Physical Description:

Nikolai looms over most other students due to his large stature. additionally, he is also physically fit and has a massive amount of muscle. Very strong, he has to be careful to avoid using too much strength in delicate tasks. His hair, kept surprisingly short, fit the rest of him perfectly. Little hair draws the attention of onlookers to his unsettling ice blue eyes. Most people fine the particular shade of his eyes eerie. This is compounded further by his habit of staring at people while they talk to him. Additionally, Nikolai keeps a small amount of facial hair in the form of a goatee around his face, giving him the appearance of a professor. Younger students often mistake him for a seventh year due to this and his overall deep and authoritative voice.

Personality Description:

Nikolai is at best simply described as curious, kind, and gentle. Though possessing a fair amount of intelligence and wit, he is by no means the top of his class. He is simply far above average, capable of handling most problems with ease. His kindness is apparent in his actions, as he often goes out of his way to avoid making things difficult for others. His heart matches his size. Nikolai is gentle in not only his physical actions, but in his words. He often praises people for their actions and will avoid sensitive subjects if possible. Yet, perhaps his most endearing attribute is his curiosity. Nikolai likes learning, even though he is not the best at it. This curiosity is a double-edged sword however, as it is both his greatest strength and weakness. It is his strength as it gives him the insight to devise creative solutions to problems. However, it is a handicap as he sometimes deviates from instructions, wondering what will happen. Though Nikolai has gotten better about this, he sometimes falters. Finally, Nikolai possesses an grandiose and idealistic sense of justice. He is about total fairness and despises cheating and dishonesty. Nikolai holds an intense disdain for lying, though would do it if were absolutely and totally necessary for someone's survival or to be avoid being cruel to someone.

Despite Nikolai's friendly demeanor, his size and looks typically intimidate people. As a result, Nikolai has very few friends or companions. He often tries hard to make friends, but fails frequently. This is a sensitive subject for him, as Nikolai will often get depressed over the fact he has no friends. To cure this sadness, he often spends time taking care of his Black owl Mikhail. However, despite his inward depression, he stays strong and kind to people in hopes they will reciprocate his actions.

History:

Nikolai is the son of a Scottish Professor at the University of Glasgow named William Blackstone. A kind man, he raised Nikolai with fatherly affection and encouragement in whatever Nikolai wished to pursue. William is even supportive of Nikolai's career in magic, though Mr. Blackstone is ignorant of the intricacies of the Wizard world. Nikolai's father is where Nikolai's size came from, as William Blackstone is even more massive. Overall, Nikolai's father is fairly normal and uninteresting.

Nikolai's mother is the parent of true interest. A Russian witch named Alexa Donavitch, she is the parent which has given Nikolai his magical heritage. Upon meeting William Blackstone, she fell heavily in love with him. Their chance encounter resulted in her pregnancy, whereupon she later went back to William in Glasgow and told him. He offered to marry her, and they were married within a few months. A few nights before the wedding, she revealed she was a witch, and demonstrated some magic for William. William, a physics professor, was shocked by what he saw. Unable to speak for several hours, he sat, staring out of a window. Finally he found her in his dining room, looking as if she had been crying. William accepted her magic, and they were married. After Nikolai was born, Alexa was a wonderful mother to him, always caring for him and looking after him, As he got older, she taught him of his magical heritage. Nikolai grew to be very close to his mother, as she often stayed home to look after him. She often entertained him with simple magic tricks that made him laugh for hours on end.

Unfortunately, Nikolai's childhood fell apart when he was seven. One day he woke up and his mother was simply not there. His father was equally baffled, and unable to find any sort of reason for her leaving, contacted the Scottish police. None of Alexa's things were gone, so she did not simply leave or flee her maternal responsibilities. The mystery of her disappearance haunts Nikolai even today. Once he leaves Hogwarts, he plans to search for her and figure out what happened to her.

Growing up, Nikolai was taught Sambo extensively by a Russian immigrant in Glasgow, explaining his physically prowess. He continually practices it at Hogwarts, though he lacks a training partner. As a result, his Sambo has gotten rusty, though he's still skilled.. To compensate this, he took several months of classes in karate, which does not necessitate a partner.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Nikolai fits very well in Gryffindor. Bravery is easily one of his best attributes. His fiery sense of justice supplement this courage.

Writing Sample:

Nikolai stepped down the hall with utter care for his fellow students, trying to avoid accidentally knocking into them. If he failed to pay attention, he could easily cause a smaller student to tumble over. With a sigh of relief, he arrived in his Defense Against the Dark Arts class and took a seat, his massive legs filling up the desk. Probably one of his favorite classes, he pulled out his textbook and turned it to the chapter they planned to discuss today. One of the first to the class, he watched the other students trickle in and each take their seats around him. One particularly clumsy girl named Olivia walked in and started to take her seat next to Nikolai. Like most others, she tended to be somewhat apprehensive towards Nikolai and tried not to talk to him for some inexplicable fear. However, as she went to take her seat, she suddenly slipped and fell, spilling all her books. Everyone in the class began to laugh except Nikolai, who stood up carefully and and moved to help Olivia up. He looked at her with deep concern and asked as gently as he could, "Are you okay?" She nodded with a bit of embarrassment and worry. Holding out his hand, he smiled at her. Slowly but surely, she grasped it back with a weak smile, allowing him to help her up. He leaned back down to pick up her books and things, handing them to her. She thanked him softly, sitting down as the attention slowly left her and Nikolai. Nikolai, though he had just done a good deed, felt somewhat miserable. "I was nice to her, but she seemed so...afraid of me...", he thought to himself. Maybe she'll be nicer from now on?" He turned to look at her for a moment. She happened to glance towards him. He threw up a gentle smile to her. She slowly smiled back; sincerely.
