First Impression: Dahlia often gives off the impression that she's younger than she actually is. She comes across as cute and sweet and not unlike her older sister, in fact there have been times that at first glance people have mistaken her for the older Hufflepuff. Dahlia instantly seems approachable and is rarely seen without a smile on her face.
Any odd/outstanding features?: The only thing that could be considered outstanding for the young Hufflepuff would be just how much she looks like her sister and how much she doesn't look like her twin Erik.
Personality Description:
Despite how much Dahlia physically looks like her big sister the two girls couldn't be more different. Dahlia gets along with her sister just fine but she's definitely more reserved. Dahlia is the sweet charming young girl that is eager to make friends with anyone and everyone she meets. She does her best to hold back judgement or prejudice against others and only really dislikes someone when they do something serious to offend, betray or hurt her. Anyone who spends any sort of time with the young girl can tell that she's very intelligent and takes her school work very seriously. She's not typically labelled as a bookworm due to her impressive social skills but she does have an insatiable thirst for knowledge. Unfortunately there have been times when she's taken her work too seriously and ended up staying up all night studying, something much to the annoyance of her dormmates.
Like most Hufflepuffs Dahlia treasures her friendships the most. She will do anything for her friends but once someone betrays that friendship it's hard for Dahlia to let them back in. She takes any kind of betrayal very seriously. She's finds it hard to forgive people unless it's her crazy twin brother Erik. Despite her obvious smarts Dahlia can act like the dumbest person in the world when it comes to her brother. He has a knack for getting her into all sorts of trouble that would otherwise seem uncharacteristic of her. This has caused many people mainly Professors to become disappointed in her, it's hard for most people to comprehend why a student who is so smart can so easily do something so stupid. Dahlia has received similar reactions from her peers in the past, many girls have had no problem making friends with her but refuse to spend time with her if she's with her twin.
Like most first years Dahlia's main concern is fitting in making friends and not trolling out. She's proud to be a hufflepuff like her sister but has a hard time dealing with her other half having been sorted into a seperate house. Luckily most of the first years have classes together and so she gets to see her twin on a daily basis. The few older students that Dahlia has come across think she's a little weird mostly due to the fact that they expect her to be as crazy and spunky as Ayla. Students as often taken aback when they discover she'd much rather put her nose in book than someone else's personal life and some still haven't recovered from the shock of how different the two girls are, preferring the older more outgoing Collins' girl.
History:
Dahlia was born on December 14th 1996 three minutes after her twin brother Erik. The twins were born to Joseph Collins and Miranda Hallowell who already had a young daughter, Ayla, two years earlier. Dahlia grew up alongside her twin like any other muggle child although she learned from a young age like her sister had that her father was special and could do real magic. He wasn't allowed to do magic in the house all that often, only when it was absolutely necessary, like lulling the twins to sleep after a hard day of dealing with the babies and an angry toddler.
It was clear from an early age that Dahlia was intelligent, she hit miletones earlier that her sister had and before her twin did. In school Dahlia was the model student, that was until her brother got involved. Her teachers were constantly disappointed at her behaviour saying from the start that Erik was a bad influence on her. By the time the twins hit the third grade it was recommended that they be placed in seperate classes but even that kind of seperation wasn't enough to keep Erik from roping Dahlia into his mischievious plans. Luckily her big sister was a much better influence and was more than willing to keep the pair of trouble makers out of trouble.
When the twins were nine their father got a job as the Canadian Ambassador for the British Ministry's Department of International Magical Cooperation and the whole Collins family was uprooted and moved to London. Both of their parents had already secured jobs and a house had been bought before they even moved. Dahlia was estatic at the idea of moving. She was intrigued by a whole new country and culture that she could sink her academic teeth into not the mention the blissful notion of having her own room for the first time in her life.
The nest two years the twins were homeschooled as their new house had a fully furnished basement that Miranda used as a stay at home office. She continued their elementry education while once a week a tutor hired by their father came in to teach them about the wizarding world and Britain's role in it. When it was time to get ready for her first year at Hogwarts Dahlia was much more prepared and comfortable with the culture around her both muggle and wizarding than her older sister had been. Although she was born in another country Dahlia never has second thoughts about where she belongs and doesn't find herself longing for Canada the way her sister does.
During the sorting ceremony Dahlia was put into Hufflepuff while her twin brother was sorted into Gryffindor. Dahlia's apprenhensive about being seperated from her twin brother again but is delighted that she can share her house with her older sister.
How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Being a first year Dahlia's still settling in. Due to the fact that Ayla's already been at Hogwarts for two years Dahlia is often judged by her sisters actions since she hasn't had time give any impressions of her own. Thankfully most people in her house are fond of the older gossip queen.
Writing Sample:
Dahlia looked down the darkened corridor half expecting to see a silver flash of one of the house ghosts or worst yet that infamous poltergeist Peeves. Thankfully the coast was clear and she moved silently along, her fluffy bunny slippers muffling all sound. She should have been back in the Hufflpuff common room, she should have been asleep or finishing up her transfiguration parchment, there was a lot of things she should have been doing and walking down a barely lit corridor in the middle of the night was definitely not one of them. Although here she was slowly moving through the castle making her way to the Gryffindor common room.
Dahlia swallowed hard as she turned another corner. If she were caught it would be horrible. It would be Springfield Elementry all over again. She hated seeing the disappointed looks on her teachers faces but there was no denying him when Erik got that mischievious glint in his eye. It was fun going on adventures with Erik, it had always been and now being inside a magical castle their adventures were bound to be even more fun than they had before. It was this lure that had brought Dahlia out of the safety of her dorm room and into the danger of detentions, disappointed Professors and revoked house points.
Dahlia paused outside the portrait of the fat lady ignoring the looks she was getting from the other portraits. Most were asleep but she could tell some of them were faking and were staring at her through tiny slits in their eyes. She rolled her own green blue eyes and tapped her bunny clad foot impatiently. Finally the portrait swung forward and the shadowy form of her twin rbother appeared. Dahlia's face lit up with excitement and the prospect of adventure making her look like Ayla when she's on the trail of making a solid romantic connection, "What took you so long?" She glanced down the corridor again then looked back to him with a mischievious grin that mirrored his own, "C'mon, let's go."
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Cute smart and promising student. Strong loyal friend that will do anything for those she loves. Dahlia is constantly caught between her siblings, a brother who can talk her into any sort of mischief no matter what the consequences and an older overtly girly sister that seems more interested in who like whom than who was involved in the second wizarding war.
