[Nov 27th] Something To Do About Nothing (Toby, Open)

Peyton sat on the bottom steps of the marble staircase heading up. It was just nearing the end of dinner and most students had already gone back to their respective common rooms or even up to the library to try and fit in a few more hours of cramming before they were shuffled off to bed. Peyton didn't feel like going to either location. After eating a relatively small meal he started to wander and just sort of plopped down on the staircase. His book bag was sitting near his feet and his notebook was open on his lap. He was hunched over his notebook scribbling out further Qudditch plays. He was always inventing new ones never sure what could be useful in a pinch.

He hadn't really been feeling all that great. Ever since his DADA class earlier in the day he had been feeling lousy about losing points for Ravenclaw. He also wasn't feeling that great about his back and forth with Xavier that seemed to carry on into his other classes until culminating in a fight that broke out just before dinner. Although he was now sporting a black eye and a fat lip Peyton didn't seem all that bothered by it. It wasn't unusual for him and Xavier to get into a fist fight. It had all started their first day at Hogwarts before they had even gotten to the castle and had continued ever since. Between his fisticuffs with the Slytherin and Xavier's crazy girlfriend constantly jinxing him Peyton had to wonder how he didn't end up at the Hospital hut more often.

Peyton wiped a drop of blood from his notebook scrubbing at it a bit to make sure it didn't leave too much of a mark. Apparently his lip was still bleeding. He sucked his lip into his mouth nursing the split with his tongue while still looking over his Quidditch notes. If he could show them to Leon before their next practice maybe he could get them into play for the next match.

Toby had been wandering around the school as he ate his dinner, not wanting to sit with the others manily becouse he had too much energy still.  He was bounding down the stairs when he saw Peyton sitting at the bottom.
"Hey Peyton, what's going on man?"
Toby sat down next to him and looked over at his friend.
"Woah!" he exclaimed after he saw Peyton's lip. "Haha, how you get that nasty thing?"
Toby took out an apple he had stored in his pocket and took an enormous bite.

His day was pretty good, classes were not as hard as they used to be and with the holidays coming up, his mood was only getting better and better.  The only thing that did not look perfect to him that day was his music.  He had been struggling with a song he was writing and it kept him distracted from almost everything else.  Oh well, no time to think of that now...not with his broom buddy Peyton.

"Wanna go for a joy ride?"  Toby grinned a very mischievous grin.

Peyton was actually happy that it had been Toby to sit down next to him. He knew that his long time broom buddy wasn't going to bug him too much about his split lip and black eye nor was he about to try and heal it for him with sloppy wand work. Peyton always appreciated that about Toby, he let things be. The two had become friends in Peyton's second year, even though Toby was two years older and in Gryffindor the two had shared a passion for flying and Peyton was a fan of Toby's music, over the years their friendship had only gotten better.

With as much of a smile as he could muster without having blood gush from his lip Peyton shrugged, "Got in a fight with Tawse again." Since the two fifth years had been at each others throats since their first year he knew it wouldn't be all that surprising to Toby to know that Xavier had been the one responsible for his current appearance. If anything Toby was likely to shrug it off as easily as he did. It was just something that happened with the two boys. Peyton couldn't understand what it was about Tawse that got under his skin so much but he knew that every fibre of his being hated the other fifth year.

Peyton gave a chuckle and looked out the nearest window. It was pouring rain out and the winds were rattling the windows along the front Entrance Hall, "You wanna fly in this?" He quirked an eyebrow at his friend. Peyton didn't mind the weather himself. Nothing would stop him from getting time in on his broom, "I'm game if you are."
