((Er, they don't know what he looks like, right?))

Damn magical locks! Devlin was an expert at undoing old school muggle padlocks, thanks to years of breaking into his fathers liquor cabinet and his elder brothers lock boxes of girlie mags, but these magical padlocks were a pain. You couldn't just unlock them with a simple spell, oh no, you had to line up specific runes in a perfect alignment to undo the spell. And you couldn't just guess either, these were one of those locks that gave you three tries before locking you out indefinitely (Or at least until you called in a professional cursebreaker employed by the lock company). As he begin to carefully unravel the spell, he thought distantly to himself that, if it weren't for the very illegal actions he was undertaking, Professor Reid would probably be very proud of his rune knowledge.

Just as the last rune was clicking into place, Devlin was suddenly aware of the door creaking open and the presence of another person in the room. Licking his lips, he continued to play with the lock as he considered his options. It hadn't occurred to him, yet, that Auror's had gotten wind of his plans. Whoever was there was likely just an orderly, wondering who he was and what he was doing there. Perhaps he could just play it off with a charming smile and a silly excuse. It was a hospital after all, he could pretend to be delirious.

Seconds passed before Devlin dropped the lock and turned around to face his accuser. Noting that she was a woman, Devlin decided to go with confused new guy. "OH!... uh hey... I'm sorry... Is this the girls locker room?" He stuttered, turning a bit red "... Dammit, I wondered why the lock on my locker wasn't working!.." Recalling that every locker was clearly marked, he added quickly "... and that there was a girls name on it... I thought they were playing a joke on the new guy... heh heh...heh..." He coughed, unsure what to do next. As he spoke, he tried to slide the runespoor up his sleeve.

Finally seeing the boy face on, Zora scowled in a way that seemed like she was both disgusted and very satisfied with herself.  Her hunch had struck gold, but she was furious they'd nearly lost track of him. How had he gotten in? All the entrances had been covered and her spyglass had revealed no disguises, no Polyjuice... little blighter!

Moving quickly, she strode in, wand leveled straight out in front of her until the wand was in his face.

"Auror Corps," she hissed at him, "Hands up! And if you draw your wand, I'll freeze you up so fast I guarantee you've never been hit so hard with a spell in your life, understand me, little man?"

A triumphant grin spread across her face, "Or is it Jack Spade?"

Aurors? Why the hell were Aurors there? Who tipped them off and more importantly, why? His mind reeled with these questions as she advanced on him, her sharp tipped wand brandished like a rapier. Wincing, since it would appear that she was trying to take his eye out with the thing, Devlin instinctively stumbled backwards, slamming into the lockers. What did he do now?

"Auror Corps, Hands up! And if you draw your wand, I'll freeze you up so fast I guarantee you've never been hit so hard with a spell in your life, understand me, little man?"

Perhaps they had hired Aurors to patrol the area and she just happened to see him? He had neglected to check if the door was locked afterall. If he kept his head about him and played it cool, perhaps he could talk his way...

"Or is it Jack Spade?"

OhshitohshitohshitOHSHIT!

Devlin struggled to keep his face locked into a mask of bemused bewilderment when she said his code name. So she was there for him. Someone had tipped the aurors off, but who? Kitty would be implicating herself if she did it... He didn't want to think that Alex and Atticus would betray him like that... and TK certainly wouldn't put herself in such a position, would she? Oh hell, who was he kidding, she was more then crazy enough to try. Maybe she was testing him with this, to see if he could talk his way out of a tight situation. The fact that the auror asked rather then insisted he was Spade suggested that she didn't know for sure. If he could just keep the act up and avoid them finding the eggs in his sleeve...

"Who? I'm sorry, you have me mistaken for someone else..." He forced a chuckle, raising his hands slowly and putting them behind his head "...I don't even have my wand on me... I left it in my locker...Well, at least I thought it was my locker..." He gave her a sheepish smile.

Gathering an antiseptic, a potion for the pain, and a suture kit, she glanced over at the young woman spoke.  Perhaps she wasn’t all bad after all; she did recognize that this was certainly not St. Mungo’s standard operating procedure.  She managed a small, honest smile as she approached, setting the supplies on a table and settling on a stool.

“You’re welcome, Miss Li,” she said softly, taking out her wand and managing to apply a magical barrier to her hands.  At least her magic seemed to be behaving normally today, unlike the previous evening or the days prior.  It seemed whatever was wrong wasn’t consistent, another thing that confused her about the situation.

Holding out her hand for the young woman’s wrist, she added, “So, this looks like a rat bite.  Was this from a pet?”  She was attempting to make some conversation as she reached first for the container with the potion that would numb the area around the bite.  If she could keep up the small talk perhaps this would go quickly and not really be so terrible.

Zora loved it when their hands went up, and this little dodger even put them behind his head.  Could mean priors - she'd have to see how she held his spoon.  That was always a tell if you'd had to fight for to protect your meal in some gaol.  Seeing him full on, she could look him up and down.

His face was a wash of panic and surprise - at least she had that on him.  And despite the youthful, patchy facial hair, Spade looked younger than she'd initially thought.  He was short enough that their eyes were nearly level.  Hers were glaring out from under dark furrowed brows.

Spade smiled at her and she slapped him sharply on the cheek.  Nothing violent, but it might startle the bullshit out of his mouth.  "Shut up.  You don't work here and no one saw you came in.  That's right spooky, innit."

She took him by the collar and flipped him around to plant him front first against the wall.

"Randall.  That's who you're supposed to be.  Moira Randall?" she laughed at the back of his head after having read what locker he had been fiddling on.  "Gods, what an idiot. She's going to marry the Minister of Magic, or didn't you know that already, Spade?"

She tapped the side of his face with her wand.  "Am I going to find any surprises when I search you? Where've you got your wand?"

"Shut up.  You don't work here and no one saw you came in.  That's right spooky, innit."

When her hand struck him across the face, there was a breif moment where Devlin lost his mask of innocent confusion and a dark look passed over his eyes. Working his jaw for a second, trying to relieve himself of the pain radiating from the reddened skin, he took a deep mental breath and reminded himself that now was not the time to lose composure. The bitch would get hers for manhandling him like that, especially considering she had no solid proof he was even who she thought he was. Though he wasn't as well versed with wizarding laws as he was with muggle ones, he had to assume there was some sort of rule about the mistreatment of suspects. Maybe if he goaded her into crucioing him.

"Randall.  That's who you're supposed to be.  Moira Randall? Gods, what an idiot. She's going to marry the Minister of Magic, or didn't you know that already, Spade?"

"Is she? I had no idea..." He said offhandedly, almost with a marked disinterest, as he met her glare "I'm not really someone who follows the love lives of politicians... Is that why you are smacking me around? Because the minister is diddling some broad half his age?" He waited for an answer, but got the business end of a wand on one cheek and the cold metal of the lockers against the other instead.

"Am I going to find any surprises when I search you? Where've you got your wand?"

Oh she left herself wide open with that one. Should he or shouldn't he? He was in a precarious position at this point, considering an officer of the law had her wand digging into his cheek and his was in his pocket. But could he let a chance to piss her off like this go so easily? She already caught him red-handed and would likely find the runespoor when searching him, so what did he have to lose?

Letting out a sudden bark of laughter, he stared over his shoulder at her and choked out "HAHAHA Oh Merlin! I get it now... I get what this is..." He laughed so hard that tears came to his eyes ".... It all makes sense now. The auror uniform... the slapping... the wand euphemisms..." He shook with silent laughter "... You were hired to screw with me, right? For my birthday?... I can't believe the guys hired me a stripper. An old stripper at that..." He glanced at her and held his hands up again "Not that there is anything wrong with you being comfortable with your body at your age, but I am just not into... that..." He coughed slightly "... Just please don't take your clothes off...."

Zora flushed with anger as she took in the laughing little puke.  Barking mad little sodder thought she was a stripper!?  She thought for a moment about the rest of her team outside the hospital - well by now, likely in the hospital following up on her, and the lines she'd already crossed, the protocol she'd broken. Don't leave a mark, Roh, she cautioned herself with private acceptance of what she could do to teach the little criminal about his right to remain silent.  She shook her head, and her nostrils flared.

She jerked him back around to face her, and then brought her knee up hard into his groin and pinned him against the wall.

"Clever now?" she hissed in his ear, and dug her wand into his ribs.

A knee to the groin, how original. He thought, or at least, that is what Devlin would have thought if his brain was coherant enough to string more then two letters together, those two letters being A and H. AHHHHHH his brain... no, his entire body... screamed in agony instead as all the little Devlins down below suffered preconception head trauma.

Doubling over, he gasped for what little breath he could, which seemed to be avoiding his body in fear of being knocked out of it by the kick to the ribs that was sure to follow. Instead, she slammed him against the walls again. His eyes were watering again, though this time it wasn't in mirth. Merlin, no matter how many times you got kneed, kicked, punched or even just brushed in the groin region, you never got used to it.

"Clever now?"

He should have shut his mouth and kept it shut. He should have dropped the act and told her the truth. He should have done a lot of things but, shoulda-woulda-coulda, he was in far too deep now. Managing to catch his breath after a moment of laboring for air, Devlin couldn't stop himself from spitting back "... Sorry... But... I'm not... I'm not.. into S&M..."

What was the sound of digging your own grave? Apparently the sound of all the blood rushing from your head to your aching groin.

He got another slap, right on the mouth, for his next comment.  But so cheered she was by doubling him over that she couldn't be bothered by his continued adolescence.

She'd smack him in the face all day and all night if she wanted to.  It wasn't like a punch or a stunning spell.  A slap was demeaning, humiliating, and while it had no intent to injure, it smarted and tended to scramble the brains a bit each time.  Get some attention.  Maybe this little cur would learn  in some round-about way how to behave when one is being arrested for a giant felony.

While he dealt with his aching nethers, she started going over him, patting him down.  She caught his eye for a half second, pointedly, daring him to say something else.  She came to his wand, in his back pocket, and held it up for him to see with a cold smile.

Zora hid Spade's wand in her robes and kept at the search and as she was sliding down his arm she found a bundle in his jacket.  She paused, her career flashing before her eyes in a giant swirl of merriment and medals.  Senior Auror... Well, that is if he didn't drive her to heinous misuse of her badge and sully all of it.

She snatched at the little bundle and pushed him roughly towards the wall, "Keep your hands up," she ordered.  "Don't move unless you reckon you've not had enough of me."

She took a step back and had a look inside.  She held her gaze on the box again, holding her face blank.  But after a few seconds, Zora lifted her gaze to the scruffy teenage wizard she had cornered in the hospital locker room.

"Welcome to hell, Mr. Spade.   Hope your knuts are good enough for the boatman..."

Samule had been the Senior auror that had been assigned, and ehard those words no Senior Auror wanted to hear. Zora Roh had jumped the gun and went looking for Spade early. In a bit of a rush, he headed for her position, then searched, finding her just as she was kicking what he hoped for her sake was Spade right in the privates. Now he was angry " AUROR ROH" he yelled. " ENOUGH!" he added, still at volume. That would probably bring the rest of the observation team Spade running, but Samuel was certainly going to be giving this dressing-down personally. likly followed by one by Raynor. But first, one thing he had to attend to. " Don't go anywhere young man." Samuel said to the young man who apparently was the mysterious Jack Spade. " Now, Auror Roh, tell me exactly why I shouldn't report you to Raynor when we get back to Level Two?" Samuel said, his and piointing at Spade. he wasnlt taking any chances.

"Welcome to hell, Mr. Spade.   Hope your knuts are good enough for the boatman..."

Between his watering eyes, stinging cheeks and aching man-bits, Devlin was in no position to resist her patting him down. She obviously was positive of who he was and what he was doing there, and thanks to his penchant for being a smartass, nothing that happened now could put him in deeper shit. He didn't even try to hide the runespoor, just sighing at the triumphant look on her face after she found it. This day really couldn't get much worse.

"AUROR ROH! ENOUGH!"

Devlin never thought that he would be happy to see someone wearing crimson and a badge, and now was no exception. He started to get happy, hearing the man jump down her throat before she could do more damage, but that happiness was quickly squashed with one look at the auror's face. Lord, the similarities between the elder and younger Harcroft were eerie. It was as though they were replica's of each other. He wondered if Harcroft Senior was anything like his son. If he was, Devlin was in trouble. He was sure that Josh had spoke of him and their mutual distaste (IE Loathing) for each other, and had a feeling that this would throw a wrench into his plans. But, until Harcroft learned his name, perhaps Devlin could get some sympathy. Harcroft was a man, surely he could understand how much of a grievous misuse of power it was to kick an unarmed guy in the junk.

"Don't go anywhere young man."

"Don't worry... It's a bit hard to walk right now..." Devlin muttered, sinking to the floor where he could cradle his poor abused bits. "... I... I think she broke him... Crazy Bi---" He started and then quickly closed his mouth, realizing that with him in that position, her foot was much closer to his face. He didn't need a broken nose on top of everything else. Instead, he just watched as Harcroft shouted at her.

"Now, Auror Roh, tell me exactly why I shouldn't report you to Raynor when we get back to Level Two?"

"I can give you several for why you should..." Devlin chimed in, trying to look like the innocent victim, "... She didn't read my rights... She has no real proof I was even the guy she wanted before she begin to beat me... and worst of all, she stunted my future children. That has to be a crime..." He gave Samuel an imploring look.

Zora, startled, whirred around at the sudden voice right behind her.  It was Senior Auror Harcroft, one of her partners in the stake-out.  Technichally, he was in charge and in a flash she cataloged the litany of transgressions that could get her suspended.  And no one was more by the book then Harcroft who'd done everything required to earn his decorated rank.

She begrudgingly inclined her head in a less than regulation salute.  "Sir, he-"

But the little blighter on the floor apparently had the breath to whine like a petulant infant, as if he wasn't at the center of a giant investigation into this decade's most infamous murderer and saboteur.

"Oh do us a favor..." she sneered under her breath at Spade's pathetic self-flagulation.

"I'll give you three, Harcroft," she said, with a less than contrite glace down at Spade.  She turned around the small case to show the Auror.

"Three Runespoor eggs.  Warm.  It's what we're here for.  He's what we're here for.  Truss him, get him to the Ministry and then let's talk to Raynor about how I saved this operation.  Two minutes more waiting out in the cold and we'd not have been able to link him to the goods," she said.  She tried to keep her tone respectful, but it was damn hard considering her pride, and her private shame at letting this sneaky cuss get under her skin.

Sam frowned, the spoke. " That justifies your leaving your post, but that's quite frankly the least of your worries. UOEF*, leaving your partner, I don't really need to go on. " Then he repsonded to Spade. " Shut up." he snarled, distintly unhappy with Spade too. " Actually, you can say one thing. Your real name. " he finished, drawing his wand and pointing it at Spade.

*UOEF: Use Of Excessive Force. He's trying to get his point across without tipping Delvin off to Delvin being at least partially right.

Shit, this wasn't good. Linking him to the runespoor eggs meant that everyone would know he was Spade and all the work he had done over the last couple years would be for naught. His only hope was to plead ignorance at the crime he had just, unsuccessfully, committed. "Wait...wh...what? Runespoor... Shit... I... I had no idea!" He stuttered before getting a second wand shoved in his face.

"Shut up. Actually, you can say one thing. Your real name."

Devlin considered his options. With the pain in his groin still radiating a dull throb through out his body and two wands trained on him, running was not one of them. His best, and only, bet was to hope that he could convince them that he was just an innocent delivery boy tricked by the real Jack Spade. Luckily, Jack Spades anonymity worked his favor. They could only assume he was Spade because he was there, but he was reasonably positive that they had no other proof.

The only students who knew that Devlin was Spade were Atticus and Alex, and he trusted them both explicably. As for the school staff, Snark was the only one who had any solid proof of his connection, and she wouldn't say anything in fear of him implicating her for hiring him to sabotage SAWS. Everyone else, even his fellow gang members, had no clue that he was Jack Spade. So it didn't matter how much the female auror claimed she knew it as him or how much Harcrofts kid swore that Dev was no good, they had no solid evidence. This fact sent a wave of relief washing over him and he begin to think straight.

"Matthews... Devlin Matthews..." He put on a bewildered and even a bit frightened expression and held up his hands "... Look... I know we got off on the wrong foot, but this... this is not what you think. I mean... I had no idea what was in the box, I just was delivering it. He told me it was a surprise gift for Randall..." He made sure to emphasis 'he' in hopes they caught it and asked him who he was talking about.

Roh had been threatened with a UOEF (pronounced 'oaf') in the past and she clenched her jaw to keep from getting into it with Harcroft.  And while she put on a brave front, there was going to be nothing at all pretty about standing in front of Raynor while the Head of the Corps read Harcroft's report.  She'd slipped.  But that would have to wait.

Devlin Matthews? Zora looked down at him.  Never heard the name before in her life and for the tiniest moment she wondered if he might not be Spade, if somehow Spade and Kingstreet got wind of the operation and flipped it over.  That would be merry, wouldn't it.   But Matthews or Spade or whoever this kid was, he blustering into a series of denials that meant they'd get nothing done here.  He wasn't going to cop to anything unless he had four stone walls around him.  Here in the hospital the lights were bright and the receptionwitch smiled prettily and it was easy to believe everything was going to be just fine.

The Ministry dungeons had quite the opposite effect.  As did Veritaserum.

"He? You mean Spade?" Zora snorted, confident again that this lying little shit was exactly who she thought he was.  "Harcroft, let's take him in.  We've got what we need.  Drop him in the dungeons till we can call his mum to come vouch for his identity.  Your mum home from work yet?" she asked derisively.  She didn't expect a response.  He'd get questioned long before they were able to locate his guardian.  Paperwork could get so clogged up sometimes...

Despite Harcroft looking on, Zora made no attempt to handle Matthews gently when she took him by the shoulders and held his hands behind his back. She cast her favorite restraint and living ropes, snaked from her wand and wove themselves around the young wizards' wrists in a tight, thick weave.  Instead of tying off, the ends of the rope knitted into each other.

"Let's go."
