    Wand:
    http://www.alivans.com/custom/cart/edits.asp?p=97496
Chance's wand of choice is crafted out of bocote and ebony, which reflects his primary focus of protecting others with healing, defensive magic, and counter curses.  The additional property offered by the bocote in aiding love charms is merely a bonus.  Though Chance is by no means an avid student of wizardry, he does believe to err on the side of caution.  He wears a thick, leather wristband which connects to a thin series of straps which hold his wand always by his side.  The segmented hilt is made of pure ebony, which leads up to the dark brown bocote-a mere 3 inches in the entirety of the 13 inch wand.  Chance was greatly drawn to this wand, because of its unusual length and unique look.  Little did he know how its properties would appeal to him so greatly.

Physical Description:   He has thick, black hair inherited from his British father-Thomas.  Chance's hairstyle typically upholds the cool, unkempt look.  Chance's eyes are almost an unnaturally rich shade of dark green, the only visible physical trait passed down from his Irish mother-Theresa.  Luckily for Chance, he doesn't burn easily in the sun and has a decent skin tone not typically of those with significant Irish heritage.  Chance is frustrated at not being able to grow sufficient facial hair, which makes him feel like a babyface.

He prefers an edgy, rocker look which consists mostly of worn looking t-shirts covered in wings or crosses,  stylishly worn jeans, leather wristbands, necklaces with keys and various trinkets, etc.

    (Optional list)
Build/Body type: Chance is a slender young man, with a toned physique.
    Estimated Height/Weight: 5'9", 171 lbs.
    Hair color: Black.
    Eye color: Dark green.
    Skin color: White.
First Impression: Nice guy with rockstar style.
Any odd/outstanding features?: The green of Chance's eyes seems somewhat irregular set amongst his features.

Personality Description:  Chance is quite the underachiever.  Though only a halfblood, he possesses great potential for magic as his mother Theresa before him.  Chance has inherited his mother's natural aptitude for the arcane, but he has very little passion toward his studies and is considered quite a slacker.  Chance barely manages to remain an average "C" student, though he is capable of far greater things than even he would believe.  Chance has likely forgotten more that he has learned than many Hogwart's graduates have ever learned.  If he could be motivated to succeed, the possibilities seem endless.  Can anyone light a fire under this guy and show him what he's missing out on?

Though Chance would also be considered a nice guy, or even "the boy next door", he has a problem with aggressive or condescending authority.  Chance is a gentle soul, who wishes for everyone to coexist in a happy, laid back atmosphere together, but will rebel or even fight back when pushed too hard.  However, Chance is quite reasonable and if spoken to kindly is quite willing to accommodate others' wishes.

Comfort zones mean the world to Chance.  He can be quite a performer, perhaps even a charmer at times.  Even though Chance is rather laid back, he can be a fierce protector and possess a fiery temper as is often said about the Irish.  Ironically, against the stereotype: Chance hates alcohol and isn't too fond of those who use it to excess.

Chance feels he has finally settled into "himself" and as such has grown far more confident in the past two years at Hogwart's.  Gryffindor has been a good fit for him, as he's made many friends.  He has only begun to date, with very little success because of being so picky and selective about the types of girls he's interested in.  At this point, Chance is far more interested in lighthearted romances and true blue friendships.  Regardless of his high standards, Chance has a soft heart and tries his best to never hurt anyone's feelings.

History:  Thomas and Theresa Ryker are certainly proof to the old adage "opposites attract."  Thom is one of the most laid back, happy go lucky British Muggles around.  Theresa is a driven, fiery Irish Gryffindor alumni, who excelled  at nearly everything she tried her hand at.  Thom was quite content in his life as a cabbie and never really searched for anything further, until the day he meet Theresa.  Suddenly he found himself trying to woo a woman, whereas he'd never really put that much time or effort into courtship.  Thom found himself so intrigued by this woman that was everything he was not, that he could not stop pursuing her until they wed.  Of course, this didn't all happen overnight.  Thomas had been commissioned to pick Theresa up at the London Airport when she was on attending the wedding of her best friend from Hogwart's.  Though Thom flirted and showed a great deal of whimsy and wit, Theresa was not yet won.  Thomas knew this woman was one in a lifetime and had to go to such extremes as making emergency runs for Theresa's friends before the wedding took place.  This led the couple to go on a few dates during the mere week that Theresa was in England.  Theresa did not believe in long distance relationships though, and felt she would never see Thomas again after the week was over.  Thom took quite a "chance" and made a move to Ireland, where he founded his own taxi service and proved his commitment to Theresa.  After a year, the couple were engaged for a month, and then married.  This "chance" that Thomas took on love is where the pair got the inspiration for their first and only son's name.

Chance loves his parents very much and he's lived a very clean, moral life that they'd be proud of.  He's always had a strong moral compass, which has kept his reputation in good standing.  Of course...he is a very social young man and has been in trouble all through his schooling for talking, being too loud, and even the occasional harmless prank.  Thomas often finds himself too amused by Chance's behavior to give substantial reproof, except when it's absolutely necessary.  Theresa has always been harder on Chance, since their personalities are so different.  Thomas knows that at the age Chance is, he's listening well to reason and pulling away from lectures.

Upon discovering his powers, Chance began to withdraw from his mother and his classic clean cut look, defining himself more as an individual.  The young man saw himself as unique and wished for others to see that as well.  Finally being different didn't bother him as it had in his younger days.  Moving from the "oldies" music of his parents into rock, alternative, and metal...Chance was really coming into his own.

However...Hogwart's was a place of rules and regimens which were not always easy to abide for Chance.  The young man's good heart was often obscured by his lack of drive toward his schoolwork, attendance, and following the rules he'd deemed "silly."  Will he continue what most would consider a descent into mediocrity or angst or would he return to his roots and be true to his heart?

How Do You Fit Into Your House?:  Chance never wants to hurt anyone or do anything inherently "wrong", but he also doesn't want someone lording their whims over him.  After all, Chance considers himself a responsible guy who doesn't deserve to be berated over every little thing.  Chance seems to be at a crossroads between the "goody good" kids that he's always been friends with and the very rebellious individuals who may prove to be dangerous in the years to come.

    Writing Sample:
A substitute teacher often brought out the worst in students everywhere and Hogwart's was no exception.  This particular substitute was not particularly well versed in the subject matter and it showed quite clearly.  A few troublemakers, mostly from the Slytherin house had been "tugging at the string" so to speak.  The poor Professor Thimbleweed had been attempting to show the students how to wrap a hostile projectile with a series of vines, but had misspoken and misaimed her own spell which resulted in her becoming transformed into a human pile of string.  Currently, she was being spun off of her spool and howling at the top of her aged...string lungs.

Thimbleweed: "WaaAaAaaAah!  Oh my!  Oh dear!  Someone HELLLLLLLLP MEEEEE!"

The class laughed for the most part, but Chance Ryker was not amused by the torment at this petrified, little old lady's expense.  He hoisted his wand to the sky and spoke with a firm spite in his barely noticeable Irish accent that dared someone to challenge him stepping in.

    Chance: "Impedimenta!"

Professor Thimbleweed ceased her spinning and toppled across a desk, then quickly collected herself...bundling her strings back together.  She stood up and pointed her wand with a wiggly arm directly at Chance's nose.

Thimbleweed: "Impudent little ruffian!  How dare you?"

Staring at Thimbleweed in complete disbelief, Chance's upper lip curled in a bit of disgust.

Thimbleweed: "I may not be your regular professor, but I deserve your respect and casting spells on a superior is clearly a violation of Hogwart's, as well as good common sense!   Vagrant hoodlum!"

Chance: "Yer ruddy off yer bird, Thimblewart!  While yer all busy screamin' yer ruddy lungs out, I'm savin' yer stringy hide!"

Thimbleweed gasped as the class chortled, mostly in a hushed fashion.  It would be at this point that Chance would find his body flung across the room and pinned to the wall.  This misunderstanding would not be looked well upon by the disciplinary committee at all.  It wouldn't be the first time that Chance Ryker had been disciplined at Hogwart's, but it was certainly the most dire offense.  Assaulting a professor was a serious offense...Luckily, enough witnesses of good repute had come forth and spoken up on Chance's behalf that he got off on a warning...but there was always next time.  Unfortunately with the way luck ran in the realm of magic, Chance would likely be finding himself on the wrong side of a misunderstanding in the near future.  However, he was a bit aggravated and needed to blow off some steam.  Chance blew off his last class of the day and went back to working on the game of his own invention- Pool Shark.  The game was almost identical to any variation of billiards, 8-Ball, 9-Ball, what have you...with a very noteable exception: a miniature shark that would often swim around the table with its fin blocking intended shots until it would finally burst free of the felt tabletop to swallow up whichever ball was in its path.  Chance looked to one of his "cohorts in crime" who went by the name of Kim Kim.

Chance: "I dunno, K2...It just feels like it's missin' somethin'..."

Kim Kim: "Missing something?  The NORMAL game is immensely popular, even over with the Yanks overseas...and you've got a bloody shark added to all that?"

Chance: "Yeah...well...maybe that's th' problem right there!  Maybe th' problem's just havin' ONE shark!  So...what's the spell for conjurin' multiple mini-sharks again?"

Kim Kim: "We've never had multiple sharks, Chance!  That's craziness!  You won't be able to shoot a thing!"

Chance couldn't help but offer up that mischievous, sideways smirk of his.  Kim Kim shook her head with a tight lipped smile as he gestured playfully.  He kicked back in the chair, lounging with his feet crossed up on a footstool and his hands cradling the back of his spiky, erratic head of hair.

Chance: "Go ahead there then..Yer the brainy lass fer a reason, right?"

Kim Kim smirked, sighed, and began flipping through the pages of a nearby conjuration book.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:  Chance is a dynamic character that can be difficult to read and even more difficult to predict.  Sometimes he struggles with defining just who he is and who he wants to be, but deep down he wants to do the right thing.  So long as his soft heart is reached, he will be continually kind and loyal.

[What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:? Doing the right thing, even if it's unpopular.
[Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:] Consistency is truly the story that proves Chance Ryker's mettle.  He has always been true to himself and done what he's thought to be right.  Now with motivation to take that to a higher level, all the times Chance has stuck up for "the little guy" against the big, brutal, and brutish oafs at Hogwart's will come into play.
"Sure look...I know I'm not yer typical prefect, but that's what's so ruddy great 'bout it!  Professor Levartian has faith in me an' wants me t'help out an' get involved.  I wanna do th' right thing an' if I can help, then I'm gonna do what I can.  If that means stuffin' Callum Knight or Devlin What's-'is-Face in detention hall t'keep Hogwart's a good place t'be where people can be treated fairly, then I'm up fer th' challenge."
