Physical Description: Ishane is tall for a woman, standing at 5'10, with tanned skin and an athletic, curvy body that's more pear shaped than a traditional hourglass. Her hair is a light golden brown that falls to mid back, and is usually pinned up into a braid or bun of some sort.  She has the type of hazel eyes that can change color based upon what she's wearing -going from a yellower hue to a greenish hue.  Her facial features are primarily Caucasian, but also mixed enough that it can't be pinned down where her ancestors came from.

'Casual Friday' would be the best way to describe Ishane's style of dress. She tends towards earthy colors, and only in the garden will she be found outside of her normal blouse/tunic and nice jeans combination. She's fond of dangly earrings, necklaces, and wrist bangles and will even wear them while gardening, though having little kids with grabby hands has curbed her magpie-like love of shiny jewelry. At least her husband has a easy go to gift for her.

Ishane wears little make up, and considers herself blessed with good enough skin that she can get away with a little eye liner and lip coloring and still look good.

Personality Description: Ishane is extroverted, and has a hot blooded temperament that often can take people by surprise. Not a very social person, she'd rather have a few close, strong friendships than many shallow ones. She's hardly shy, however. She can be quite stubborn, and is bull headed about certain things.  She has a low tolerance for things that irritate her,and while when she was younger she would react in anger to slights, maturity and motherhood has made her less likely to snap into a true blaze. She's picked up her husband's snarky attitude instead.

Despite her faults, Ishane is compassionate and affectionate with her family and friends. Her loyalty to her friends and allies is very strong and, in turn, she is relentless to those who become her enemies. She's tough, takes no crap from anyone, and is very protective of those she considers her friends and family. In most of her relationships, Ishane would be considered the energy - she certainly is in her marriage. She will accept disagreements to her ideas, but only as long as they are well reasoned - having her stances dismissed simply due to tradition or elitism leaves her seething.

Due to her upbringing in Texas while she was young, Ishane speaks with a slight southern drawl.

History: Ishane was born in the spring of 1976, and is the only child of Terrence Valencia, a halfblood American wizard, and Anumati Valencia (nee Knight), a British pureblood witch of Indian decent. The two of them met when Terrence was in the UK for business. After getting married, the two decided to stay in the UK, and Terrence moved his home base to their house in Bristol while still maintaining his holdings in the US as a wizarding real estate mogul.

Ishane's  early life was split between the family home in Bristol, and her father's horse ranch in Texas, with more time spent in the US during the high years of Voldemort's reign of terror for safety. It was there that she met her best friends, Fieno Angus and Naminae Costantini.

She started school at Hogwarts in 1987, and was sorted into Gryffindor.  She quickly made friends Sonya Shokavik and was easily drawn into Sonya's group of friends (Tappy, Ryan, Judy, Simon and her future husband Luthas). Her first few years were mostly uneventful, but things picked up during her fifth year, when Harry Potter came to school as a first year - and his shenanigans over her last three years made things interesting.

Ishane had always enjoyed working in her mother's garden as a child, and enjoyed a natural aptitude towards Herbology and Potions, earning an Outstanding for both O.W.L.s, and passing the N.E.W.T.s for both, in addition to Charms, Transfiguration,DADA and Ancient Runes. She had always had a desire to find out why magical plants reacted the way they did,  and after graduating, Ishane decided to pursue further studies in the muggle world, having found that the resources for what she wanted to learn lacking in the wizarding world.  She attempted to get into Cambridge with the rest of her friends, but was ultimately unable to do so and, since she wanted to be with her friends, she decided to study and experiment with things on her own, with assistance from her mother and mooching off of her friends at Cambridge for books and the latest news.

While she had been close friends with Tappy and the others, at beginning around their fourth year,  the relationship between her and Luthas turned particularly volatile. Both of them found themselves increasingly attracted to each other, but argued and antagonized each other all the time - her fiery temper and his arrogance not being a good match. It really wasn't until after graduation, when they were much more mature and mellow,  that the spark the both of them had been ignoring during their later years was allowed to  ignite. 

Within two years the two were married, much to the amusement of everyone  who had seen them interact in Hogwarts. The couple maintained a small flat near the school, but spent a great deal of time staying with Luthas' parents as he trained to take over from his father - as the guardian of the magical site that the Blair estate had been created to protect. They officially moved onto the grounds of Luthas' parents wizarding estate to help out while her father-in-law was recovering from the attack on the Ministry during the Second Wizarding War. They chose to stay  after it was clear her father-in-law would be unable to continue to maintain the estate without assistance.

A year later they welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Tessilah. By this point Ishane was  working for her mother as a professional plant breeder and had started her own test garden and lab at home. Luthas had accepted a position as an archivist at the National Archives. Two years after that, they had a son, Kieran.

While their individual lives were going well, Ishane and Luthas having become published authors by this point, tragedy struck with the death of their friend Judy. Everyone quickly gathered around the Trishna family to give support, especially to the two young girls, as Tapendra was unable to console them in his state. After the Tapendra and the girls moved in with the Whites, the Blairs returned to the family estate, and their lives continued on like normal, if somewhat more empty.

After Graham Bombay was removed, and she was informed that the Herbology professor position was open by Tapendra, Ishane decided to apply. She has found she enjoys teaching while leading her seminars and lectures, and since her children will be joining the school in the next couple of years, she feels that if she is the Professor of  Herbology she can guarantee a thorough education for them. And since both of her children are in primary school, and the castle wasn't so far away that she couldn't commute, she doesn't have that conflict at home. 


Describe your job duties and how you go about them: As the Professor of Herbology, Ishane's duties are to instruct in the care, harvest, propagation and usage of magical (and some non magical) herbs and plants. Given her personal philosophy that since she has access to the best of both worlds she might as well use both; she feels that she should introduce all options available to her students, whether they be muggle or magical in origin, so that they have the ability to choose what's best for the situation that they might find themselves in. Though given that techniques that are purely muggle have to do with machines and purely magical techniques are spell based, there's very little that falls into one extreme or the other.

Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Ishane received her NEWTS in Herbology and Potions, as well as Transfiguration, Charms, Ancient Runes and DADA. She has published several books on the subject, and frequently gives lectures and seminars for adults and children on the care of plants. She has worked as a professional plant breeder and caretaker since graduation. Her mother owns a large magical plant nursery that she works in, and also has her own garden and lab which she uses as a testing ground for new cultivars of various plants, both magical and not.
