    The Original Application

Full Character Name: Sidney Iman Dervish
    Character Birthday & Age: February 15th,1984 / 24
City & Country of Birth: Hogsmeade, Scotland
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn?: Halfblood (Father is a Halfblood, Mother is a muggleborn)
    Alma Mater: Hogwarts, Hufflepuff
Job: "IT Guy" for the Magic Maintenance team at the MoM, except instead of Computers, he fixes Enchantments gone awry. Did a stint as an Unspeakable as well.

Wand: 13' Zebrawood shaft with Bocote handle, core is a Unicorn hair, Supple.

    Physical Description:
Sid is oft described as a typical 'nerd', 'geek' or 'Charming Casanova' (He made up that last one himself.) Unlike his brothers, and most of his family for that part, Sid is very tall and gangly, standing at 6'4''. His brothers joke that he is that tall because a. he is the illegitimate child of Hagrid they found left in the garbage or b. because they used to practice stretching potions on him. He usually scoffs at this but deep inside he is a bit insecure about his height. It just adds to his cocktail of insecurities.

Aside from his height, Sid has an endearing attractiveness about him. He is certainly not 'classically handsome', with a longish face, large nose, and thick brows. But his brows, as heavy as they are, lead to the character of his charming brown eyes and his largish nose gives him a friendly and comical air. His best feature, however, is his smile. He has a wide full mouth with two roles of brilliant white teeth that light up his face when he smiles, be it because of nerves or happiness.

Clothing wise, he tends to be very simple (and geeky) in his choices. Button up shirts with the sleeves rolled up, perhaps a tie, dark jeans and chuck taylors. He almost never wears robes since they get in his way. His longish curly blackbrown hair is usually combed into a semblance of neatness with an underlying chaos, accentuated by his usual five o'clock shadow.

    (Optional list)
    Build/Body type: Average to thin
    Estimated Height/Weight: 6'4"
    Hair color: Black
    Eye color: Brown
Skin color: Light Tan with an Olive undertone
First Impression: Charming in an undeniably geeky way.
Any odd/outstanding features?: He wears glasses for reading. Has a big smile.

    Personality Description:
Pretty much anyone who has met Sidney would describe him as a decent, albeit goofy, and big-hearted guy. He has a nice list of good qualities to his name: Kind, Optimistic, Creative, Intelligent etc. He is the kind of guy who puts his creativity and intelligence to work helping others and making the world a better place, and nothing makes him angrier then seeing others hurt. He has a good sense of humor and work ethic, as well as resilience to take on many pratfalls and other obstacles in his way, and he often lightens the mood with a joke. Though he likes people, he also likes his freedom and dislikes feeling tied down or in a rut. Because of his need for change, he loves learning new things and playing games.

But don't let this nice guy impression fool you, he is not without some major faults. With each good point, there is a bad point it brings. His empathy for other people and his urge to make others happy make him naïve and easily manipulated, since he tries to see the good in those who have none. Also, his emotional honesty makes him highly sensitive to criticism and since he dislikes violence, he tends to bottle up negative feelings of anger and sadness until they rupture and explode. His optimism and free-spirit may be refreshing, but paired with his tendency to make everything a fun joke, he ends up being childish and irresponsible. Though he works hard at his job, his ambition is lacking and he gives off the feel of a slacker who just wants to have fun.

    History:
The Dervish family is a Flying family. In the Dervish house, Floo is a four letter word, Apparation is for sissies and Portkeys are mysteries of mythic proportion. As a child, the patriarch Samir Dervish dreamed of being a famous broom racer, a dream instilled in him by his father Wahid (who fixed brooms, among other things, at Dervish and Banges). But Samir was too big to compete in professional racing and tried a stint at Quidditch instead. He spent a couple years after Hogwarts with the Montrose Magpies as a backup Beater. It was during a game in Italy that he met Carla De Luca, an Italian/French muggleborn witch that was a big quidditch and racing fan, much like himself. She worked as a waitress at her families restaurant that the team visited while in Italy for a game.

Somewhat of a playboy, Samir tried to trick her into believing that he was one of the starting beaters in hopes that she would fall for him. She was too sharp, and knew too much about the team, to believe him, but she still found herself falling for him regardless. She herself had the same dream of being a racer, a dream that was crushed by her domineering father, and understood why he lied. After revealing that she knew he was lying but liked him anyways, Samir decided he had met his soul-mate and promised to never lie to her again. They quickly planned to elope that evening after the game.

The next day, one of the beaters was too hung over to play and Samir got his chance. Taking his place, he played hard and valiantly, helping the Magpies win and was already being considered to take the place of the absent beater. However, his luck turned south that evening when he announced it to Carla. His attraction to her, and how close the pair seemed to be, was evident to her father. He was not just a normal restaurant owner but also part of a mafia family and didn't take well to this upstart trying to make moves on his Carla. That night, Samir was jumped and beaten so badly that he almost didn't survive. If it wasn't for his teammates coming by at the last minute, he would have died. Though he healed and survived, he did suffer an injury that made it impossible for him to play quidditch ever again, cutting his professional quidditch career short.

But Samir wasn't the type to give up on something he wanted that easily. Even though his quidditch career was stolen from him, his beloved Carla wasn't going to be. Using the fact that her parents were muggleborns who didn't know the ways of the magical world, Sam managed to send her an owl telling her to sneak out and apparate to the docks. There, he met with her and the two took off in the night to Hogsmeade where, since it was a hidden wizarding city, they could settle down in peace without worrying about her parents finding them. After eloping, they settled down in the quaint community and for a while Samir worked at the family store, Dervish and Banges, alongside his father. Shortly, however, Sam begin to learn broomcrafting and had just started making his own brooms when Carla announced she was pregnant with their first child. While having a family would effectively ruin any chance she had at racing, Carla was still excited when her first son, Samuel, came into the world.

Over the next several years, both the Dervish family and the popularity of Samir's brooms would grow. Only 2 years after Sam came the second son, Donald. At the same time, Samir broke off from Dervish and Banges and opened a small broom shop called “Whirling Dervish Broom Supply”, offering his brooms at 'Prices so ridiculous that Boggarts fear the name Dervish”. Samirs gift of gab helped grow their business and seven years later, when Carla announced she was pregnant for a third time in 1983, he had started supplying brooms to other stores all over the country, with hopes to soon expand to magic carpets. Because of the nature of his job, he wasn't there when his third, and final, son was born and wouldn't be for most of his young life.

Sidney made his way into the world on the day after Valentines Day in 1984 in his families small farm in the Scottish countryside near Hogsmeade. His mother swore that he was named after a distant paternal uncle, but his brothers always told him that Sidney was more of a girls name and she named him that because she had wanted a girl for her third child. This apparently was the case since Carla always seemed to treat Sid with more sensitivity and concern then his brothers. While Sam and Donnie were always out playing sports or pranks, Sid was helping his mother clean the house and store, learning how to cook French and Italian food or reading. About the only thing he did outside was attend quidditch games and Broom races with his mother, though he himself never had the athletic skill or competitive streak to do more then observe.

Sid was always a gawky boy and his height, shyness, affection for cleanliness and the fact that his mother babied him, only made it worse. His brothers, either out of jealousy, the need to prove themselves or just general boyish fun, tortured Sid for most of his life. Sam was usually the ringleader, while Donnie was the enabler. Sam would beat him up, tell him lies about him being an adopted orphan and trick him out of his money. His shyster ways would follow him to Hogwarts where he would try to sell phony brain elixirs to Harry Potter himself. Sam going to Hogwarts was a blessing for Sid, since he and Donnie got along well enough when their elder brother wasn't there to cause trouble. Of course Donnie still helped Sam tease him, but would secretly patch up Sid later, a skill he would use later in life when he would become a healer. Donnie even taught Sid how to fight, something that would be important in a couple years.

When Sid was 11 and started school, he was terrified. Not just because there was so much tension and fear in the wizarding world, with the deaths at the Triwizard Tournament and the resurgence of the Death Eaters, but because for a good part of his life, his brothers had been talking about the horrors of the school. How they were beaten daily, tortured with unforgivables, forced to sample failed potions and all sorts of other horrors. Poor Sid was so scared to go to Hogwarts that he almost managed to convince his mother to let him take a year off. His father, in the end, surprisingly took Sid's side and told the boys to knock it off. He convinced Sid to give the school a try.

Sid started school in 1995 and quickly discovered that it wasn't nearly as scary as his brothers said it was. Even though his intelligence and love of learning had him going straight to Ravenclaw, his loyal and honest nature, paired with his unwillingness to share a house with his elder brothers, landed him in Hufflepuff. Though Sam and Donnie teased him about it, he couldn't have been happier to be in the Badger house. During this time, Sid began to come out of his shell and gain some confidence. The shy momma's boy discovered that he had a sense of humor and even begin to crush on an older housemate.

In 1997, Sam Sr. came home and announced that the family was going out of the country for a while. Sid wouldn't know why for years, being still to young to really understand what was going on with the second war. All he knew is that he was missing his 3rd year and his last chance to tell the girl he liked that he loved her. He fell into a depression fueled by teenage angst and Sam couldn't help but tease him about this new development. Sid broke down and for the first time in his life, stuck up for himself. Even though Sam was older by 10 years, Sid was taller. Using the moves Donnie had taught him years before, he managed to keep his own. Even though the older and stronger Sammie won in the end, he had a new respect for Sid and stopped beating him up. He even teased him less, though didn't stop completely.

When the war ended, the Dervishs returned home and Sid would return to school. It was a hard time and the school was still rebuilding itself after the final battle, but for Sid it was the best time of his life. He had friends, good grades and in his final year, a girlfriend. Her name was Trina Quinn and she was a year older then him and had graduated 2 years before (Due to him missing a year). She was a beautiful musician who was, at the time, struggling to make ends meet. They knew of each other back in school, but Sid was too shy to admit his attraction to her. Every Hogsmeade weekend, he would spend his whole day watching her small time concerts. Before long she noticed him and approached him. The two struck up a friendship and she found herself attracted to his zany humor and endearing geekiness. The two begin dating shortly after the new year and she was the one that encouraged him to use his talents and become an unspeakable. When Sid graduated in 2003, he was looking forward to a great new life of freedom and success. He immediately applied and was accepted as an Unspeakable and looked forward to working with the most mysterious and dangerous magic in the universe.

After about a year and a half, he discovered that being an Unspeakable wasn't for him. It wasn't lack of ability, but the nature of the job that bothered him. He wanted to help people and it seemed to him that the other Unspeakables were more concerned with furthering their own agendas, no matter how many people it hurt. He struggled to stay, unwilling to go home and admit defeat to his father and brothers. He planned on asking Trina to marry him and wanted to have a steady job, so he did his best to suck it up and continue on. It didn't work for long.

When Analiza Snark, a woman he listed as one of the worst out of them all, became the Head in 2006, Sid finally put in his resignation. He was about to go home with his tail between his legs when he heard that a position had opened on the Magical Maintenance team. Sure it wasn't as glamorous or exciting as being an unspeakable, but there he could help people AND shine, since breaking and casting enchantments was always his forte. Unfortunately, Trina didn't like his new job as much as he did and when he quit the Unspeakables, she broke it off with him. She claimed that she needed a man who could take care of himself instead of relying on her, especially since she was having enough trouble getting her own career off the ground. She also felt he was wasting his talent and being wishy-washy, which she didn't appreciate after she worked so hard to build his confidence enough to apply for the job in the first place. Thus his first love was over just days before he planned to propose. Though he hates to admit it, he still loves her. He has all her albums and wears the ring he got for her around his neck.

Despite his heartbreak, or perhaps because of it, he threw himself into his new job. He proved to be so good that he has routinely been offered the toughest jobs, despite being the least experienced member of the team. It is rumored that he might be promoted to head of the Maintenance, though he prefers not to concern himself about it. If he could only find his soul-mate, Sid thinks he could be actually content with his life.

What is your job description? How do you go about your job?
How did you get your current job? How does your past and abilities justify your current position?:

Aside from flying, the Dervish name has been attached to fixing things for years. The last several generations of the Dervish clan have run stores that fix everything from broken brooms to defunct sneakoscopes. Sid has been trained to fix things since he was quite young, so he is very adept with both his hands and his wand when it comes to fixing broken magical tools and defective enchantments.

His job is just that. He is a fixer. Think the IT guy for the Ministry of Magic. When there is a storm brewing in your office or a poltergeist caught in coffee machine, he is the man to call. He is mocked a lot because he is technically a janitor, but he has to know a lot of magic for his job. Enchantment, Runes, Charms, Transfiguration etc etc are all things he has to be virtually a master of (He isn't a master of any of them, but he is certainly quite good at them all).

Sid got his job after he dropped out of the Unspeakables, having decided that he didn't like their tactics or ethics. He wanted to help others, and the fact that he could assist those who work in other fields of the ministry as a MM worker called to him. It helps that he gets to meet people from all professions and befriend them.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Sid is a laid back and somewhat goofy guy with no major aspirations in life except to enjoy himself. He enjoys his job as a Magical Maintenance guy because it lets him mingle and help all sorts of people. Unfortunately, his innocence about women and the intentions of others, mingled with his access to restricted areas in the Ministry, could be his and even his governments, downfall.

    The Dervish Family

    Samir "Sam" Dervish
Sam is an athletic, outgoing and often arrogant 56 year old half-blood broom maker and salesman. He owns the “Whirling Dervish and Son’s Racing Brooms”, a small company that makes racing brooms. He was once a semi-pro racer who ruined his career by racing during a storm and getting hit by lightening. He still walks with a pronounced limp. Sid has a strained relationship with him since Sid was always more of a mommas boy and Samir was very aware of this fact. He expects his sons to be successful where he wasn’t and Sid’s inability to get a ‘real job’ upsets him. He is very tough on Sid and never seems satisfied with anything he does.
Carlita "Carla" Dervish nee De Luca
Carla, as she prefers to be called, is an energetic and outspoken 54 year old muggleborn witch who runs the front end of Dervish and Banges. She is the 4th child out of 11 brothers and sisters from a huge Italian/French family. Her parents are both chefs and run a restaurant in northern Italy, where she was working when she met Samir. They were very religious and were against her marrying a wizard, hoping witchcraft was something she would grow out of. Instead, she ran off and eloped with Samir. She adores Sidney and babies him quite a bit and in turn, he idolizes her and has learned many things from her, such as cooking.
    Samir "Sammy" Dervish II
Sammy is a 33 year old half-blood Ravenclaw alumni who, like his father, is athletic, outgoing and blessed with the gift of gab. As the first born and the one with the biggest gift of gab, he works alongside his father in the family broom business. He and Sid don't really get along, but do now more so then they did as kids. Sammie used to torture Sid and tease him relentlessly, giving him many of the confidence issues he has today. After a teenaged Sid managed to fight him off, Sammie gave him a little more respect (but only a little). He has a surprisingly sweet wife with a son that is too much like his brother for his comfort.
    Nicolette "Nicki" Dervish nee Erling
Nicki is a 32 year old muggleborn witch who works as a seamstress for Madame Malkins and a Hufflepuff Alumni. She is an undeniably feminine and gentle woman who always seems to be smiling, a stark contrast to her sarcastic and almost cruel-humored husband. While her gentle temperament earned her a friendship with Carla and Sidney, it enables her husband and coddles her already awkward son. Sid worries quite frequently that Sammie is going to end up hurting her like he used to do to him if she doesn't learn to fight back.
    Percivel "Percy" Dervish
Sammy and Nicki's awkward and shy 15 year old son, Percy, is a 5th year Ravenclaw desperate to fit in. He is like Sidney is so many ways that Sammie has joked that perhaps Percy is Sid's kid and that while he would have to kill Sid, it would explain a lot. Both are geeky, awkward with girls and have girly names bestowed by their doting mothers. The difference is in their fathers. Sammy is much more involved in making Percy more 'manly' then Samir was with Sidney. He buys the boy the coolest clothes and tries to teach him how to be tough, but it has yet to work. It has, however, made it a bit harder for Sid and Percy to interact since Sammy doesn't want Percy to get infected with Sid's perpetual nerdiness.
    Donovan "Donny" Dervish
Donny is an intelligent and cool headed 31 year old Healer for St. Mungoes and a Ravenclaw alumni. Whereas Sammy was the bully, Donny was the brains and the enabler. He liked being on the winning side and therefore would join forces with Sammy to torture Sid as kids. However, he was nicer to Sid then Sammy was, provided Sammy wasn't there, and taught him how to protect himself, which Sid used against Sammy years later. Just like his brother marrying an enabler to go with his bullish nature, Donny married a bully to go with his enabling behavior, something that hasn't sat well with his mother or Sid.
    Contessa "Tess" Dervish nee Rigliani
Contessa is an ambitious and controlling 31 year old prosecuting lawyer for the DoMLE and a Slytherin Alumni. She met Donny at Hogwarts and took over bossing him around when Sammy graduated. The two married and conceived right after graduation. Surprisingly, despite both of their busy schedules, the two have the most children. Tess is an outright bitch who loves to belittle others and because of this, Sid, Carla and Nicki all dislike her. Sammy loves her, since she is like a female version of him, and the two often gang up on Sid at family get togethers.
    Antony "Tone" Dervish
Donny and Tess' eldest son, Tone is a 13 year old Slytherin who is much like his father in terms of quiet and calculating, but ambitious and sarcastic like his mother. He has the most flying/quidditch talent and is treated like a prince by both Sammy and Donny since it looks like he will be the closest one to fulfilling his families quidditch/broom racing dreams. This has given him a bit of a chip on his shoulder, which makes it hard for him and Sid to relate. Because of this, the two are civil to each other but not really 'friends'.
    Izabelle "Izzy" Dervish
The elder of Donny and Tess' two youngest, Izzy was born late in the year, so she is a 12 year old Slytherin first year. She is her daddie's little princess and emulates her mother, so needless to say she is pretty spoilt and bratty. However, she can be quite charming and sweet when she wants to, and usually does with uncle Sid because she knows he has a soft spot for his only niece and she can get good stuff out of him if she does.
    Ignatius "Iggy" Dervish
The youngest child of Donny and Tess, Iggy is 9 months younger then his elder sister and they both started at Hogwarts at the same time. He is a hufflepuff first year that loves animals and nature, which sets him apart from his Slytherin/Ravenclaw family members. He and Sid get along quite well, despite the fact that Sid is an indoorsy type and Iggy is not. Iggy's talent on the broom is still undeveloped, so it remains to be seen if has potential to be a racer or quidditch player, but there is a chance that he will give his elder brother a run for his money in a couple years.
    Kirk Dervish
Kirk is Sid's purebred Old English Bulldog. He is a little over 4 years old (The picture is of him around 1) and is named after none other than James Tiberius Kirk of Star Trek fame. He sleeps most of the day but enjoys watching Sid play video games, go for 'walks' on his skateboard (which he rides almost naturally) and eating Sid's cooking. Kirk is a good natured dog and a faithful friend who loves about everyone and wouldn't hurt a fly unless it was trying to hurt his master. Sid spoils him rotten like he does most small, young things. (Read Neices and nephews, future children)

    Not Pictured

    Wahid Dervish (Paternal Grandfather)
Wahid is Samir's father and the current proprietor of Dervish and Banges, alongside his friend Herman Bange (with his daughter-in-law Carla at the front). He is the 3rd generation to run the store, since his grandfather Farid immigrated from Iran to Hogsmeade in order to start up a store with a former school mate, Ichabod Bange. Every Dervish since has been born in a large, multi-roomed farm house in the Scottish countryside near Hogsmeade. Wahid was the only child of his father Sanjar and his iranian pureblood bride, Malakeh, who his father brought over from Iran. Wahid went against the more traditionalist leanings of his father and married a muggleborn English witch named Gwendolyn Cooper and had 4 children, the eldest being Samir. After his wifes death, Wahid would join the Order of the Phoenix and help supply their efforts. He has many scars from the war and likes to launch into long stories about their origins until he puts himself to sleep. Sid loves him and learned many things from him.

    Gwendolyn Cooper (Paternal Grandmother)
Gwen came from a rather boring family, with a mail man as a father and a nurse as a mother. She was a middle child and often felt insignificant, which was all changed when she learned she was a witch. She met and later fell in love with Wahid when they were put in Gryffindor together. Like her mother, Gwen went into a medical career and was working as a medi-witch when Voldemorts first war happened. Unwilling to leave the wounded in order to save her own life, she was killed by the Death-eaters. It was stories of her bravery that would later inspire Donny to become a healer. Sid never met her but feels he would like her if he did.

    Samir's Siblings(Paternal Aunt and Uncles)
Samir is the eldest of 4 siblings, 2 boys and a girl. His brothers names are Sanjay and Sahid. Sanjay lives in the US, where he set up his own Dervish and Banges-like shop in Salem's Peak. He is married and has 2 children. Sahid wanted to find out more about his roots, so he moved back to the Middle East and teaches Transfiguration at Beit Gaddol. He is not married and has no children. Padma married a Bulgarian wizard that is high up in the eastern Ministry of Magic and works as a diplomat. She has a daughter.

    Enrico De Luca(Maternal Grandfather)
A robust and loquacious old man who is quite healthy considering his age and the massive amount of Italian food he eats. He owns a popular restaurant in northern Italy that specializes in both French and Italian cuisine. He is the head chef and all of the workers are either his children or grandchildren. He is a staunch Roman Catholic who thinks that Carla's abilities are of the Devil, and prays regularly for her soul. He still loves her, however, and allows her and her children to come visit as often as they want provided they don't "do the devils work' in his presence. Despite not always getting along with him, Sid learned a good deal of cooking from Enrico, much to Samirs chagrin (Samir and Enrico still do not get along).

    Helene Dufour (Maternal Grandmother)
A french chef who traveled to Italy to learn their cuisine, and ended up staying after meeting Enrico and getting knocked up. She is quiet and rather timid, which is why her husband is the head chef and she is just the sous chef (Despite the fact she had formal training and he didn't). She isn't as religious as he is, having converted to Catholicism only at his behest, but she shares the discomfort he has at Carla's abilities. In the end, it was her gentle, passive aggressive nagging that got Enrico to agree to let Carla attend Beaubaton, mostly because Helene loved Carla and didn't want her to get hurt because she couldn't control her powers. Like her husband, she made amends with Carla and accepted her and her children, and like Enrico, she insists that magic not be used in her presence. Sid also gets along well with her, though he thinks she puts up with too much of Enrico's domineering habits.

    Carla's Siblings(Maternal Aunt and Uncles)
Carla is the 4th child of 11 children, 7 boys and 4 girls (One of which is Carla). Her brothers are Enzo, Giraldo, Pietro, Marcello, Sergio and Angelo. Her sisters are Mariabella, Fillipa and Roseta. Between them, they have 29 children. (For the sake of my sanity, I will not list each ones achievements/life)

    Additional Notes on Sid

    • He is allergic to strong smells (Such as powerful soaps and perfumes) and bee stings, as well as some mild plant and animal allergies.
    • Loves muggle video games, Kung-fu/horror movies, Sci-fi TV and Rock music. He wants to move to muggle London for the sole purpose of being able to see/play/hear them.
    • Despite feeling nervous around them, he is pretty good with children. Probably because he is a big child himself. He dotes on his brother Sam's kids even though he and Sam don't often get along.
    • He isn't big on fashion or having name brands with one exception: His Chucks. He loves Chuck Taylors and has quite a few pairs.
    • Even though his parents are both wizards, his mother is a muggleborn and his father is a halfblood (pure father, muggle mother) so he grew up having the best of both worlds. Thanks to his fathers skill with transfiguration, the family was able to have electricity in which to run muggle appliances even in Hogsmeade. This was hidden from the neighbors though, even though they didn't have any illegally enchanted muggle appliances.
    • Despite growing up in the Scottish countryside, Sid isn't a fan of being outdoors. When he was in Hogwarts, he much preferred exploring the castle then the grounds. The one exception is when he goes to watch Quidditch or Broom races.
    • He is fluent in French and Italian, thanks to his mother, though he rarely uses this skill since he feels that guys who flaunt this ability are douches.
    • He is an excellent cook who knows quite a bit of gourmet Italian and French cuisine, as well as Scottish home cooking and a little Persian cuisine. This helped him greatly in Potions class.
    • He is phobic of anything that flies and stings, such as bees and wasps, since he is highly allergic. He also dislikes flies simply because they sound like bees and indicate something dirty nearby.
    • He is unsure why but he is borderline OCD about cleanliness, which clashes with his otherwise laid back attitude. His brothers always teased him about it, but he hated being dirty or smelly. Though he may look a bit frumpled and unkempt, if you look closely, you will see that his clothes and body are always clean.
    • Even though he is too clumsy and nonathletic to play, he enjoys watching quidditch and sites his favorite team as the Montrose Magpies.
    • Like everyone in his family, Sid prefers broom travel to anything else. He hates Flooing and apparating, and has never traveled by portkey. He will only use them as backups if he can't fly. Thanks to his fathers connections, he always has a nice broom which he keeps in Pristine condition. It is one of his few vanities.
    • When he was dating Trina, he tried to learn how to play guitar and sing, but soon realized that he was tone deaf. He learned a little guitar, which he toys around with now and then, but really only does it for fun. He likes Karaoke, but sucks at it.
    • Avoids liquor and wine, but will drink a few beers now and then. He tends to get a bit crazy when drunk, so he avoids it.
    • He hates smoke and smoking and won't do it or be around those who do (at least when they are doing it.) One of his few requirements for a girlfriend, aside from honesty and a sense of humor, is that she doesn't smoke.
    • He loves animals but is mildly allergic to cats, so he has a bulldog named Kirk, after Captain Kirk of course.
    • Sid loves Coffee and readily admits that he is hopelessly addicted to it.
    • Whether it is due to his coffee addiction, or is left over from childhood insomnia, Sid is a night owl who only sleeps a few hours a night.
    • Sidney's nickname, Sid, is both a shortened version of his first name and the initials of his entire name: Sidney Iman Dervish.

    Sid's Wand

13' Bocote (handle) and Zebrawood (shaft) with a Unicorn Hair. Supple

    WOOD: Bocote & Zebrawood

Bocote wood draws off the element of earth and sun. Seeks a creative companion, one of intelligence and imagination. Used in the power of persuasion, inspiration, concentration, and the power of the mind. This is a neutral wood, indifferent to the use of white or dark magic. Exemplary for Legilimency or Occlumency. Excellent for Summoning magic, Herb magic, and Potions.

Zebrawood is a neutral wood which draws from the element of earth. Can be used for healing and repelling spells. Seeks an intelligent companion. Excellent for cleansing magic.

    CORE: Unicorn Hair

The unicorn is a creature of mystery and beauty. Gentle yet powerful, ancient yet pure, a strand of its hair is a wise choice for one who wishes to cast healing and protection spells. It has long been thought that unicorns protected the forest creatures, nurturing and overseeing plants, flowers, and trees. This core would make an excellent companion to woods that draw from the element of earth.

    Ollivander writes:
    • Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.

Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing.

    PLIABILITY/DETAILS: Supple

A Supple wand is best for someone who is kind and protective. It does well with protective and defensive magic.
