 1. OOC Note: Will be joining occasional Fifth Year classes in order to re-evaluate her O.W.L. standing and catch up to N.E.W.T. level.

The chalk hit the board, marking a final period, that woeful punctuation to beat down any argument. The ghostly white instrument found itself back in its resting place along the sharp metal edge beneath the blackboard almost as quickly as it had floated into the air to scrawl the groups for all the fifteen and sixteen-year-olds to see. There was no tampering with Juliette's assignment, no sneaking in before class to switch around the tables. She'd waited until the clock struck the hour to wave her wand and reveal the day's lesson. Or part of it.

"Tables One and Two are in the back-- One by the cabinet, yes, there. Three and Four, in front of my desk." With her wand, she directed them left and right, militantly and again without pause for complaint. The last time she'd let them choose their own partners, a child had ended up bleeding all over the room. It was a sore point, and a telling one. Since then, they'd been assigned doubles or groups or teams, depending on the day's work, and she was careful to keep a clever mix of personalities and houses in each group. That did not stop Juliette from putting Callum in the front, where she could keep an eye, nor Erin at the table adjacent, where she might more easily question him from her desk. "And whoever left the gift of chewing gum under the table tops in the last session--" Her eyes lingered on the likes of Woolfolk and Sellaphix, "You are being reminded this once that we do not allow food or drink in the laboratory for what I'd hoped were painfully obvious reasons. The next time this happens, you had better have your own antidote on hand, too, or you'll find yourself with a scrub brush and a detention slip."

She made no further accusations, called out no names. She only had her suspicions, but Juliette was beginning to know the students on an individual basis. For that reason and many more, she had put Fauna Blake at a table with Pratt and Amherst.

"Today you will brew a Confusing & Befuddlement Draught, one cauldron per table. You have all studied the ingredients and written about them at length for homework-- let us hope." She looked down at the stack of papers in her non-wand hand, thumbing through them, unread. "I'll leave it to you to elect your leaders, on per group. At the end of the class, each leader will explain their group's progress and try to convince me of their work. I will know whether you have succeeded collectively, so do not think to throw the burden on these student's shoulders. The taste-testers... will be brought in at the end of the lesson. Demonstration promotes understanding of a potion's intended uses-- good and bad. It also holds you accountable. You can tell as much about a brew's shortcomings as you can its effectiveness in testing a draught. This is trial and error. Those groups who do well will be sufficiently rewarded. Those who do not will undoubtedly be revising last night's homework."

Juliette then returned to her desk to begin grading, leaving the students to set up their experiments.

Peyton glanced at the board trying to find his name amoungst the roster. After discovering he would be working in group two he frantically scanned the rest of the names in the group to make sure he'd survive to the end of the class. He didn't know the Slytherin girls all that well despite having been in the same classes with them for the past five years, it was just how house politics went. A smile touched his lips when he saw Sophie's name. Hopefully he'd get a chance to give her a few comforting words, he couldn't even begin to imagine what his friend was going through at the moment. It was hard enough dealing with losing a parent but having one murdered by a werewolf . . .

Peyton shook his head trying to clear the unpleasant thoughts and turned to another of the names in his group as he took his seat. A deep crimson blush hit his cheeks as he read over Razzy's name. It had been over a month since his little snogging session with the other teen but it still made him blush and squirm slightly. If it wasn't for Razzy he probably wouldn't have come to terms with who he was and who he fancied.

Scratching at the back of his neck he patiently waited for his group mates to get settled in and get their minds on the project at hand. Making a Confusing & Befuddlement Draught wasn't going to be easy work and he only hoped his group mates were up to the task.

Xavier waltzed into the Potions dungeon with a smile on his face. Although most would have wagered that his life had gone to ruins in the last few months - running away from school, being suspected of murdering another student, getting into constant rows with Bellatrix Dark and making his way to the top of Kit Branwell's hit list - Xavier was actually doing well. He had adopted a 'couldn't care less' kind of attitude. He was on the Quidditch team now and his marks were picking back up. As far as he was concerned everyone could go jump in the lake. He was going to live his life by his rules now not caring what anyone else thought. In two short years he'd be filthy rich and wouldn't need anyone here anyways.

Settling into his stool at his assigned group Xavier started to sort out all the supplies he'd need for the day before storing away his book bag as per usual class instructions. He glanced at the list of names for those he'd be working with. The only one that would possibly cause him any trouble would be Beatrix. He doubted the pink haired Ravenclaw would be all that happy with him. After all he did break her twin sister's heart (possibly twice)
