You'll have to forgive me for needing to inquire through Anna on how best to reach you these days. I already feel like a horrible sister for not being in better contact with you, especially considering your recent personal struggles. But I figure we both have had a lot going on in our lives and to be able to connect whenever we do is often the best we can hope for. While I do, at times, find myself lamenting over the nature of our relationship as siblings, particularly in light of my failing health, that is actually not the purpose of this letter. I am writing to you in the hopes that you may be able to help me with Grace. This past week I received a letter from her school -- your former school -- regarding some behavioral problems they have been experiencing with her. I am somewhat baffled by this, especially considering that in the seven years she's been at the school, Melor and I have never had issues with her.I would love to make the trip to speak with her professors, but I've been advised that travel in my condition would not be the best course of action. Melor and Cadan, as you know, have always been quite supportive of Grace and her endeavors at the school and they could go if need be, but perhaps someone familiar with the environment and extraordinary circumstances might be better equipped for such a task.I know it would be a huge favor to ask you to make the time to do this, but I would greatly appreciate it.Hope to hear from you soon and be sure to let my niece and nephew know that I love and miss them.Your sister,Eugenia Skip to next post Re: [February/March] Family Ties (RE: Grace; C/O Jonas) Reply #1 on January 16, 2011, 02:39:48 AM "There's not something that you want to talk about, is there?"The private investigator paused, his attention locked on the pot he'd been attempting to scrub clean. "No," he replied, thinking of the letter that he'd left sitting on the desk in his office. There were days when he wondered why he ever bothered to open his mail. "Well, you didn't... Eugenia didn't ever say anything to you about one of her kids going to me old school, did she?"Anna glanced at him, carefully setting down the dish towel that she'd been using. "The school that you didn't think to mention to me until two months ago?" she inquired, her eyebrows rising. "Yes, Jon. We chat about it twice a week when I run down to Cornwall for tea. Do you mean Cadan?" she asked with a frown, her gaze shifting to him again. "He's been out of school for a good few years now, hasn't he?"It was a bit embarrassing to admit that it would have taken him much longer to recall which sister had produced which nephew, let alone match them to approximate graduation dates. "No, Grace," he replied nonchalantly, entirely focused on scrubbing one persistently nonexistent spot of dirt. "Although I reckon I might've misunderstood what she was asking. It's likely to be nothing. How's Gwen been doing in school?" he asked, forehead creasing with faux concern as he turned on the water. "Hasn't bitten anyone since we had that talk about being mistaken for a vampire, yeah?"His ex-wife gave him a look, but she picked up the dish towel again. Sometimes it was easier to change the subject.J. Hogwarts up in Scotland?Work has picked up a bit, but I imagine that I can take time and make arrangements. That is, assuming that we both have the same extraordinary circumstances in mind. Wasn't Grace off at some private gifted academy sitting her A-Levels? Did I miss the bit where there were other extraordinary circumstances beyond those regularly mentioned? Because I most certainly feel like these are details that would stand out clearly in my memory.Gwenna and Artie send their love. Anna does as well.J. I know you probably thought that the nature of your "specialness" was kept hidden from the rest of us by our dear parents, but letters from Scotland via owls could only be explained away for so long.I knew a lot more than you may have realized and this knowledge made it easy for me to accept the news that Grace is very much like you in that regard. She is gifted in many ways, but the story about her being away at a gifted academy was mostly to appease our neighbors and other family members who may not exactly understand the lifestyle of those like you.I think that you may have missed the subtle hints that would have clued you in to Grace's whereabouts all these years. You have been busy so that does not surprise me.I wouldn't feel too guilty about it though. Now you know and you have something to bond with Grace over. I think she might appreciate the knowledge that she's not all that different from the rest of her family members as she may have always thought.Thank you again for agreeing to do this, Jay. Please let me know what comes of it.All my best,Eugenia Skip to next post Re: [February/March] Family Ties (RE: Grace; C/O Jonas) Reply #3 on January 18, 2011, 10:38:26 PM J. Hope you're well. Think we might be bringing the kids down to Cornwall over the Easter holiday. I hope we can see you then.J.J. Your mother asked me if I might stop in the next time that work brings me up your way. I corresponded with Professor Levartian already, and she suggested that you might be allowed to meet in Hogsmeade over a weekend.I know that it is short notice, but perhaps if you can tear yourself away from studying for your A-Levels for an afternoon, we could meet this Saturday at 1500 in the Three Broomsticks?
