It was inevitable really. There was no way that Kelyn could actually expect to find some peace and quiet on the last day of classes. "Study period" doesn't mean anything to students when they know that there's nothing to study for in the upcoming weeks. And that didn't work well for the Hufflepuff at all.
He didn't want to do any partying, or be involved in the general chaos that occurred right before the winter break. Which meant that he was even seeking an escape from the increasingly loud common room of his own house. Sure, he was glad that it was time for a break, but Kelyn had other things on his mind. When he was in the middle of writing, there was really nothing he wanted to do but focus on finishing his composition.
Unfortunately, the music room had been occupied with a few students when Kelyn made his way in that direction. Sure, he knew them and all, but he never played any of his own music in front of people, and especially did not do any music writing while there were others around. So he wandered for a bit, trying to find an adequate place with the least amount of noise as possible. Kel found himself on the 6th floor, finally able to locate an empty classroom, and he slid in, shutting the door behind him. His first thought was to keep the lights off, so that people would just assume the class was still empty and not peek their heads in. But he realized that might give someone even more incentive to enter; couple who were looking for quiet places, for example. And if there was one things that would throw off his writing muse, it would be the sight of two hormone-driven teens, sucking face as they walked into the room. So the lights stayed on.
He moved to the back of the room and pulled a couple of desks together, spreading out the music sheets in front of him. There wasn't too much left to complete, he just couldn't quite get the ending to conclude well enough for his liking. It would be much better to be able to sit down at the piano while doing this, but Kelyn had to work with what he was given. Besides, today's inspiration was more on the lyrical aspect of the song, not the piano score.
Kelyn didn't have much experience in adding lyrics to any of his music, but this one just seemed to jump out at him. It was nice, being able to change the way he was working. If Kelyn could continue with more lyrical submissions, then he thought he could really do more with his music. But, it's not like he was going to be performing it in front of anyone anyway. Maybe he could sell it. That would be a nice way to bring in some extra cash.
A folded piece of paper was pulled from the back pocket of his jeans. Not the normal place for him to put anything he was working on, but Kelyn needed to make sure it was somewhere where no one could see it. He just figured the closer to his body it was, the better. The poem had been written in a brief moment of frustration, after sitting through another one of Delphi's "You should date this girl..." lectures. Just because his sister was ok with dating whomever didn't mean that Kelyn was ready for all that. The poem captured his frustration, his confusion, and his desires, all together. It was pretty personal for him. So, that meant that NO ONE would be reading it. EVER.
Kelyn closed his eyes and visualized the music, trying to match a good melody with the accompaniment he had already created. He was humming along, trying to hear where the notes might fall up or down. Singing wasn't something that Kelyn ever did in public, even though he wasn't bad at it. Not amazing of course, but he could hold his own. But the only time Kelyn could be caught singing out loud was when he was alone. Like now.
