Physical Description: Lance is a tall, rugged, well-built man that keeps in top shape by running, hiking and mountain climbing, spending a lot of time outdoors. He has bright blue eyes and thick dirty blonde hair that he keeps short on the bottom and a little shaggy on top. He likes to get dirty and doesn’t mind wearing the same dirty cloths days in a row when he’s working over time. He is a handsome man, but his big mouth tends to take away from his attractiveness. He does try to keeps a clean-cut image, though sometimes can’t be bothered to shave (until his mother nags him about it).
Personality Description: Lance has a quick wit about him. He’s stubborn and can be sarcastic and moody at times, but is generally a good guy. He is focused on his job and takes it serious, though doesn’t always take himself serious. He sometimes gets into trouble from his superiors for not always following the rules, but they put up with him (he always gets the job done). He’s a courageous and determined man, not much fazes him, and yet still remains a momma’s boy. He looks forward to his quiet time home alone, but often frequency’s the pubs with co-workers after work to unwind.
History: Lance grew up in a half-blood home. His mother (Eleanor) being a witch, father (Edward) a Muggle. His father was a tough man military man and not exactly a magic supporter. He fought tooth and nail to stop Lance and his older brother Colin from attending Hogwarts. He wanted his sons to join the military like “real men”. But his mother always ended up getting her way in the end. Colin was ten years older than Lance. You could say that Lance was an unplanned “surprise” for his parents.
Colin was placed in Slytherin in spite of only being a “half-blood”. He certainly exhibited the traits of a Slytherin (cunning and ambition) but was still a good student and loving older brother to Lance. Colin often fought with their father about how he should and shouldn’t use his magic. He didn’t like him using it for things he thought he should do himself. They also didn’t see eye to eye on many Muggle/Wizard issues. By the end of his time at Hogwarts, Colin had fallen into the wrong crowd and became a Death Eater from pressure of his friends who were also involved, and also to despite his father. The Death Eaters didn’t put restrictions on his powers like his father wanted to. He became more distant from his family (blaming his long hours at his job as a Hitwizard) but still remained close with Lance and their Mother and kept in touch. They were unaware of his involvement with the Death Eaters.
Lance and his parents only learned the truth about Colin after his death during the battle of Hogwarts. Lance knew he and his brother had their differences and didn’t always get along with their father, but never really understood why he would ever resort to become a Death Eater.
Lance was present during the Battle of Hogwarts but was kept back inside the castle by professors, unaware of his brother’s involvement, fighting outside the walls of the castle.
Lance was 14, a third year Gryffindor when his brother died. It turned his world around. Lance had always looked up to his brother; he thought he could do no wrong. He had always wanted to be like Colin and someday join the Magical Law Enforcement Squad.
He began to question everything. Where did Colin go wrong? Would he turn out like him? But mostly why did he do it? It still haunts him.
Ultimately he realized he was better than his brother and kept on course to join the
Magical Law Enforcement Squad and succeeded in doing so after graduation.
Lance became very close to his parents after losing Colin. His father had become supportive and respectful of him and his choices as a wizard. It was hard on Lance when his father passed away a few years ago of a heart attack. He spends as much time as he can with his mother at their family home in Westminster, usually playing cards, having tea or if their both having a bad day sharing a glass or two of firewhiskey. He does everything he can to take care of her.
Lance was engaged to his Hogwarts sweetheart, but she called it off a few weeks before the wedding, breaking his heart. She decided she couldn’t be married to a Hitwizard. He spent too much time working and came home exhausted and withdrawn. Not to mention how dangerous it was.
He now lives in a quaint little cottage outside of London not too far from his mother. It’s a quiet and serene escape from the everyday stress of his job. The only constant women in his life are his mother and his dog “Lucy”.
What is your job description? How do you go about your job? How did you get your current job? How does your past and abilities justify your current position?:
Assisting Aurors in capturing and arresting criminals. He’s quick on his feet and with a wand. His father taught him many military self-defense moves and can handle a fight without a wand if needed.
Writing Sample:
Show your character in a scene that illustrates the best and worst aspects
of their personality. Include action, dialog and thought.
Lance wiped the sweat from his forehead; he was relieved to have corned this creep in the ally, giving him a moment to catch his breath.
“Accio wand” he summoned the wizards wand to him, and tucked it in his back pocket.
Criminal activity was definitely on the rise with the fall of the economy and all. Lance was working so much overtime he was starting to spend his nights crashing in the ministry staff room, not that he was being paid for it or anything. He was a loyal employee and didn’t complain, it was his duty to try to keep the streets safe.
The wizard turned around to reach for the door in the dark ally. Lance quickly pointed his wand at the door “colloportus” magically locking the door, preventing him from escaping.
Lance walked over to the wizard, getting a better look at him. “What do we have here? Another twenty-something trying to steal gold from a nice old witch eh!”
Normally he would arrest him and take him back to a holding cell where he would have to fill out piles of paper work, but Lance was running on only a few hours of sleep. He was desperate for a drink, and The Leaky Cauldron wasn’t far.
Lance look up and spotted ad old store sign hanger fastened to the brick wall and smiled. He pointed his wand at the frightened young wizard “Levi corpus” he levitated him up till his cloak was caught on the hanger, leaving the wizard dangling.
Lance turned and started to walk away. “You can’t just leave me here!” he cried at Lance. Lance kept walking and shouted “hang around, I’ll be back later.”
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Lance is a little cocky and stubborn, he doesn’t like to rely on anyone but himself. He is very determined and hates to fail at any mission.
