    Personality Description:
Though often it seems that he is reserved to himself, the former Headmaster of Heraklion is nothing of the sort. Elias is a fierce man with sharp wit and strong moral values that he has kept in check throughout his entire life. Strong and willing to be first in a fight, Elias has seen much in the seventy-two years of his lifetime, including a world war and wizarding battle that almost claimed the lives of him and his family. Overall, Elias has wisdom that he doesn’t mind sharing, but sometimes there more to him than what really does meet the eye.

    History:
Born in Lasithi, Greece on June 27, 1934, Elias Hector Nanopoulos was born into a pureblood magical family raised up on honoring the Grecian past as well as values of faith and courage. Elias had always proved as a young boy growing up that he was interested in the ancient stories about the gods and goddess of Greece while at the same time was interested in the world around him, little knowing his interest at the time would lead to WWII. The Nanopoulos family raised Elias along with three other siblings, a set of fraternal twins (boy and girl) and a younger sister, a set of grandparents, but none of the family would ever realize that the rise of a muggle ruler named Adolf Hitler would ever take over their native lands.

Three months prior to his seventh birthday, the island of Crete was attacked by the Axis Powers in 1941 and soon enough, Crete was under its control – Elias’s older brother, Constantine, was about to graduate from Heraklion Institute when he decided to join a secret band of rebels that would try and attempt a rebellion against the Axis Powers. Elias’s parents decided two months later that it was far too dangerous for the rest of the children to stay in Greece, thus they sent Elias, along with his two sisters, to live in England with their mother’s parents and assured them all that they would join with them as soon as Constantine returned.

Over the next two years, Elias was raised by his mother’s parents and soon received magical training for both him and his younger sister while the oldest, Alexus, finished her school year at Hogwarts as a Ravenclaw since she had been an Apollo at Heraklion. Towards the end of WWII, Elias’ mother and Constantine had arrived in England to only speak of the horrors they had seen in the war. When the discussion of what had become of their father, their mother simply explained that he was working in a labor camp and would be home soon. When the war ended in 1945, Elias and the family returned back to their home in Lasithi to find it utter ruins, but soon decided to rebuild – within two months of the treaty signed for the war in Europe, Elias’ father returned home to help finish build the home, but Elias noticed there was something different about him. His father for a few years had nightmares about the horrors he himself had experienced in the concentration camp of Salonika.

Finally in 1948, Elias received the letter to attend Heraklion Institute as well as Durmstrang Institute. His family was very well pleased to know that both Institutes were still in progress. They worried, however, knowing about Grindelwald and the talks of the darkness surrounding Durmstrang — yet they relented and let him choose. The choice was Durmstrang and his father found himself finding happiness in the knowledge that his son would going as well as that the world of the wizardring folk would help the boy forget any and all of the troubles they had faced during the war. During his tenure at the Institute, Elias was highly intrigued by all forms of magic, but found it lacking in teaching good material versus the constant need for ambition and the use of dark magic at times. After graduation, he decided to work small jobs at the Ministry as well as privately tutoring students during the summer breaks as a means for money. He wed a halfblood, Iva Alekto, and found happiness in being a father to two boys and a girl, Alexios, Androcles, and Kuria.

Elias’ hard work finally paid off in 1965 when he was able to begin teaching as a private instructor full time for witches and wizards who could not afford a proper education. Iva and the children were well fed and loved unconditionally, so this caused him happiness, however, there were some who saw it as a waste of time and effort. He loved what he was doing, even as the reign and fall of Voldemort in England seemed to unaffect those in Greece. Harry Potter wasn’t a name he really knew, but word eventually made it into the country. Elias found the story both horrific and surprising – of which made him rethink his own paths. The private instruction was starting to pay less and less as pupils were more focused on other things, so he ended this job in early 1989 as his children were old and graduated from their own school days.

July of 1989 found him being asked an important question: Would he become the Headmaster of the Institute in Heraklion? Elias was so highly uncertain – could his heart open enough to  teaching and instructing the many? Though he did contain Albus Dumbledore as he seemed wise enough, Elias remained uncertain. It took Iva’s cunning spirit to push him forward and thus, he became Headmaster. The toils of labor from his past paid off rather well as he was a well received Headmaster, liked by many and tolerated by some. Yet, all would not bode well many a year later. Voldemort’s return was bigger and badder than ever – thus, Alexi wanted to make it safer, especially for those who needed help. He, admist slight protests from his mother, decided to join the Ministry’s Auror force and headed off to England. Iva was heartbroken since he was dear to her heart (as was all of her children), but the heartbreak only increased as the firstborn of their children was killed by Death Eaters. Tragedy seemed to fill the Nanopoulos household and Elias still strived to keep up his position as Headmaster as well as the supportive paternal figure. Even as the Battle of Hogwarts occurred, Elias was finding himself in poor health as he was working himself into a void of despair and thus, he resigned after the Battle. Iva and Elias took a few years for themselves to repair the damaged hearts and emotions, especially once Alexios’ body was returned to Greece with high honors from Great Britian’s Ministry.

The new century brought hope and promise for all in the wizarding world. This was no different for Elias who decided in honor of his departed son to join the Ministry once again. Iva worried (naturally), but found it praiseworthy as her husband chose to work as an International Liason. Elias’ wishes were to bring Ministries closer together, of which he hoped would include countries such as Romania (an old ally, but crumbling since the 80’s) and of course, America and Great Britiain. Romania was not too certain, but with convincing talks between Vlad Dragulia and Elias seemed to remedy the situation – America seemed eager and Great Britian seemed to not hesitate at all. Currently now in 2006, Elias is a great grandfather and grandfather, but still remains faithful to the Ministry in Greece.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Though an eccentric man, Elias is insightful and a benefit to the Ministries for England and Greece. His opinion may not be the best and well received, but is respected. He has made both friend and enemy over the years – he cares for those he holds dear and dislikes those who would do harm for society than good. Overall, Elias is the wise man from the Mediterranean.

    I hope your brains don't explode :/
