Grisly Aftermath
March 16, 2009
"We're handling this," said Griffon Manley, Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. "We want to assure everyone that we are doing all we can to investigate these incidents, and we will keep the public updated with all the important stuff."
The day and night of March 11 wrought chaos upon Wizarding Britain as at least seven reported werewolf attacks were reported -
three of which were allegedly during daylight hours.
Werewolf Capture Unit expert Kurby Bagnold confirmed, "the creatures in the daytime attacks at Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley were werewolves, assuredly." However the WCU has not been able to determine how the werewolves came to be active during the day, and none of these
Direwolves were apprehended.
The Direwolves, as the public has dubbed them, appeared in all ways like werewolves. Some witnesses even contend that they seemed to possess human thought - a trait never found in normal werewolves. "It was like he was looking right at him!" said one witness who saw the Direwolf attack at Calaveras in Diagon Alley.
Another disturbing trend of last full moon's events are that other than the Direwolves, all werewolves identified so far have been lawfully registered werewolves who'd been in full compliance with the Werewolf Registry's guidelines. As such, their names cannot be released. Investigations are currently underway as to how these werewolves came to be fully transformed and outside the confines of a Safe Room.
Four witches are confirmed dead in the wakes of these attacks. Six others are reported missing. St. Mungo's is reporting a dozen cases of werewolf-related injuries, but refuses to say if any of these injuries are bites.
The deceased are
Tabitha Williamson (21),
Georgianne Sleeper (19),
Joella Minkus (25), and
Ramona Flickwick (38).
