Character Profile

Basic Info
Full Character Name: Serenity Lee Blackthorne
Character Birthday & Age: October 30th, 1996 - 13 years old
City & Country of Birth: New Ashford, Massachusettes; USA
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Pureblood
House & Year: Ravenclaw - 3rd Year

Wand: Larch Wood, Unicorn Hair, 8 and 3/4 inches. Springy with a Spiraled shaft.

Physical
Serenity is of average height with a "petite" build: she possesses child-sized hands and feet and a "fair" complexion with freckles dotted in many places all over her. The way she walks makes her seem smaller because she tends to look down at her feet and hide her face as if trying to be as small as possible (caused by a lack of self-confidence, it seems). Her hair color is a very dark brown that is almost black until the sun captures it in the right light, straight and always hanging in her face and extends to her mid-back. Seen on her in many different places are bumps, bruises, scratches, and scars from where she has been fool-hardy enough to challenge her older siblings or pets and magnificently lost the battle.

Her face is oval-shaped with a small nose, a straight-toothed grin with dimples, and few freckles on her face--which is odd because the rest of her is covered by them. Her eyes, though people rarely see them because of the curtain of hair that usually hides her face, are a rich brown color. Throughout years of practice, she can maneuver her thin eyebrows and make some very interesting expressions. Because Serenity is full of wonder, she has a wide variety of facial expressions and uses them to their full extent. She also has bad eye-sight and sometimes needs to wear glasses, though she is currently shy about this and refuses to wear them in public such as the Ravenclaw common room, classes, or anywhere else she's studying--even at the cost of a headache from straining her eyes.

Serenity's wardrobe is not as meticulous as her older sister's, nor as stylish as her youngest sibling's: she does not keep up with fashion and she is not obsessive-compulsive about her image. She is more suited for adventure, often wearing "play clothes" which include jeans or overalls, t-shirts, and sneakers or boots that she doesn't mind getting dirty. Serenity is rarely found in a dress--although that does not mean she is against them; she simply has no room in her life for them at the moment. At Hogwarts, her robes are only a little worn--but they have been darned or patched because of her misadventures from previous years. She wears a skirt and stockings like the other girls, as well. Gone are the days when she would hide her face with her hair; as a third year, she is becoming more open and therefore has a number of hair accessories to keep her hair out of her face: headbands, hair pins, ties... But no bows.

Personality
Though not necessarily timid so much as she is uncertain and wavering, Serenity tends to be rather friendly. Her muggle-loving family isn't something to be ashamed of nor is her intelligence and clever thinking, but she still feels as if there is something about her that people simply cannot generally accept. Whether it's because of her extremely strange taste (even by Muggle standards) for odd trinkets and "nerd culture" or because she is so curious and imaginative that she is seen wandering around chasing invisible butterflies, the girl is deemed odd among both wizarding and muggle societies. Due to her constantly daydreaming and goggling off in another world, she has become a very ditzy and absent-minded, although very imaginative, Ravenclaw.

From the very get-go, Serenity was a timid first year. She was terrified of older students and was occasionally bullied. Her speech was even timid: she talked barely above a whisper or a mutter. The first years were really the only ones she associated with and she got along all right with her dorm-mates. She was always studious, though it was an odd topic she would spend hours reading about. If the essay was assigned Goblin Wars vs Humans, she would be reading about Goblin culture and the rise of Gringott's. She would also be reading muggle books on the subject of Goblins, when she could find them, and include the muggles' view of Goblins somewhere in her essay--just as trivia, of course. Her curiosity and imagination are the very core of her being and she never once turned down the idea of an adventure with the other first years.

Over the years with her peers, she has grown accustomed to at least one misadventure a year and always looks forward to another one--often going so far as to instigate them herself. If any research needs to be done before the kids go scrambling around to hatch a dragon egg, Serenity is on the case and will read a broad assortment of books on dragons. This particular Ravenclaw lives for adventure and knowledge. These passions are what lead her to joining the Hogwarts Gaming Club, where she aspires to become a Dungeon Master for a game of Dungeons & Dragons. She is a huge nerd, being a fan of muggle television shows such as Doctor Who, Sherlock, and she indulges in dozens of fantasy books (Discworld, Lord of the Rings, Howl's Moving Castle, etc.). She also reads comic books on occasion and is a Marvel fan-girl.

History
Romulus Blackthorne and Morgana Strange had been wed for several years and lived among an America muggle community, regardless of their magical heritage. At the time, Romulus worked with the U.S. Magical Government in the Muggle Liason Office whereas Morgana stayed at home to look after her children, Romaine and Angerona.

A third child was soon born to the Blackthorne's on Halloween of 1996: a girl which they named Serenity Lee. On her first birthday, Romulus and Morgana received word that Voldemort had been totally defeated by Harry Potter at the Battle for Hogwarts. Immediately, the family relocated to Godric's Hollow in England to be reunited with their families: the Blackthornes, the Ruggles (Romulus's mother's side of the family), and the Stranges (Morgana's father; her mother was a muggle). Upon moving to Godric's Hollow, the pair switched roles: Romulus stayed at home with the children while Morgana went to work as an English teacher at a muggle boarding school.

Romaine was accepted to Hogwarts not long after the family had settled in to their new home and was not there for Serenity's 2nd birthday. A new addition, however, arrived little more than a year later: Ravenna Laudine. Even though she was only a toddler when her sister was born, Serenity was extremely sweet to her sibling (as opposed to a rather jealous Angerona). Over the course of school, it became customary for the girls to sit around the living room, listening to their father read Romulus's letters of his adventures in Hogwarts with little Ravenna asleep in her bassinet.

Meanwhile, Serenity and Angerona went to muggle grammar school to understand the basics of language, writing, and arithmetic. Serenity was a sort of oddball among her own family, as she quickly became addicted to muggle things such as television, comic books, some video games, and, above all, books. They were not necessarily useful books, but in fact they were fantasy series. Her father decided to invest in a game for Christmas that year: Dungeons and Dragons.

As it was not a simple one-player game, the whole family played with her (Romaine and Morgana joined during winter and summer breaks) and it became another family tradition. Angerona finally received her Hogwarts letter, leaving only Serenity, the toddler Ravenna, and their dad alone throughout the school years. During the day, the three would frequent book shops in both the wizarding and muggle communities, watch television, or play video games. The four years seemed to lag by. Romaine finally graduated from Hogwarts and, that September, Serenity Lee received her own Hogwarts acceptance letter.

First Year

Serenity Lee's first year at Hogwarts was terrifying and thrilling all at once: she was the first one to be sorted into Ravenclaw since her father. She received good marks in her classes and kept her nose in her books because she was too timid to make any friends. Her hair hid her face like a curtain most of the time and she rarely smiled. She received a letter from her father stating that Romaine acquired a job at the Ministry of Magic in the Care of Magical Creatures Department. Her father also said he would be working at a broom shop in Diagon Alley and that his sister, Ingrid, would be babysitting Ravenna if this happened.

Summer Break (2008 - 2009)
It was customary for every summer since they had moved to England for the little family to spend an entire summer break with one family or another, alternating each year. Serenity loved both families, but she was more attached to her maternal grandfather, Gerald Strange, who worked as a magical artifact curse breaker; his muggle wife, Miranda, was the Professor of Archaeology at the University of Cambridge and a part-time archaeologist. They occasionally sent her muggle curiosities to tinker with such as broken clocks, jars of old keys, photographs of insignificant people, and sometimes a magical trinket like a Sneak-o-Scope, a broken talisman, or a Remembrall. She didn't mind if these things never worked because she was more interested in collecting them or jumbling parts together.

This year, they visited the Strange's. For doing good in school, her grandparents gave her a new broom for Quidditch and the book, Quidditch Through the Ages. She and her siblings, along with some of their cousins, got in lots of practice over the summer. Ravenna was finally allowed to play after years of begging; she was old enough to not fall off her broom.

Second Year

With her brother working for the Ministry of Magic and her older sister years ahead of her, Serenity felt a little lonely. She sent countless letters to Ravenna giving her odd tips and was happy when she got a reply. Thanks to some of her cousins, she managed to come out of her shell a little bit (mostly by accident, as it was hard not to be excited what with the Tetrawizard Tournament going on) and made a couple of friends. She once again acquired good marks and was excited to sign up for her third year electives.

Summer Break (2009-2010)
This year, the Blackthornes went to stay with her paternal side of the family: the Ruggles and the Blackthornes. Her grandparents were not there for very long as they had important social events to attend, but they did leave her with some things they thought she might like such as The Slither Girls collection, a record of Celestina Warbeck, and a new set of robes for school (including dress robes). What she enjoyed most about her summer vacation was that some of her cousins actually joined in a game of Dungeons & Dragons with her and her siblings! She bonded with several of them over summer break and was honestly sad to go, though she knew she would see them again at Hogwarts later that year--along with her sister, Ravenna, whom received her Hogwarts letter.

Summary
Serenity is a friendly yet highly curious little Ravenclaw with an eccentric, nerdy personality. Not many people know what her face looks like because she has tried her hardest to keep it hidden by the dark brown, almost black, hair she inherited from her mother. She is rather introverted because of a lack of self-esteem, but nevertheless she is friendly to all those who have a good attitude and tries to make friends (although this is a little hard for people considering she doesn't smile very often).

EXTRAS

Gimli

Species: Manx

Gender: Male

Personality: Gimli is a wreck of a cat. He is highly loyal and protective of Serenity (although he will not attack strangers unless he knows they are a threat), intelligent, enjoys long trips (especially on the Hogwarts Express or to and from summer vacations), and has an estranged taste for wizarding candy. He is not in the least bit athletic, normally, and acts as though he has very little interest in anything--even cuddling, hunting, and normal feline activities. He is, however, competitive. Very competitive, specifically concerning Serenity's attention. If he catches her paying attention to another animal, he will do tricks to compete with it--no matter what it is. She has often come across Gimli trying to bark when he sees her petting a dog. If he does not get his way and feels that he has "lost", he will attack the animal. This is the only exercise anyone has ever witnessed Gimli perform.

Story: Serenity was staying with her Maternal Grandparents (the Strange's) during her summer as a 9 year old. Her uncle Ralston brought a crate full of abandoned kittens for her and the other children to pick out. They were all sorts of different breeds. He'd said he found them skittering about in Knockturn Alley and rescued them before they were caught and their innards used for potions. (It was a gruesome story.) Of all of them, the kitten she chose was the only one without a tail: a Manx kitten. Having been greatly obsessed with Lord of the Rings at that time, she dubbed him "Gimli" because his tail was shorter than the rest of the group and he was a bit slower at running.

Wand

Larch Wood
Strong, durable and warm in colour, larch has long been valued as an attractive and powerful wand wood. Its reputation for instilling courage and confidence in the user has ensured that demand has always outstripped supply. This much sought-after wand is, however, hard to please in the matter of ideal owners, and trickier to handle than many imagine.

The celebrated wandmaker Garrick Ollivander found that larch always created wands of hidden talents and unexpected effects, which likewise describes the master who deserves it. It is often the case that the witch or wizard who belongs to the larch wand may never realise the full extent of their considerable talents until paired with it, but that they will then make an exceptional match.

This suggests that Serenity has great unlocked potential. She is a modest girl trying to figure out her role in the world and develop herself as a person. Her wand has caught on to that and has worked considerably well for her. The time she has the most confidence is when she is standing up for what she believes is right and although she does not just draw her wand and start firing hexes, her wand has been in a duel or two and together they have proved to be a mighty duo. If she were to get more practice at spells (and dueling), her foe would certainly have met a match in confidence and potential. One quirk of her wand, however, is that it does sometimes tie in to her subconscious and produce unexpected, harmless effects (sprouting flowers, projecting a weak butterfly image, etc.) when it happens to be in her hand.

Core: Unicorn Hair

Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.

Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing.

Serenity's wand is indeed faithful and strongly attached to her. It is highly unlikely that she would ever turn to the Dark Arts, but in the slight possibility that she did, her wand would have to be cast away. While it is true that the wand draws the greatest power from her untapped potential and confidence, it also has a deep admiration for her humble attitude. She is a fierce fighter against injustice and should she finally master her hidden talents, her wand would keep her from becoming overly powered and therefore be useless as a wand for a Dark Serenity.

Length: 8 and 3/4 inches

As size often has to do with personality, the length of her wand simply states that she has an average personality that is not too shallow and not too deep. She is a rather simple girl at the base of her core. This is often shown when she speaks because she does not just babble away; she often gets to the point very quickly. And while she is entertained by fantasy, she does not condone deceit, half-truths, or vagueness of any sort.

Handle: Springy with a spiraled shaft.

Springy: Charms. Energetic disposition and Friendly.

Spiraled Shaft: Quick witted and Open-Minded
