[Jan. 17] Whispers of a Sick Breath at my Hind [Lexus]

on November 12, 2010, 04:06:45 AM

She'd kept it in the back of her mind these last few busy weeks, the owl she'd sent to Lexus after the Full moon, whose message remained for a time unanswered, suspended in a suspiciously silent void.  She'd finally gotten word from the rogue werewolf just short of two weeks after they were originally scheduled to meet for their fourth monthly wolfsbane exchange.  What time she'd had to worry, she'd worried well and good.  For a fugitive who had no interest in embracing her more hairy form, it couldn't mean roses and sunshine -- that was for sure.  So when she saw Lexus's loopy L on an envelope addressed to her, Dazmond had been pert and alert, digging in for news and nibblets.

The text she found within was full of clandestine surface information and remarks with a clear 'I need to speak with you about something important' becoming the bottom line.  Feeling feline and protective, Dazmond set to coming up with a care package right there on the spot -- something was off.  She juggled meetings over the next few days, making space for the time allotted.  All that was left to do was to wait for the time of their rendez-vous, a few days off.

Wolfsbane and first aid supplies, galleons and chocolate and a flask of just-in-case loitered in her shoulder bag as Dazmond walked the city streets of muggle London, toward the flats that Lexus had told her about during their meeting in December.  She'd walked the few blocks from Diagon; though it was a terribly cold and rainy day, the walking hurriedly felt rather good to do.  Finding the appropriate door with its emblazoned number off Neal street in Covent garden after a never-ending string of fashion and shoe shops, past the tea house and everything (how Lexus could make money enough for this street seemed a bit suspicious in a delicious sort of way), Dazmond straightened herself out in preparation for anything at all, and put a firm knock toward the door.

How things had gotten so out of control lately Lexus would never know. She had fallen into a comfort zone of things being alright for a good three months. Living with Jonas in her life had made her believe that she could actually do normal again. She had never considered what it would have been like if he was gone. She had stepped up on her potion production to make sure she could still afford her flat and the lifestyle she had become accustomed to. It wasn't that hard, it was easy to buy the ingredients in bulk and there was a possibility that one of them had an addictive quality to it that kept her customers always coming back for more. Lexus often told herself it was just good stuff and she wasn't harming anyone by supplying what was in demand.

The letter from Dazmond had gone unanswered for longer than she had intended. She was touched that her friend seemed to have genuine concern about her missed wolfsbane potion. It hadn't been a pleasant full moon but at least she hadn't been running rampant through muggle London either. By the time she was going to respond to her black and red haired friend she had come across a file she had shoved in her box of belongings when Maggie was interviewing her. She had originally thought that all of the files had belonged to her - cases she had worked in muggle London while Jonas dealt with the heavy stuff - however buried amoungst them was one she couldn't let go of. With an owl sent out to her friend she insured her that she was okay and that they needed to speak as soon as was possible for the potions mistress.

When the knock finally came at her door she quickly opened it and ushered the smaller woman inside. It was the first time Dazmond had been in her flat and she could imagine the response. Thankfully the apartment had already been furnished when she started renting it and it actually cost alot less than one would think. Something about possible faulty wiring or something like that. Lexus had never had a problem and it made her look normal to her neighbours and not at all suspicious.

She brought her friend into the livingroom, "You want tea or something?" She asked after giving a warm welcome rubbing at the fading bruises around her wrists. Her shockingly blonde hair would have been new to the potions mistress along with the streak of silver she had pushed behind her ear, "I'm glad you were able to come Daz. There's something I really think you need to know."

The response to her knocking was so swift that Dazmond threw a paranoid glance over her shoulder, expecting a troupe of aurors at her back -- or perhaps another 'Aha!' moment with the Werewolf Capture Unit.

"Lexus...," Dazmond said instead, stepping in quickly and pressing the door closed behind her gently.  Her gaze faltered for a moment, her expression following with the uncertainty of the atmospheric tension; something wasn't right, but she couldn't imagine it had anything to do immediately with her.  For a second she expected to see a corpse on the couch or something, but the smell of the apartment alone was enough to counteract that theory -- if a theory it even was.  The mind went to strange places in the face of suspense, nothing sensible arose out of those sudden trepidations.

Though when her eyes lifted to find Lexus she saw the warmth of her smile, and Dazmond met it in kind as she could only do, wrapping the Werewolf in a sisterly hug that sung of protective callings.  She wasn't sure the full scope of the affinity she felt, but Dazmond did know that she held the belief of a certain personal responsibility to Lexus that surpassed the normal boundaries of client-supplier relations.  Perhaps the other Witch's fugitive status and uncertain position in society struck a nerve.  She felt like they were wolves of the same pack.  Pulling away, she touched a loose spiral of the woman's now shimmering hair very lightly, and for a moment her smile increased with genuine affection.

"Beautiful," she commented.  "Are you --"

But Lexus drilled straight to the point, and her sense of distractedness was enough to answer Dazmond's unended question.

"Okay....  What is it?" she ventured, feeling suddenly very awkward as she set her weight into the space she occupied, by the door, cradling her tote bag under her right arm above knee-high boots that were wet with rain.

Lexus sighed softly and returned the woman's hug. There was something so familiar and calming in such an embrace. Since coming to London Daz had been her one true friend and she was glad she had found her. The embrace reminded her of home of being with her friends and her sister. Oddly enough she didn't feel home sick from it. It was that connection that caused her to reach out to her friend and let her know about this.

She motioned for her to take a seat on one of the couches while she whisked upstairs for a brief moment. When she returned she was holding a manila folder and handed it to the potions mistress, "Remember the guy at my birthday party," If you could even call it that, she mused to herself, "The redhead Jonas? Well I don't know how much you got to talk to him but he's my boss - well used to be my boss. We had this huge stupid fight and I kinda walked out on him. Anyways he's a private investigator. Mostly dealing with muggles but recently he's been taking on a lot more wizarding cases."

She sat down on the armchair opposite her friend and leaned forward a bit tucking the rogue silver streak behind her ear again, "When I left I packed up a whole bunch of my stuff without even paying attention to it. I finally looked over everything and found that. I have no idea why or who hired him but it looks like Jonas has been keeping tabs on you for quite a while."

She sighed and offered her friend an apologetic smile, "I had no idea he was tracking you but I figured you needed to know."
