Re: [January 17] Cranky and Amhatty [Matty] Reply #15 on November 06, 2010, 08:53:02 PM Matty gave her another lop sided grin and took a deep breath feeling that constricting sensation of anxiety in his chest, yet another emotion he wasn't all that familiar with. He didn't miss the way she had looked at him and he couldn't blame her for being shocked. Matty was one of those people that didn't do anything unless it was thoroughly planned out before hand. Things needed to be considered in every action he made (even if emotional consequences rarely factored in) Which was why his whole romance with Addie was causing him to stumble. There was nothing thought out when it came to her, for the first time in his teenage life he was acting on impulse and instinct, finally reacting to emotions many could have sworn he didn't have.He rubbed the back of his neck, a sure sign of nervousness. He lowered his eyes not truly comfortable with looking at Fauna while he spoke, "Well you see there's this girl." He paused for a moment wondering how she would react to just that sentence alone, "And she means a lot to me and I think," I think I'm falling for her, "Well yeah she means a lot to me and Valentine's day is coming up. I know it's practically a month away but I need to be prepared. I've never wanted to celebrate it before and well now I do I just don't know how."He finally raised his caramel eyes to meet his friend's, "I want to get her something special but I just don't know what. I've never really had to buy something like this before and I really don't want to be all cliche and get her chocolates or flowers. She's just so special that I want to get her something . . . well special." He swallowed hard hoping he hadn't made it too obvious who he was talking about. He had an idea of how bad it would look if she knew that he was dating the girl she had just gotten into a huge fight with. Besides, she had a boyfriend! He knew that. When she was able to get past the initial panic, surprise set in. Matty liked someone? Through all the years she'd known him, she'd never seen him with a crush, though perhaps it was because he hid it well, or because he was friendly to a lot of people so girls just couldn't tell when his feelings went deeper than that.Fauna had no idea who he was talking about, and she tried to resist running through the roster of seventh-years in her mind, instead focusing on his question. It was sweet, actually. He wanted to get his crush something meaningful."Well... it depends on what she's interested in and what she likes. Yeah, flowers and chocolates are kinda... cliche, but they're cliche because no one minds getting them," she smiled a little."But yeah, if it were me, I'd pay attention to the stuff she likes. What clubs she's in, what she talks about, what's important to her. Get her something that relates to that. Doesn't have to be fancy or expensive, but just... you know. Maybe you two like the same song or something. Or maybe there's a song that makes you think of her?"Fauna's mind automatically went to music because playing the piano was one of her favorite things, so she assumed a song would be romantic to most couples. Find something Addie was interested in and get her a present based on that. What did he know about Addie's interests? He knew she liked poetry and theatre, she liked that Salvidor Dali guy and something call Phantom of the Opera. But the biggest thing, the one thing everyone thought of when they thought of Addie was wrock and roll. Addie was as into music as Fauna was. The thought of a song being for the both of them was exactly what he needed. His features lit up and he suddenly put his hands on Fauna's shoulders barely containing his excitement, "Music of course! She loves music and one of her favourite bands is 3 Owl Standard. You know Margo used to go to school with their guitarist Creevey maybe I can write him a letter or something."He smiled at Fauna again, "Thanks Fauna. I know this isn't like me but this girl, she does things to me." He blushed and chuckled nervously, "Did that sound as bad to you as it did to me?" He chuckled again, "I dunno Fauna, I've never felt like this before. This must be how you feel when you're around Devlin." She no longer fretted over who he was talking about (or if he was talking about her), and just felt glad that her suggestion wasn't totally lame. "Well, of course she does," Fauna butt in. "Three Owl Standard rocks!"It was fun to see him so twitter-pated over someone. He actually blushed, chuckled, and looked shy about it, which amused her because he was normally so reserved. She shook her head and giggled when he asked if what he'd said sounded bad. It didn't; at least not this time. But when he assumed that was how she felt about Devlin, her smile faltered for an instant, reminded of what Figaro had told her about him. She had felt that way, back in December when they'd first started dating. Now, she didn't know. She kept telling herself that it was normal for initial infatuation to fade into something deeper, and that things weren't going to be perfect all the time, but it was hard the more she was finding out."Right," she smiled vaguely, then glanced away. She stood up, brought their plates to the sink where a house elf popped out at her and set to work immediately.Fauna turned, gave him a strained smile. "Anyway... thanks for talking to me about Addie," she commented, meaning the fight she and Addie had gone through. "I'm glad I was able to help with the song thing." She meant it; she was glad, though her voice didn't reflect it very well as she worried over her own relationship. Though to be honest even if he wasn't distracted by thoughts of a woman he was falling in love with it was likely Matty would have missed it. He stood up and nodded glad that he could help her out. He meant every word he had said. He was there for her whenever she needed him to be. From what he knew Fauna didn't have any brothers and he had always thought of himself as such, at least when it came to their friendship which was why he wasn't all that surprised when she chose Devlin. She obviously didn't feel the same way about him that he had once felt about her. It was best for both of them to go back to that tight friendship, brother/sister relationship. He wiped his mouth again and smiled placing a hand on her shoulder, "I'm glad I got the chance to talk to you. Feel better yeah?" He leaned in and kissed her temple, "I gotta go back to my homework. See you around." He gave her another smile before moving past her and out of the kitchen. While he was likely to go back up to the library and continue to work on his homework he was just as likely to go to the dorms and begin figuring out what he was going to do for a holiday that was just under a month away.
