Woodstock, Oxfordshire.
The Almasy are a matriarchal pureblood family whose members live across Europe and the United Kingdom, though primarily in Russia...Although not strictly aristocratic, the Almasy have married into many such families and carry a good deal of social influence. Their name is a familiar one to those acquainted with Russian wizarding society. The Almasy consider twins, especially twin witches, to be omens of good luck .
In addition to their daughters, Roman and Eliza were also blessed with the company of the girls’ inscrutable aunt:
Ira Almasy - little did they know that Ira was a criminal liaison who would go on to commit mass murders and various other appalling crimes.
CHILDHOODRaine and Sanya were brought up with no expense spared to their classical education. They went nowhere without one another, but managed (even under the tutelage of a single unpleasant governess) to develop separate interests.
By the time they came of age to enter Hogwarts, Raine had achieved her first title as a young fencing Champion. Sanya was an excellent ballet dancer. Both witches spoke fluent Russian and French, as well as passable Italian. They were exposed to muggle elements but rarely dabbled in modern devices. Nothing could part them at this point of their life.
HOGWARTSNothing except for the Sorting Hat. The Hat may have
hesitated a fair share before throwing Raine to the lions but it had barely grazed her sister’s head when the shout rang across the Great Hall: “
RAVENCLAW!Their single narrative instantly split into two. The twins led lives independent of one another while at school, although not entirely. They still took meals together and shared a subset of friends who were able to look past the identical exteriors, recognising the distinct personalities underneath. Raine was by far the more forward, protective sibling: she finished every argument that Sanya began and had lost Gryffindor more than their fair share of points.
After their third year at Hogwarts, the Almasy girls made friends with an older squib in their hometown named
Roger Lemon. He swept them away with his charming, robust accent and continual cussing. And also with the irony of his situation - a poor pureblood with no magic (themselves being wealthy halfbloods). The trio was inseparable. Raine was the object of Roger’s romantic affections and Sanya, his closest friend.
The attachment was predestined for tragedy. In the summer of 2008, a mentally unstable and Purist relative came to live with Roger’s family.
Arthur Lemon would later be convicted for the murders of several muggles in Oxfordshire county - alongside
the murder of Sanya Almasy.Sanya’s murder led to the capture of Arthur Lemon. Witnessed by both Roger and Raine, the incident only made minor headlines in 2008. Ira Almasy had gone to great lengths to suppress media controversy. Raine struggled with the fact that while twins may indeed come into the world together, they rarely left it in the same way.
She returned for her fifth year at Hogwarts, changed and withdrawn, but eventually came out of her shell of grief. Raine largely owed this to the patience and encouragement of her teachers and peers. She went on to become Prefect, Quidditch Captain and Tetra-Wizard Champion. Raine pushed herself to her limits and grew closer to her aunt Ira in her sixth year. After taking a term away from her last year at school, Raine returned to Hogwarts in time to complete her NEWTs. She was instrumental to providing evidence that eventually led to the raid on Ira Almasy's building in April 2011.
ADULTHOOD (2011 - 2017)Raine graduated from Hogwarts in 2011 and went on to become an auror-in-training, where the reality of her ambition began with a disappointing amount of paperwork and boring footwork.
Nonetheless, she remained focused on her development as an Auror. Her relationship with the Almasy has grown steadily stronger, with holidays spent abroad in the ancestral home, though she is far from close to her many Russian cousins.
As an Auror, she maintains a reputation for being efficient and for having a generally unforgiving temper. Raine's propensity for fire charms has only increased, and she is clever about using her animagus ability in more discreet investigations. Although she has led a few small cases, she has yet to be placed in charge of anything particularly controversial. Raine is friendly with her fellow aurors and a handful of other Ministry folk.
In the meantime her social life has become quite lifeless. Raine is comfortable in her small circle of close friends and doesn't get out as much lately; a fact of which she has recently grown aware.
She continues to live at Hiraeth Gardens with her flatmate Abigail Reid
[1] and has lately picked up responsibilities as a patron of various charitable organizations, as a way of dispensing a charitable inheritance from her late aunt.
Describe your new job and how you go about doing it: As a younger Auror, Raine is mostly assigned cases in a supporting or shared capacity. She has led a few of her own but nothing remarkable at this point. Her duties include investigation - mostly footwork and interviews - as well as hands-on duelling or chasing up eye witnesses.
Elaborate on your expertise in this new field:: Raine NEWTs in Defence Against the Dark Arts, Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, and Astronomy. She attained an Exceed Expectation in Muggle Studies. She has gone through the required training to be an auror.
Sum up your character in one paragraph:Raine Almasy is a competent and clever Auror, whose social life is a bit lacking. She's friendly enough, despite a fiery temper, but is easily swallowed up by professional ambition. Raine comes from a background of wealth and privilege - although she moves in these circles with the grace of someone raised into it, she prefers the company of her colleagues and flatmate.
