Physical Description: Roxanne isn't the prettiest girl in her year, but she's not the ugliest, either. The girl is "horse-faced" with a long face, rounded chin, and a small nose. Her eyes (blue with a green-brown ring around the pupil) are, at least, set at just the right height on her face and have good spacing from each other on her nose. She has long, thin ash-blond hair that frames her face to make it look a little bit longer. On occasion, she has it pulled back in a ponytail or pigtails, but she mostly wears it down. Another reason she gets picked on is that she's awfully tall for a girl her age. Roxanne doesn't just stand at the unusual height of 5' 7", she's also thin and lanky weighing only 125 lbs with long arms and even longer legs; her torso is probably the shortest thing on her body. She's been taller than her peers since she was 9 years old and hasn't stopped her growth spurts yet. They come annually and older members in her family, who have shared the same thing, have determined it's magic-related. Her most significant feature (other than the obvious longevity of her limbs and face) would be the gap between her two front teeth. Because of this gap, she can't whistle, but she can spit between it.
The girl's fashion sense includes a lot of vintage or retro styles of both the wizarding and muggle worlds. She loves the big coke bottle glasses, stepford wife style dresses, and boots with thick heels. Roxanne loves to go out on the town in style and even for casual situations, she wears cute shirts, stylish pants, and comfortable shoes. There can be times when she's a tomboy, but those aren't as common as her attention-seeking outfits.
Personality Description: Roxanne Cross is a black sheep of her family. Her only known parent is her mother, Isolde/Jenny Cross, and she's one of a handful of the Cross bloodline to be sorted into Hufflepuff. Like many Huffles, Roxanne values friendship and loyalty above all else and she has no particular talents in magic. The girl is all about people: she seeks meaning and connection in ideas, relationships, and material possessions and wants to understand what motivates people. Her unfathomable empathy provides her with a creepy amount of insight to others and combined with her intuition creates for a natural seer without the use of any form of actual Divination. She is what people call a "giver" and with it, she has a very sunny disposition that makes her somehow look brighter.
She is introverted because she firmly believes that her own feelings are best kept to herself and those she confides in. Her introvertedness is neither caused by her being shy, bashful, or insecure; she is actually quite sociable with people. The problem with Roxanne is that friends seem to be scarce with her. Her idea of a friend must meet her high standards and are therefore chosen
too carefully for normal people's liking. However, the person(s) she does finally decide upon to be her friends are those who will share a bond with her that will never fade or break. Sometimes, because she takes so long to make people an actual friend, her peers tend to see her as someone who is anti-social. This is not so as she is very social, but she keeps her own heart and emotions tied away. There are occasions in which Roxanne will indeed be anti-social because among casual conversation, she will withdraw into herself away from even her closest friends in order to let her overload of stress escape her. Give it several hours - a day or two and she'll be back to her normal, sunny self.
Because she is very questioning of people's motives, she can be suspicious of people no matter what house they are in. Roxanne is not easily fooled by people's silver tongues nor is she naive. Who needs logic when one has intuition and judgment? Although she may not be very expressive, opinionated, affectionate, or what she calls "overly-social and fun", she is sensible enough to understand when a person has ill or good intentions. Jokes are funny, but lying and manipulating people are not. As for her losing her temper, it never happens. She vents to her friends in a closed space in rare, stressful circumstances, but she tends to keep a clear head and soft tongue when she does. Another fault of hers is that as intuitive as she may be, Roxanne has no tolerance for classes. She has become lazy with her academic efforts and fallen into the category of "underachiever" mainly because she's underchallenged. Her intelligence doesn't necessarily exceed the given work, but it does expand in ways that make classrooms, books, and essays troublesome for her to bare. Therefore, as a bored person who received top marks in her first two years, the 3rd year Hufflepuff has decided to take on a more lazy approach.
As an ending note, Roxanne cannot make up her mind about boys. The feelings she has recently been reading from her classmates has started to confuse her greatly and it all relates to boys or, in the male classmates' cases, girls. Therefore, items and relationships are out of her league and she doesn't care to delve into that world. The empathic waves she receives from her girly peers temporarily short-circuited her "inner vision" of the unconscious (or, most likely, the unseen/unspoken) feelings that they have bubbling within them. She has fully recovered, thankfully, and now refuses to take part in granting them with insight to their situations despite her current attempts to work out solutions. Though, she doesn't understand why the girls don't do the obvious and say something to the boys (and vice versa).
History: Roxanne was born in Bristol, England to her single mother, Isolde Cross, who had placed herself in a strange situation with a Muggle man. He was handsome, charming, and selfish like Isolde's arranged-betrothed and out of rebellion against her father, Jenny and the man had a one-night stand. She didn't care to get his name or number and as a result, had no way to contact him to let him know that she was pregnant six weeks later. So, the woman raised Roxanne on her own. They were disowned by Isolde's father, but out of spite, she kept the name Cross and flaunted it all over England to associate it with things her father hated, such as Muggles, PAWS, and Mud-bloods. When he tried to kill Roxanne, Isolde went into hiding in London with her toddler and took up a new identity, Jenny Cross. Keeping the name Cross created some attention for a while, but Jenny assured them she had no relation to that "wretched family" and that she was a Muggle-born.
Roxanne spent 7 years as an only child in a 1 bedroom apartment of a magical apartment building with an Invisible Charm. Her mother took up a job working in Knockturn Alley as a counter-jinx specialist and left Roxanne at the apartment alone every day. She was lonely without a sibling so instead, the child found comfort in helping people out at the apartment building. She may not have been able to do magic at her age, but she could still do some chores to aid them so they wouldn't have to use as much magic as usual. As payment, she received some Knuts or most commonly snacks and lunches until her mother got home. There were some days when Jenny couldn't stand to be away from her daughter and had to take the child to work with her. These were the best days because Roxanne could spend her earnings on some ice cream or a new trinket.
Eventually, Jenny's cousin Vladimir Cross (who was Isolde's closest relative) found the two of them in Knockturn Alley and demanded Jenny beg forgiveness from her father. She refused and an argument ensued. Vladimir was disgusted when he found out where they were living and insisted they come live with him at his personal cottage. Jenny agreed and swept Roxanne off to a homely Victorian-era house on the outskirts of London. Roxanne spent her ages from 9 to 11 in this cottage cooped up with a nutter great-aunt that spent her time wallowing in tears from the death of her husband and a sadistic Necromancer who had originally been betrothed to her mother (they never married, thankfully). Needless to say, Roxanne was more than glad when her Hogwarts letter came and it was her dark second-cousin Vladimir who took her to Diagon Alley to purchase her things. What little time she spent with him, she didn't enjoy.
Her first two years at Hogwarts had been pretty good after being sorted into Hufflepuff. She got top marks in her classes, found them average and boring, and made only one or two friends. Vladimir and her mother watched her over the summers between as well as the holidays: there was nothing extraordinary about her. She was social with others and generally helpful (a trait Vladimir didn't fully understand) and was a very cheerful girl to be around. Since they couldn't fathom why she had only one or two friends, they finally asked her and she explained to them that friends were important and not to be chosen lightly. At long last, she survived her second summer (somehow) with her aunt. That whole summer, Roxanne appreciated the absence of Vladimir Cross, who was away for long periods of time on business for dark witches and wizards, and her mother was now starting to slide her way into the notorious rings.
How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Roxanne has an average amount of magical talent and therefore, no true speciality except with people interactions. Friends and loyalty are valued above all else and there are extremely high standards set for her friends.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Introverted, but social with a sunny disposition, Roxanne happens to be an average Hufflepuff to get along with. She ignores that people make fun of her looks behind her back (being above average height) and focuses more on the empathic waves that she receives from those around her. Her insight to people's motivations and emotions have made her a little creepy, but her intuition of how interactions could work out have impressed a large amount of the student body and lead them to believe she's some sort of Seer or prophet.
