In his four year tenure with the Stormers, he helped lead the team to two league titles. Cuddyer has also been a member of the Canadian National Team all four years since going pro and has been an integral part of the team's success in international play.Cuddyer holds numerous Canadian League and Stormer franchise records. ...more on what he's known for and his playing style....Early LifeCuddyer grew up playing both Quidditch and Hockey and established early on that he preferred the positions of Keeper and Goaltender respectively. He was drawn to the similarities between the two roles in the constructs of the game.At BeauxbatonsCuddyer entered Beauxbatons in the fall of 1997 and tried out for his house team (Bellefeuille) as a first year, and though he did make the squad (some believe due in part to his mother's fame as a professional Quidditch player), he did not see much playing time until towards the end of his second year. In his third year, with the departure of many upperclassmen, he took over as the team's Keeper. He would go on to assume many Bellefeuille and school records pertaining to that position.Pro CareerPro Start / Rookie Year (2004)Following his completion of school at Beauxbatons, Cuddyer was not initially drafted (offered a contract) for play by any European teams. But since he had dual citizenship (French and Canadian), he was approached to play for the Canadian National Team in a series of friendly international matches serving as a tune up for the Quidditch World Cup. Cuddyer was recruited with the intent of being a back up Keeper, as the team was led by a dependable and popular veteran. Unfortunately, an injury required that Ian step up into the starting role, something that he was reluctant to do at first given his predecessor's far reaching shadow and the fact that he was a newcomer to the team (and seen by many as an outsider). It didn't take long for him to endear himself, however, and the Canadians had a successful run in both the tune up matches and the World Cup itself. Stonewall Stormers (2004 - 2008)As a direct result of his performance on the Canadian National Team (and also due to the vacancy left by the same injury), Ian was offered a four year contract by the Stonewall Stormers.Tutshill Tornados (2008 - March 2009)In early 2008 when it became clear that he and the Stormers were not going to reach an agreement for a contract extension, Cuddyer and his agent began to shop around. When his contract officially expired in August, he was free to sign with the Tutshill Tornados, who made it clear that they wanted to extend their tradition of winning.Montrose Magpies (March 2009 - Present)Incoming2008-2009 Season HIghlights-vs. Montrose - incoming-vs. Puddlemere - Cuddyer was blindsided by two expertly aimed blugers and literally knocked out of the match.International PlaySince 2004, Ian has consistently been a participant on the Canadian National Team.Personal LifeCuddyer is the only son of Dario Cuddyer, and Sophie Hanover. His father is a former professional hockey player (defense) and his mother is a former professional Quidditch player for the French National Team.He was born in Toronto, Ontario but eventually the Cuddyer family moved back to France to be close to the Hanover family. Ian's foray into Quidditch made for a third generation of individuals from his maternal family to play the sport. His grandfather, Antoine Hanover, and his aunt, Isolee Hanover, are also former players and are still heavily involved in the sport.According to Cuddyer, athletics were always ever present in the household. Even before the move back to France, he was exposed to a variety of Muggle sporting events, including baseball, American Football, soccer and swimming. But he clearly favored hockey and Quidditch."I always had an interest in playing them both," Cuddyer has stated in interviews. When asked about feeling pressured to play because of his parents, he said, "I idolized them and enjoyed learning from the best."In late 2007/early 2008, Cuddyer was linked romantically to Eleanor St. James, a young witch from impeccable pureblood roots.Career StatisticsincomingMilestones: Records, Awards, Etc.incomingMedia Tracker: News, Notes & QuotesNewsQuidditch Q&A: Ian Cuddyer by Maximus Bolide (October 4)Magpies Best Tornados by Niobe Thursby (October 10)NotesQuidditch's First Family?Quotes (Threads)Smile, You're on Candid Camera with Ellie St. ClaireFlying for First Years with Hogwarts students and Madame Hooch Skip to next post
