Personality Description: Poor Percival Archibald Dervish is awkward.  As an extremely awkward youth, Percy is struggling to turn over a new leaf midway through his teenage years with a new image.  Regardless of how cool or good looking he may appear on the outside, he still feels very unsure of himself and is incredibly uncomfortable in many social situations-especially those involving bullying or dealing with members of the opposite sex.  Percy has to try and fight all his urges to stand out in class or appear anything less than "cool."  This is not easy and sometimes comes off as him being scatterbrained or preoccupied.  His nerves often make him quite clumsy.

Percy is rather likeable, being a gentle, compassionate soul.  While he may not know exactly how to best interact and converse with them, he will do his best to treat everyone he meets with respect and kindness.  Percy is willing to grow, adapt, and change-even if he is slow at the process.  He's always been the responsible one that can be counted on, as loyal and true as can be.  Percy has never had any overly close friends, but hopes that will change with a change in look and attitude.  In dealing with those his age seems to come the most trepidation, but Percy has always been more comfortable with adults-seeming a mannerly, obedient, helpful young man.  Percy considers himself to be rather lacking in expressing himself through speech or the arts, yet he is an astute pianist and seems able to instantaneously pick up and play almost anything on a piano.  Percy has collected keys and frog/toad memorabilia for years, stacking up two rather impressive collections which he now feels are better left hidden to attain popularity.  He also dabbles in displaying a great technical know how, possessing a great affinity for making things and fixing problems in the way something functions.

    History:
Growing up in the Dervish family wasn't always easy.  The confident, intelligent, headstrong Dervish family just don't quite seem to understand this nervous, gawky nerd that was terribly awkward on a broom.  Percival doesn't quite seem to fit in and while it's been evident from the start that he's inherited his family's trademark wit, his social skills have seemed greatly lacking.  Percy often preferred staying in his room alone and was remarkably quiet as a child, rarely speaking to anyone other than his imaginary friends and his mother, Nicolette.  Many hours of Percy's childhood were spent being tutored by his mother to learn the piano.
From the moment that Percival Archibald Dervish's full name was called out during rolecall, interacting with his peers had been difficult.  Though Percy had always excelled in his studies, maintaining flawless grades all the way through his homeschooling.  However, his tenure at Hogwart's has been someone different.  Though Percy has always scored O's or E's, his real focus has been on adapting to this new culture and to finally "fit in."
Percy has always sought his father Samuel's approval, though Sammy is rarely around.  Samuel's career as a broom salesman seems to keep him on the move.  There has been a large vacancy in strong, confident male role models in Percy's life.  Nicolette-Percy's mother has always doted upon her only son, nuturing and perhaps smothering him to death with love.  He certainly gets his kind, soft heart from his mother.
Percy-though the oldest among his cousins, has always had the most difficulty interacting with the others.  Perhaps some of this stems from him being an only child.
Percy hasn't made many close friends at Hogwart's and if things don't go better this year, he hopes to transfer to Hufflepuff for more of a fresh start.  He currently spends most of his time talking to his pet toad-Grammar.  Percy's only now trying to adapt to the nicknames he's attained from some of the more popular students such as "PerDer" and "Frog Man"-due to his initials being P.A.D. as well as him keeping a pet toad.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?:  Percy often tries to *dumb himself down* in Ravenclaw, not wanting to stand out from the crowd.  He doesn't want to be considered a nerd, yet his intellect is the sole reason he was placed into Ravenclaw, though the Sorting Hat seemed torn between Percy's intellect going to Ravenclaw and loyal heart being bound as a Hufflepuff.  In the end, the answer fell to the house of Percy's father Samuel-Ravenclaw.  Percy struggles to keep his head above water, but is much loved by his professors.

Writing Sample:Show your character in a scene that illustrates the best and worst aspects of their personality. Include action, dialog and thought.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Percival is trying to live the life of one of "the cool kids" that he'd always yearned to be.  Now that he's growing out of his physically awkward stage, he's trying to allow his social skills to follow suit, fill out, and grow!
