"Spare the wand, spoil the child."

Dear Sasha,

The twelve members of this body mourn for the great hardships you've had to endure these few months.  There is nothing more tragic than the loss of one's family and our deepest regrets are offered to you and your remaining loved ones.  Also troubling to us is your controversial proximity to the events of 1 February in the Forbidden Forest.  We are understood that the Department of Magical Law Enforcement no longer considers you a suspect.  We suppose that congratulations are in order.  Nevertheless, the ordeal has no doubt been trying for you.

We have convened with Headmistress Analiza Snark and discussed your situation at length.  We have only the deepest concern for your well-being and held quorum well into the night.  It has taken us some amount of time to locate your sister, and to glean who is now responsible for your upbringing.  But now that everything is sorted, we hope you will forgive the delay.

As any young man might be, we hope that you will be pleased at what we have decided to do, and insist upon a leave of absence from Hogwarts for the rest of the spring term.  We, the Governors, wish fervently that your studies not unduly distract you from recovery, and what a long, arduous road it will certainly be.  In examining your marks since your first year, we feel confident that your progress at Hogwarts will not be irreparably damaged by your time off.  Certainly, we'll make arrangements for special consideration be made for time missed.   We encourage you to take time, if possible, to continue to prepare for your O.W.L.s, which you may sit on time with your year, or at a rescheduled time later in the summer.

We feel certain that this time away from the stresses of academia and time spent in the warm bosom of your remaining kin will mend your ills more swiftly.  So let it not be said that the priority of the Governors is not entirely with the health and happiness of our students.  Enjoy your time off and we expect to see you back, bouncing as ever come September.

Arrangements have been made for you to return to London tomorrow evening.

Our deepest condolences, congratulations and best wishes,

Persepolis Zephyr,
Chair
Hogwarts Board of Governors
