Physical Description: Yoona has always taken pride in her appearance and figure. She inherited her mother’s smiling dark eyes and light skin, as well as her height. Standing at 5’5”, it’s no surprise that Yoona is known to wear tall heels and slip a couple of height-enhancing insoles in her walking shoes. Though short, Yoona has always prided herself in keeping a slim figure. One of her biggest fears is becoming overweight simply because she wouldn’t want people going around teasing her about looking like a plump gnome. Though her natural hair color is black, she tends to dye it often. Usually her hair is always some shade of brown. Natural colors look best, nothing that stands out too much.
Ever since she was young, Yoona has always had her own taste in what she likes to wear and when she likes to wear it. Before her Hogwarts days when she was a little Korean school girl, you could always spot some sort of embellishment or accessory on her uniform that clearly identified her. Now as an adult Yoona has three main categories for her clothes: business, everyday/lazy, and nightlife. Her business clothes are just how they are labeled - formal and professional, while her everyday and lazy clothes are casual and more meant for lazing around her house in. Yoona loves a good party and her nightlife clothes are meant specifically for those fun nights spent out at various clubs. Her outfits vary from chic to tomboyish looks. More often than not, her choice in clothes reflects the mood she is in that day.
Personality Description: Yoona has had a strong, stubborn personality ever since she was a child. Once she has an agenda in her head, she’ll go right about it and make sure it gets done just the way she wants it. Her self-confidence and self-motivation may be overwhelming for some, but Yoona has gotten used to the fact that not everybody can move at such a quick pace like her. She’s not a scary, intimidating person by any means. If she sees a colleague running behind, Yoona won’t think twice about putting down her own work to help the other catch-up. Yoona isn’t a perfectionist or a workaholic, she’s just determined. She knows what needs to be done and gets it done.
Yoona loves to have fun. She loves to smile, she loves to laugh, and she loves spending time with her friends. It isn’t uncommon to find her going out most nights. For such a small person, she has a vast amount of energy. She can easily change from work mode to party mode without needing time to relax. In fact, Yoona hates having downtime. She is one of those people that always has to be doing something and that always has to have something planned... otherwise, she gets lonely and bored. Thoughts that she’s been repressing for years start coming up again, and she still insists to herself she can’t face them, even as an adult. Keeping busy helps avoids having to think about those things.
Despite her generally perky personality, Yoona has always had a problem with her temper. She is extremely hot-headed and it doesn’t take much to set her off. Being a person who has endured acts of racism and nasty comments from purists, she gets fired up when these things happen, either to herself or to anyone else. Her friends have given her the nickname ‘Her Royal Highness, the Defender of All Things’. She is always taking the side of the underdogs and the misunderstood. Though she is repeatedly told she doesn’t have to, Yoona insists that someone has to speak for them. If not her, than who?
History: In the city of Incheon near the west coast of South Korea, a baby girl was born to the Yoo family on June 17th, 1982. The girl was given the name Yoona. Her parents, Jonghyun and Sunmi, were overjoyed to finally have a daughter after having two sons, Yoochun and Yoogeun. They believed that their family was now full and complete.
Yoona’s life as a young child was a relatively good one. Her parents owned a small clothing shop where the three kids would play pranks on the unsuspecting customers. Though she was the youngest and the only girl, Yoona never let those odds deter her when playing games against her older brothers. She was the naughty kid who cheated by taking shortcuts during long races, pretended to look for the others during hide & seek but just waited until they came to her, pretended to be sick so she could stay home from school and have the tv all to herself, and would cry in front of the grocery store owner so that he would take pity on her and give her free pat bing soo*.
However, the happy childhood Yoona knew would soon change. When Yoona was nine, Jonghyun and Sunmi had to close down their store due to financial problems and found themselves in debt. They sent their three children to London to live with Yeeun, Sunmi’s older sister, until they could work off part of their debt and get back on their feet. The move to London was difficult for Yoona. First off, she was very reluctant to leave her parents. Secondly, she knew very little English and the thought of not being able to communicate with other people scared her. Lastly, she had never met her Aunt Yeeun. How was she to know what kind of person she would be? But Yoona would quickly learn to adapt. After only a few months in London, she was skipping down the streets and having (more like attempting) conversations with the strangers she bumped into. Yeeun was impressed at how quickly her young niece was able to adapt to her new surroundings and pick up a new language. She then encouraged Zhoumi, her Chinese boyfriend, to teach Yoona Mandarin, which the young girl was delighted to learn.
When Yoona received her letter to Hogwarts two years later, the news of her being a witch was taken in many different ways by her family. Her two brothers began looking at her differently, as if she was an alien or had some incurable, very contagious disease. Not long after, Yoochun and Yoogeun moved back to Incheon to live with Jonghyun and Sunmi again. At that point, Yoona wanted nothing to do with being a witch. All she wanted was to go back to Korea and be with her family again, even though she knew things would be very different. However, her aunt stepped in and encouraged her to take pride what she was. Being a witch was a part of who she was and she should make the most of it. Maybe the rest of the family would change their minds after they saw her growth?
Taking her aunt’s words to heart, Yoona entered Hogwarts and was sorted into Gryffindor. She studied hard and made average marks while still managing to have a social life. Her best subject was Defense Against the Dark Arts, while her worst subject was Care of Magical Creatures. Despite the growing forces of the Dark Lord, Yoona continued her routine each day, keeping herself busy so she wouldn’t have to worry about all that. It was near the end of the sixth year that the Battle of Hogwarts took place. Though Yoona managed to remain safe and physically unharmed, she remained troubled by the ordeal. The deaths of all those people bothered her. People died all the time in wars and stuff, but the Battle of Hogwarts really disturbed her in that it happened somewhere where she had always felt safe. Her last year was spent with each day of her life scheduled with various activities, classes, and tasks. After the Battle, Yoona could absolutely not stand to be unoccupied. There was a lot of things going through her head that she didn’t want to face, so she suppressed them by keeping herself busy - just as she does presently.
After graduating Hogwarts, Yoona managed to grab a hold of an internship with the Ministry of Magic working in the Department of International Magic Cooperation. Her vibrant personality and strong work ethic eventually caught the notice of the Department Head and she was offered a secretary job. It wasn’t until about a year later that the fact she was fluent in three languages and conversational in Japanese got out and spread. Yoona was then appointed a translator, working to make communications between the the Orient and England easier.
As of this day, Yoona has had little contact with her parents and brothers in Korea. Her relationship with them continues to be strained. Her aunt finally tied the knot with Zhoumi, and Yoona is the proud cousin to a little girl, Arisa.
Describe your job duties and how you go about them: The majority of Yoona’s duties are as simple as translating letters from abroad. She also translates conversations with foreign ministers and important visitors. Sometimes her job requires her to travel with another member of the Ministry to serve as not only their translator, but their cultural guide, which is the part of the job Yoona enjoys the most.
Elaborate on your expertise in your field: Yoona has proven to be able to pick up languages quickly and with ease. It helps that she has a passion for people and their different cultures, as well as a passion for seeing different groups of people working together. Korean is her first language. She has been speaking English and Mandarin since she was nine and ten years old. Yoona was introduced to the idea of learning Japanese by a good friend at Hogwarts who had visited Japan. Yoona was fascinated by her friend’s stories that she just couldn’t resist diving right in. Though she is not fluent in Japanese yet, she can speak it well enough to hold a formal conversation.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: A strong, determined woman with passion, Yoona Yoo has no great expectations for her life besides dealing with it one day at a time. She keeps herself busy and surrounded by good company because she genuinely enjoys having fun, but also because she’s trying to repress thoughts and memories that continue to trouble her. One day she hopes that her family can accept her for who she is, but in the meantime, she’ll work hard to become a person they can be proud of. Her Royal Highness, the Defender of All Things, Miss Yoona Yoo, will walk on proudly (and with style).
