Greyfriar Confirmed as Werewolf

by Niobe Thursby

LONDON -  After rampant rumors, the Daily Prophet can now confirm without question that Wizengamot Elder Knox Greyfriar was made a werewolf on October 14.  Greyfriar sustained the bite from an unknown werewolf near Hogsmeade, Scotland during a visit with some students.

"It hasn't been my intention to hide my condition," Greyfriar stated on November 26, "Rather, I needed time myself to acclimate to a new way of living.  I am a werewolf and still very much myself."

He went on to assure the public that he will continue to serve on the Wizengamot in full capacity and that his judgement would not be affected.

Joseph Collins, the Department of International Cooperations Ambassador to Canada, was among those at the Ministry to publically voice his support for Greyfriar.

"It's shame that such a horrible and damning affliction has fallen upon such a strong an influential man. I hope Mr. Greyfriar knows that there are still many of us here [at the Ministry] that have his support and will do what is needed to make this miserable time more comfortable for him. If anything, it's just more proof that we should be doing more to not only prevent future innocents being affecting by such curses as Lycanthropy but to help make life as normal as possible for those unfortunate souls."

His former students have also come out in support.

Fauna Blake (17): "Well, I feel sad, of course. I wish it hadn't happened. But... Mr. Greyfriar's a strong person and I know if anybody can get through it, he can. And there are people who will stand by him. It doesn't change who he is, you know? He's just a little, well... his eyebrows are a little bushier now, but there's nothing wrong with that."  Miss Blake was present during the October 14 attack, but sustained no injuries.

Another of his former students, and a member of the student group Students Against Werewolf Segregation, Madeline Pratt (15) told us, "I know that Mr. Greyfriar will use this incident to show the world that werewolves can be productive and conscientious members of society, not just 'dangerous creatures' to be feared. It is wizardkind's treatment of werewolves that makes them into the monsters that everyone thinks they should be, not the disease."

Despite an out-pouring of support, not everyone is comfortalbe with Greyfriar's dangerous condition.

Auror Ackerly Fox who is on this case to find the assaulting werewolf voiced his concerns about the complexity of the situation. "Now Greyfriar is among the most hated individuals of our society- and I for on cannot blame the people. Werewolves are incredibly dangerous creatures who should not be allowed to interact with the general public. They're not like us - and they never will be. It's safe to say after his case is solved, I will have no further contact with the man if I can help it. I have a family to think of - and fraternizing with the enemy isn't going to make their lives any safer."

The Headmistress of Hogwarts, Analiza Snark has been dealing with werewolf controversy since the beginning of her tenure, especially trying to keep the werewof support group at Hogwarts under control.

"While it is a shame that such a thing should have happened to such an upstanding member of our society, it is sadly not surprising. Just like when you play with fire, you get burned, when you buddy up to werewolves, you get bitten. I would hope that some of the more impressionable members of SAWS realize exactly what they are dealing with now and how much danger misplaced idealism can put you in."
