Kitty stood behind the screen on-stage. The cold night had slowly crept in. With a darkened, clear sky, she could hear the buzz of countless festival goers and pupils in the crowd, her knees knocking together a little nervously.
Pull yourself together, Kit! Twirling a lock of brown hair around her thin, slender index finger, her black painted lips twisted inwards before exhaling a long sigh of anxiety. She'd been practising for weeks; all the girls told her how amazing it would be, and she didn't want to let them down. Kitty's parents had also travelled down to Hogsmeade to support their youngest daughter - she couldn't believe her father's encouragement. Kitty wasn't surprised that Violet had refused to acknowledge her sister's talent, and in all honesty, couldn't blame her elder sibling. Kitty had been dreadful to Violet.
A terrifically loud bang of a bass drum resounded through the quiet air, signalling the beginning of Kitty Li's performance. Her shaking fingers immediately gripped the microphone with steely determination. As the banging became more rhythmic, the crowd erupted into a unified scream. Kitty closed her eyes. The fourth beat was her cue.
The stage was lit by an army of fierce magenta fireworks, and Kitty posed with both hands on her hips behind the scream, her petite silhouette illuminated by the blinding lights.
Diva it up, Kitty! The music began. The screen vanished and Kitty stood there, smiling at the screaming crowds. For that split second, the border that had separated her for so long from her classmates disappeared. She wasn't a stuck-up Queen Bee, and they weren't inferior. Kitty almost forgot who she was. It was time to perform. Parting her lips ti sing, the music kicked in and her backing dancers leaped onstage.

A sincere, honest and warm smile on her face, she couldn't believe her luck.
Dad would be so proud.
