Wand: a pliable almond wand, 7 1/2 inches, with a unicorn tail core

Physical Description:  Xander stands just under five feet tall, and is very slight and fair skinned. His hair is shaggy and blonde, and a bit on the long side. Aside from hastily running a brush through it in the morning, his hair is pretty much left to its own devices. Xander doesn't really care about keeping it neat or in any particular style. He's constantly flicking it out of his eyes, but it doesn't do much good because it just falls right back into place. His face holds the potential to grow angular as he matures, but right now his still-childish round cheeks soften his features. Like most eleven year old boys, Xander is a casual dresser and prefers comfort over style. His wardrobe mostly consists of jeans and t-shirts.

Personality Description:  Xander is full of questions. Like most kids, he went through that phase where he asked 'why?' almost constantly - he just never quite managed to grow out of it. He's realized by this time, however, that after a while adults (and friends, and family) eventually get tired of being asked why. So, when he can, he prefers to find out the answers for himself, whether this involves research or experiments or climbing into and onto and under crazy places just to see what's there. Aside from 'why?' one of Xander's favorite questions to ask himself is 'I wonder what would happen if...?' It's a question that has spawned many adventures and games.

Almost as much as learning things, Xander likes finding creative ways to have fun. He has a good, active imagination and likes to make up new games and scenarios to act out with his friends. Anyone is welcome to join in, as far as he's concerned. Xander is friendly, and likes to make other people feel included. As long as they're nice, he's willing to let them into any game or activity he feels himself in charge of, regardless of what everyone else thinks.

Because, to be quite honest, for the most part Xander doesn't really care what other people think of him. He does his own thing and doesn't worry much whether people think he's odd or not. And if they dislike him for it, then what's the point in caring what they think anyway? 'Haters gonna hate', as the saying goes.

Xander is a good student. He is definitely not the type to cause disruptions in class - at least not on purpose. He does well in most of his classes, and really likes wandwork. It's more of a challenge for him than the other, more bookwork concentrated classes, but he loves the fact that he can wave a wand and speak a funny word and make things happen. He likes all his classes, but potions is probably his favorite. What's more fun than mixing up a collection of random (or, in this case, not so random) ingredients and seeing what happens? Transfiguration, on the other hand, is the one he finds most difficult. But he works hard and he's certain he'll get the hang of it someday.

History: Xander's parents split shortly after he was born, so he never really knew his father, or much about the man. His mum was never keen to talk about it, and to be honest Xander never felt compelled to look into it that much. He never had a lot of angst about his lack of a father - it's the way things have always been, and his uncles and grandfather filled any masculine rolemodel gaps.

For the first seven years of his life, Xander and his mother, Heather, lived with Heather's parents on their farm just outside of Swanwick, where the Perdues raise livestock. Xander really loved living there. He likes animals, and there was plenty of space for him to run around and play any kind of game his imagination could possibly come up with. It was a good life.

Shortly after his seventh birthday, however, his mother found work at a small art gallery in Derby, and they moved to an apartment in the city. Adjusting to the move was difficult for Xander. He still saw his grandparents often, but it wasn't the same as living with them. He also had to change schools and get used to a whole new set of night time noises. Eventually, however, he settled in. He still misses living in the country, but the city's not so bad.

When his eleventh birthday rolled around, Xander got a big surprise - his Hogwarts letter. At first he thought it was a joke. He was a smart kid, okay? He knew magic didn't exist, much as he wished otherwise. His mother, however again surprised him with even more information - Xander's father, the one Heather never liked to talk about, was a wizard. And, on top of that, it turned out Xander had a twin brother - Carter Morsely. Heather got back in touch with the boys' father, since he obviously knew more about the wizarding world than she did, and Xander spent a week with Carter and their father prior to school, who took them to Diagon Alley to buy their Hogwarts gear (in addition, Xander also purchased a pet rat, named Perry).

This was an even bigger adjustment than moving to the city had been, and Xander is still trying to work through it. But he likes having a brother. He's always wanted a sibling (and although his cousin Pippa - who turned out to be attending Hogwarts, too - was almost like a sister, it wasn't quite the same), and Carter's friendly and adventurous. They have a lot of fun together.

Once he arrived at Hogwarts, Xander was sorted into Ravenclaw and has spent the past five months settling in to life at the castle and exploring his new world.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: In his own words: "I have a lot of questions about the world and how stuff works and why stuff happens, and I want answers. Classes don't teach you everything, sometimes you have to go further than that if you really want to know something. So I read and I think and I do my own hands-on investigating. From what I can figure, that's what makes me a good Ravenclaw."

    Writing Sample: n/a

Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac and has influence over the hands, arms, shoulders, and lungs. Positive traits include quick wits, versatility, flexibility, fluency with words and ideas, an open mind, a love of learning, adaptability, agility, sharp perception, and cheerfulness; negative traits are duplicity, mood swings, flightiness, nervousness, fidgeting, lack of attention span, a tendency to be easily influenced, and undependability.

Ravenclaw Geminis are geniuses of communication. They debate ideas, write brilliant treatises, teach exciting classes, read large numbers of books on a regular basis, and study arcane languages. Because Mercury the planet is associated with the alchemical substance of quicksilver, the god Hermes (the messenger of the gods, and the conductor or dead souls to the Underworld), and the historical founder of alchemy, Hermes Trismagistus, many Ravenclaw Geminis also excel at the study of alchemy. These Ravenclaws are some of the best and most brilliant of their class, but they need to learn to finish the projects they start, and to differentiate between what is viable and what is best left as a "really great idea."
