It hadn't been a particularly difficult choice to make, not with the way her dad had been acting.  When she had told her parents that she was contemplating going to Josh Harcroft's house for an afternoon, her father had been less than tolerant.  There had been quite a lot of screaming and arguing between she and her parents, and the night had ended with her quietly telling her mother where she was headed.  The afternoon she had been planning on spending at Josh's had escalated into what she imagined would be a few days.  She wasn't going home until the dust settled a bit.

While her mother subtly distracted her father with another accusatory comment, Adrienna had slipped into the sitting room and tossed a handful of Floo powder into the fireplace, whispering Harcroft Manor as she was swallowed by green flames.  She found herself in a nearly empty room upon her arrival.  There was a chair in the corner and a small table in another, but excluding these things, there was not much else.  There was a door to her left but there was not a door knob, which she thought was a bit odd.  Absently, she began to wonder if she was in the right place...  Examining the door, she found that there was no way out, and slightly worried, she seated herself in the chair in the corner, hoping that she hadn't wandered somewhere she shouldn't have.

Josh had been in the library they had at harcroft manor when he heard the alarm on the Floo go off. Someone new had Flooed in. That could be Adrienna!  Josh thought, putting down the book he had been reading on the Animagus transformation, and running to the room the Floo was in. He had also remembered he forgot to warn Adrienna that the Floo room was plain and sealed, in case someone thought to use the Floo to invade the manor. Taking a quick look through the peephole in the door to the room, Josh spotted Adrienna. Quickly, Josh muttered a spell to let the Floo alarm know it was a friend who had Flooed in. Yes, he was using magic. That spell was one of the only spells his father let him use out of school, and the Mnistry couldn't detect spells used in Harcroft manor. Then, he tapped his wand on the door in a secret pattern. The door unlocked, Josh put his wand away and opened the door. "Hi Adrienna. Sorry I forgot to warn you about the Floo Room. Is this a social visit, or did your father get unbearable?" Josh asked, wondering if his friend was all right. She looked somewhat stressed, but that could be due to the Floo Room.

She was just about to give up when the door swung open and Josh came through.  She smiled and stood up.

"Hi Adrienna. Sorry I forgot to warn you about the Floo Room."

"Oh, it's fine, though I was a bit worried for a few moments," she laughed.

"Is this a social visit, or did your father get unbearable?"

Adrienna considered it.  What had she come for?  Of course, her dad had been becoming too much to handle recently, but she did want to see Josh.  She settled in the middle, "It's a bit of both I suppose." 

"So part of the elaborate security?" she said gesturing to the doorknobless door.

Josh smiled slightly when Adrienna said she had got a bit worried.

“A bit of both. So your father has become unbearable." Josh sighed. "What happened?"Josh inquired, his expression worried.

"Yeah, Dad's never met you before, so he refused to put you on the list that gets a doorknob and a password to unlock the door."Josh said wryly. “Anyway, enough about Dad being paranoid enough about the manor’s security to rival Mad-Eye Moody*, want to head into the manor proper now?"Josh asked.

* I imagine Moody’s paranoia is still well known amongst the Wizarding public, that’s why the comparison.

"What happened?"

Adrienna really didn't want to tell Josh that it had been about her visiting him, but instead of lying, she just said something hat was irrelvant but true.

"Dad just gets tense around the holidays..."  she said, scratching her arm nervously.  "Because of everything that happened I guess.  I don't know."

Adrienna smiled a bit at Josh's analogyof his father to Mad-Eye Moody.  She did think that the security was excessive.  She was still unsure why the mansion was so tightly protected, but she didn't say anything.  She wasn't usually one to judge...

"Want to head into the manor proper now?"

Adrienna nodded and smiled, "Sure."

She stepped out of the way to allow Josh to take the lead.

Josh could tell Adrienna was leaving something out, but let the matter drop.

“Ok, follow me" Josh said, walking out of the room. There was a locked door not far down the passageway. "He smiled slightly. " As i said, Dad's paranoid" Josh said, pulling a keyring out of his pocket, and hunting briefly for the right key. " no, that one's for the gates...the main door... the door to the roof...the Apparition shed...AHA there's the one" Josh muttered, Adrienna probably could have heard, but Josh didn't care. Though she might find the apparition shed comment odd. Unlocking the door, he pushed it open, holding it for Adrienna to go through. “Adrienna, you'll need to come through before I release the door" Josh warned.
