March 16th 2009,

Dear Mrs Aldridge,

I write to you on behalf of the Ministry for Magic to seek permission to query your records at Gringotts. We seek to recover a stolen artwork which we believe may have fallen into the hands of the families Gringotts have recently recovered debts from. As the painting was originally stolen, and reported such to the Ministry, Gringotts have no claim upon it in settling financial matters.

A sketch of the painting in question is enclosed with this letter with dimensions for your reference when checking your records.

If you find the painting has been recovered, please contact me immediately so I may arrange safe transit of the painting back to the Ministry archives.

Many thanks,

Johann Storm,
Department of International Magical Co-operation

Mr Johann Storm,

There are a lot of people in this department at Gringott’s Bank and I find it shocking that you had the audacity to select my name to place atop of your letter.

Despite this I have studied the sketch you provided and can assure you nothing like that has been processed in the bank’s records. I personally ensure everything is kept up to date.

In the future I strongly suggest contacting a different member of this department.

Regards,
C. Aldridge

Dear Mrs Aldridge,

Forgive my intrusion, but your name was passed to me personally to contact, on recommendation that you were the most efficient and suitable contact we have within Gringotts. You even mention in you response that you 'personally ensure everything is kept up to date.' My letter had not been to indicate otherwise, but to seek advice from exactly that sort of organised individual.

Thank you for checking the records, and I am discouraged that the curse breakers did not recover the painting in question - but we shall undoubtedly look again elsewhere. It would be most appreciated if you would retain the sketch for reference, should you recover the painting in the future.

Many thanks,

Johann Storm

Mr Storm,

Apparently my previous response confused you. That doesn’t surprise me as an employee of the ministry.

Are you certain that your own colleagues have not taken such article and hence failed to record it? I suggest you investigate that avenue before questioning the validity of my colleagues’ records.

Regards,
C. Aldridge

Dear Mrs Aldridge,

Your previous eloquent response did not, confuse me, as you put it, I assure you most certainly. The abrupt tone, defiant presentation and suggestion it was incredulous for a Ministry employee to query the contents of the Gringott catalogue was rather more my preoccupation. Since then, I have been reliably informed this is your usual business tone, so I pay no further heed to it.

As per your final letter on the 20th March, I did consult with records and archiving here at the Ministry, and encountered an even more terse response than your own. I thank you for the suggestion that the British Ministry are poor to archive and catalogue their finds and assets, but it was poorly received by the team who are employed to do so. It is apparent they take great pride in their work, much like yourself.

The matter of the blossom tree paintings is outstanding, so in the interests of Britain and its modest magical population, I ask that Gringotts remain vigilant for the painting, and the Ministry will do the same.

Many thanks,

Johann Storm
