City & Country of Birth: Oxford, England
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood
House & Year: Slytherin, 5th
Wand: 9in, Phoenix feather, elder
Physical Description: Griselle's appearance on it's own it's particularly remarkable. She's pretty enough, but her face is forgettable. She's got a heart-shaped face, round blue eyes, and thinks her forehead is a bit wider than it should be. Her build is on the slim side of average, and her light blond hair is most often worn down.
When dressed down, Griselle does appear to be a few years younger, and that combined with features she's less than thrilled about leaves her inclined to experiment with makeup and unusual outfits to make herself stand out a bit more. Griselle is fond of Muggle fashions, and when not wearing her school uniforms typically adopts a rock & roll: leather, worn out jeans, and big butt-kicking boots.
Personality Description: Griselle will tell you that she's lived through some tough times. She will tell you that she hates her family, complain whenever she gets a chance, and go on and on about how she wishes things were different. None of that is true, though Griselle doesn't quite realize it. She actually loves it: getting attention and pity whenever she can, and she's got it deeply ingrained in her self-identity.
The most important person in Griselle's life is herself. She's very reluctant to do anything if she can't see how she stands to benefit, and she tends to act on her own random impulses instead of thinking through things logically. Yes, Griselle is self-centered and impulsive, but that's not always a bad thing. It's made her pragmatic, taught her how to trust her instincts, and it also means that she's never afraid to stand up for herself or speak her mind.
Though, sometimes it isn't so great to speak one's mind as often or freely as Griselle does. She has a reputation for being brutally honest and sometimes flat out rude. Griselle does not usually stop to think about the feelings of others before she opens her mouth, and if someone react badly to something she said, she usually thinks it's their own fault.
If you happen to catch her when she's not whining about something, an impulsive person like Griselle can be very fun to be around. She has a bad habit of putting the bare minimum into her studies, and this leaves some extra time for good, reckless fun (sometimes at the expense of others) and occasional rule breaking or "sticking it to the man."
History: Griselle's parents, Alexandrina and Lucas, were sweethearts during their school years, and, so far as anyone else knew, they were a good match from two well-to-do Pureblood families. However, they both happened to have more than a few secrets about their heritage: their blood was far from pure, and their families had both made a point of lying about it. Their desires to keep their secrets was one of the things that helped bring them together. They were married in the spring of 1985, and they had their first and only child in 1992.
The couple had every intention to raise their daughter in a proper blood-purist environment and keep up their own charade. From a young age Griselle was taught that those with pure blood were superior to others, and she was only allowed to play with children who were pureblood. Alexandrina' and Lucas's attitudes on the matter might seem hypocritical, but in their eyes it made perfect sense. They both held a lot of anger and hatred towards the Muggles who ruined their own bloodlines.
When Voldemort rose back to power, a friend of Alexandrina and Lucas convinced them to join the Death Eaters, which they did without hesitation. During their years with the Death Eaters, they did neglect their young child a bit. Griselle was often left with various relative while her parents were busy with more important Death Eater business. After Voldemort was defeated at the Battle of Hogwarts, Griselle's parents did manage to get out with their lives, but they were almost immediately arrested and sent to Azkaban. Griselle was left in the care of her aunt Georgina.
Needless to say, Griselle was quite shaken up by having her parents arrested, though her young mind had only a limited understanding of the situation. She was sure that her parents had done no wrong and that it was only a matter of time before everything would get sorted out and her parents would come home. Her aunt couldn't bring herself to tell Griselle the truth until two years later. Even then, she was in denial for a long time to come.
At the age of eleven, Griselle began school at Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin. At this point, she was still very much in denial about the fact that her parents had done some very terrible things a few years back, but a confrontation with a fellow student quickly made her realize that she had to come to terms with the truth.
That summer, she finally worked up the courag to ask her aunt some difficult questions about her family, and she didn't like the answers she got. Hearing about it all made Griselle feel angry and confused, and even though it has faded, it still hasn't really gone away.
Griselle still likes to moan about it to anyone who's willing to listen, but otherwise the past few years at Hogwarts have been pretty normal.
How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Griselle was a tough one for the Sorting Hat to figure out, and she still remembers how the hat took an embarrassingly long time to make up its mind. In the end, her self-centered nature and desire for attention were the deciding factors: a good fit for ambitious Slytherin.
Writing Sample: It must have been nearly half an hour by now, and Griselle was still staring at blank piece of parchment. No title, no words, no ideas, and she hadn't even bothered writing her name at the top of the page. At this point, all she had was pile of open books on developments in potion-making in the thirteenth century and a fast approaching deadline.
Griselle peeled her eyes off the blank parchment and started skimming over a page of one of her books. Nothing there seemed relevant. She was already tired of sitting in the same spot in the library, and she was itching to get up and go do something else for a bit. However, this essay had already been put off long enough, and she couldn't really afford to go anywhere or do anything until it was done.
Griselle straightened herself out and looked around a bit, hoping that giving her eyes a moment to look at something new might refresh her mind. She first looked out the library window and noticed that the sun was setting. Damn. She had already wasted more time than she thought.
No more messing around. Griselle was about to dive right into that essay, but she was distracted by the sight of a boy in her year. She waved to him, and he walked over to her.
"How's your essay going?" she asked.
"Oh, I finished yesterday," he answered. A look of concern came over his face as he saw her blank parchment.
"What'd you write it about?" she asked, hoping to get a little assistance.
"I'm not helping you again." He was clearly annoyed, and he began to take a small step away.
"I don't need you to help with the whole thing, I'm just a little stuck getting started. Please?" Griselle begged.
"That's what you always say. I'm not doing it." He took a few more steps away.
"Please?" Griselle asked one more time, but she was ignored. The boy waved goodby and left to get back to his own homework.
She sighed softly and went back to skimming her books. This would have to be done the hard way.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Griselle is a histrionic, snot-nosed punk kid who sometimes thinks she's the center of the universe and loathes her family. However, if you can get past that she's great fun to have around at a party or on an adventure.
