Personality Description:
Wilton, for he has no nicknames or shortening of his name that he would agree to, is an excitable wizard who's excitement is contagious, but can put on an air of indifference when necessary. Sometimes a bit impulsive, he jumps into situations sometimes when he is not completely aware of all details, which can leave him with the 'lost in the headlights' look.
Not bumbling, but seen as a bit of a social misfit because of his views in pureblood circles, he is often seen as a "muggle loving fool"
History:Wilton Bertrand Wickwood was born on a cold late winter's evening during a fierce snowstorm. His mother, Eustice McNaughton, a pureblood witch from a cadet branch of House McKenzie Wilton's Father Seamus, an immigrant from Wizarding Ireland settled into Wales establishing the family in a second location as crafters of fine quality wands. This after having been run from Belfast for attempting to sell non-registered wands to underaged witches and wizards. Just before he entered Hogwarts, Wilton became a big brother to his sister Gwedolyn. When the Dark Lord came calling on the family business in 1978, Seamus refused the offer to join and become the personal wandmaker to the Death Eaters. Wilton received a notice of the deaths of his father, mother and his five year old sister during Charms class just weeks before taking his OWLs.. After completing his education at Hogwarts, Wilton fell into the family business under the tutelage of his Uncle Stephan. The Wickwood family was a lesser known name in the wand making business not having created as noteworthy (nor notorious) wands as Ollivanders. Stephan Wickwood was an aged man who could almost have been Wilton's Great-Grandfather rather than uncle. Stephan died when Wilton was only 22, just five years after he completed his Hogwarts education, and only 18 months after Wilton had completed his apprenticeship
After several years, at the age of 29, Wilton felt a need to get off on his own, so he left the main family business to his cousin Arnold (46), and packed his bags for adventure in the new world. Wilton then travelled for nearly seven years collecting wand ingredients in Africa, India and later Asia before settling in Belgium for a time. It was at this time that he learned French and Flemmish becoming fluent in both.
Two years later at the age of 38, while travelling in Norway, Wilton met Arianna Marsh, a Pureblooded witch eight years his junior from London. Through the manipulations of Adam and Vivienne Randall (nee Mckenzie), and odd circumstances the two became inseparable and a whirlwind romance later the two were married happily in a small German town. .
The last few years the two have travelled northern Europe with a side trip to the Americas for more wand ingredients, until a mysterious letter from his cousin changed his life and brought him and Anna back to London to the three story brownstone they bought shortly after they married to act as their long term home.
The disappearance of his cousin and family left Wilton as the proprietor of the family business located on a side street at the edge of Knockturn Alley but still in the main part of Diagon Alley, and an immense stock of wand materials and unique magical foci
What is your occupation? How do you go about it?
How did you get your current occupation?
How does your past and abilities justify your current skills?:
Having apprenticed under his Uncle, and run the business successfully for seven years before choosing to wander the globe looking for unique and 'special' ingredients for wands, Wilton inherited the family business from his Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather before that. Having received Outstanding in Transfiguration and an Outstanding with Distinction in Charms, Wilton was well prepared to begin the training to become a wandcrafter. Beginning with fashioning blanks from selected woods, then learning to prepare the magical foci.
Wilton's five year apprenticeship resulted in his qualifications under the Guild as WandCrafter First Class. He has never been given the distiction of Master WandCrafter by the guild due to a longstanding feud between the Wickwoods and Gregorovitch' over the wand making process which Gregorovitch claimed was his trade secret. As the feud was never settled, even after Gregorovitch was killed by the Dark Lord in 1997, the Guild has continued to withhold the title.
The Wickwood method of wandcraft relies more on selecting magical foci that compliment the witch or wizard through questioning their character and beliefs. Based upon the selected focus component a complimentary wand blank is then selected and crafted to final length. Unlike the amusing methods of Ollivander, a Wickwood wand is a perfect match every time because every wand is made to the exacting standards and fit of the witch or wizard themselves. This also means that other than preparing ingredients, and stocking many wand blanks, Wilton has many hours to devote to wand lore.
Writing Sample:
Show your character in a scene that illustrates the best and worst aspects
of their personality. Include action, dialog and thought.
Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Wilton, the sentimental, and sometimes oblivious one, seems to be a social outcast, yet is able through his ineptitude to gain confidence, and influence through subtlety. Frightfully loyal, and dedicated to both his craft, and to his family, and yet oblivious and somewhat foolhardy as he rushes into the frey. It is a good thing that Anna is a mediwitch as she has had to patch him up a few times, but mostly patching his bruised ego.
