Clan MacFusty on October 14, 2010, 12:32:32 PM The MacFusty Clan of Scotland is one of the oldest wizarding families in the British isles, tracing their ancestry back to the Viking era. As a Scottish clan, they follow the traditional structure of such a group - that is, they often intermarry and are all decended from a common anceastor. They are one of the two major Scottish Wizard clans, along with the MacDonell Clan.NavigationHistory | Clan Leaders | MacFusty Castle | Harris Isle | South Uist | St Kilda | Barra | Mingulay IslandThe clan MacFusty trace their heritage back to the Viking era, and specifically to lady Ceana, a famous dragonslayer who, as the story goes, took up her husband's broken wand and killed the Hebridean Black that had killed him with it. While the reports of her beauty are likely greatly exaggerated, she did indeed take it upon herself to guard the residents of the isles where she lived from the dragons, and this duty she passed down to her descendants. The MacFusty clan has followed this duty for centuries. They live mostly on the Outer Hebrides, and over the centuries their focus has shifted; while at one time they protected the wizards and muggles from the beasts, muggle development and the clan's own overzealous 'protection' efforts have rendered the already-rare dragon species even rarer. They now protect the dragons themselves and safeguard them, helping the creatures breed and keeping muggles away from their habitats. The clan is pureblood and while not worried about blood purity, is staunchly traditional about its members. They mostly intermarry with the rest of the clan or with the MacDonells, but other pureblood members are not shunned. However, members rarely leave their duties as a MacFusty; there are exceptions, but the rule is: once a MacFusty, always a MacFusty. Despite being pureblood, they are kindly disposed to muggles and are a clan officially recognized by muggle Scotland; they went to war for (and sometimes with) the Scottish crown in centuries past, and see their primary relation towards muggles as protection. Due to this they're considered blood traitors by some of the more traditional pureblood families, despite having an impeccable pureblood line. They have an ancestral home in MacFusty castle on Lewis Isle. This castle is under the same enchantment as the castle of Hogwarts - on the outside, it appears as ruins. At this castle the patriarch of the MacFusty clan, Fitzwilliam MacFusty, holds official court over his clan - but due to the habits of the Hebridean Black, the clan has several sub-chiefs. Lady CeanaClan StrctureThe MacFusty clan is unusual in that instead of its splinter factions being composed of other 'adopted' famliies, the clan is one huge family unit spread out into several different locations. They have, more or less, one settlement per dragon; the family at the dragon's location takes care of that individual dragon. This leads to the clan being quite spread out, and the necessity for there to be a local leader. This is usually the eldest decendant of the main clan. Everyone who marries in takes the last name of the clan - no exceptions, and regardless of gender. Their groups are usually mall and are often an immediate family - a case in point is the Mingulay Island group. He leads the clan from Lewis Isle, in the halls of MacFusty Castle. He is a new member of the Wizengamot and is considered a decent leader by the rest of the clan, despite his occasionally hair-brained decisions. He has issues due to his father, Geralt, having been an extremely good leader, famous for (apparently) strangling a Welsh Green with his bare hands. Succeeding from that can leave a lad with a bit of a complex.Izabet MacFustyIzabet is a quiet and reserved woman who rules her group with an iron fist. Feared among her own clan for her rigid morals and tendency to issue physical punishment, she leads her family from their farm onHarris Isle, the closest to the clan castle, to the dismay of Fitzwilliam, as she likes to head over to scold and hit him.Euphemia MacFustyEuphemia is often the voice of reason and temperance in her clan, and this surprises absolutely no one. She's considered the least effective of the leaders due to this attitude, but she does alright, ruling in South Uist. Her group is happy and does just fine for themselves. She is barren, to her distress. the Majority of her family group is her siblings, siblings-in-law and their children. Lestileah MacFustyLestileah rules the most distant group, separated from their clan by hundreds of miles of ocean. However, the isle they reside on is the home to 3 dragons, who frequently fight over their territory; she, therefore, has the toughest and largest group, and is considered the best of the leaders. She, despite not having as 'pure' of a MacFusty blood in her as the others, is usually considered likely to be the next Chief should anything happen to Fitzwilliam. Ealasaid MacFustyConsidered the most 'fun' of the MacFusty clan, Ealasaid would rather get drunk and sing songs dirty enough to make all the men pass out than fight dragons, but her fun-loving, take-a-punch and keep on rollin' attitude makes her a good leader of her group, residing on the isle of Barra. She's much more integrated with the muggle world than the rest of his clan, having married a Muggle man, and claims she did this because she heard of a delightful little drink called absinthe. Angus MacFustyAngus rules the smallest and most 'remote' group of his clan, living on the uninhabited isle of Mingulay. As the only other male chief other than Fitzwilliam himself, he often walks the middle road. He's a loving man - he loves drink, namely - and governs his ramble of sons and relatives with love and the occasional smack. Mingulay Isle is the poorest of the MacFusty groups. Living on the uninhabited isle, they are entirely self-suffient; they have the most rural and disconnected life of their clan. They farm and raise livestock (much of which gets eaten by their resident dragon) and fish offshore. The island, abandoned by Muggles in 1912, is covered in ruins, which the family often makes use of. Exterior The island itself is one of the highest in the British Isles, standing at almost 1000 feet above sea level in areas. It's not a large island, however - only 2 square miles - and so it often battered and completely separated from the mainland by storms. This small size and the huge cliffs make it ideal for open-range farming. The ruins of the main muggle settlement still remain, and the MacFusty children consider them extremely entertaining to play in (and on). The family often scavenges stones and brickwork from the ruins. The exterior of the farm consists of their barn for the (valuable) horses and their well house; the rest of the farm is largely open-range, and there's a very, very good reason for that - when your livestock feeds a dragon as well as you, you don't want it stopping by the barn for a snack. Sea CliffsRuins (Muggle Village)Main BarnWell HouseInteriorsThe farm house appears to be a classic two-room house; however, once inside you find the upper level of the house is the kitchen and dining room, and the sleeping chamber (yes, singular) is underground, accessed via a stair way chipped down into the island's stone. The lower chamber is entire stone-walled, and again, this is due to the dragon; should the dragon turn on them and attack the house directly, the children and elderly can retreat into the lower chamber and be protected from the dragonfire should it torch the house. The lack of extravagance in its construction is largely due to this - the farm house has been burned to the ground quite a few times in its long history. The lower chamber is large enough to house the family as well as a decent amount of their livestock (if you pack them in tightly). This is so, in an attack, they can save as much of the stock as they can. Their dogs sleep indoors with them. Center roomTableHouse CeilingLivestockThe livestock kept by the family feed and clothe them; they use their leather, wool, milk, and meat for sustenance, tools and anything else they deem necessary. However, the horses are something of an exception; they keep and elderly Clydesdale mare (Bessie) who pulls the carts and a few choice mares and their stallion, Markus. The rest of the horses are left to roam free to act as bait for the dragon along with the cattle; the dragon of Mingulay has gotten her main food supply from this family for many centuries and the departure of muggles simply made it easier for the family to get these animals to her. Their sheep are their main livestock herd and their dogs, which they breed, have helped them herd them along with the horses for centuries.
