Re: [February 16] I hate Mondays [Niobe] Reply #15 on February 11, 2011, 11:44:44 AM Niobe wasn't put any more at ease when Maggie said that Dominik 'shook her' - Niobe suspected Maggie was playing it down. But then, Maggie really could handle herself. She'd walked away from a giant explosion and a hostage situation with Cinaed Tawse. Maggie was kind of a badass. A true match for Niobe's rogue's gallery of ex-con, ex-boyfriends...? Perhaps neither of them were, but they'd stood their ground so far.She wanted to apologize to Maggie, for loosing a very pretty-looking maniac on her front door. But another thought struck her and she squinted her eyes. Was it really that time...? Had it been ten years? The tiniest tug of a smile or scowl touched her nostrils."Dominik's deal with Falcon's is coming up for adjudication again this spring," she said with a sort of calm reserve. Wiedman's lawyers had managed to compromise some insane deal for the boy-Death Eater. They'd let him serve his time as a servant to society playing professional Quidditch. And the decision would be up for reveiw by the Wizengamot in a few months time.Goodness, Niobe. You're already very busy trying to incarcerate Tawse - do you really need another hobby? Then, she brought up something that seemed to come from out of the Quidditch stands (literally!) -- Dominik's deal with the Falmouth Falcons.Maggie blinked in confusion and annoyance. She wasn't sure what she'd expected, but small talk about Dominik and Quidditch wasn't it. Maggie knew better than to expect an apology out of Niobe, didn't even want one to be honest. But- oh.She meant... oh. Shaking her head, Mags jumped off the counter and sat down at the table, raising her eyebrows in disbelief. Her mouth twitched up."Uh-huh," she said slowly, hoping she'd caught her meaning. "So if his review is shite, he loses his Quidditch deal, basically? Or would he have to serve time in Azkaban?"Maggie wasn't sure of the details. What she did know was that Dominik had definitely not been a model citizen these past ten years, unless following Niobe around hoping to feed off her positive energy counted. Ha. She looked at her friend, a bit baffled, wondering if Niobe was really suggesting what she thought she was. Or if this was all good times, hot air, like threatening to 'kill the bastard' had been. A part of Maggie would love to see Dominik lose his Quidditch deal and have to face reality and own up to his behaviour. But she wasn't sure she wanted to get more involved in his life, in any fashion. Or somehow cause him to lose his Quidditch position and spend time behind bars. What she wanted was simple, in her opinion. Niobe would break up with Dominik. Dominik would finally leave her (and her friends alone). Niobe would stay single or find a nice, decent bloke to shack up with. Maggie would not stumble across piles of cigarette butts on her walk home. They'd be happy! It'd be one big fecking happy neighborhood! No Dominik. No drama. Maybe neither," not committing to all of the vindictive thoughts going through her head. It just didn't seem to occur to her to just cut ties and break up. She was wrathful and part of her needed to vent that energy before actually solving the problem proper. She picked at the edge of the table, absently, her ire seeming to have subsided. She knew she'd confront Dominik about Maggie, probably cut him off. But actually give up the whole deal they had? Seemed like leaving a match before the snitch was caught, in the middle of all the insane fun. "Let's go to Indian Restaurant tonight, down the road," she suggested. "I'm buying?" Perhaps that was all the apology prideful Niobe was willing to part with. She felt horrible for getting Maggie involved in all this, even though she never intended to. But this winter had been just insane for Maggie, unbelievable events. Really, having Dominik being a crazy pants was the last thing Maggie needed. It was just mad that two of Niobe's boyfriends had seen fit to accost her best friend. Words were powerful, she'd grant her that. They both understood them and used them in their profession. Maggie threw around angry words like it was her job, too. But she wasn't comfortable with this vagueness, this ambiguity about the Dominik situation. What mattered to Maggie right now was action. They could rant and rave and scheme all they wanted, and they could probably make things difficult for Dominik, which appealed to her vindictive side.Yet was this still a game to Niobe? Because it wasn't a game to Maggie. If Niobe didn't cut Dominik loose soon, she didn't see them remaining friends. Real friends, not just office buddies. Maggie liked to think that if she were in Niobe's shoes, the second Dominik pestered one of her friends like that, he'd be gone. That's how things worked, in her world. Friends defended each other. It was that simple.Despite her disappointment and hurt feelings, she'd let it go for now. Maggie didn't want to fight anymore today. "I won't argue with that," Maggie replied dryly after Niobe offered to buy dinner, rising from the table. "Alright, well, I'll catch up with you later. The morning is almost over and I've only fought with one person. If I don't step it up they'll think I'm going soft," she joked on her way out of the break room. Skip to next post
