[Sept 30] Fallen Papers [Gavin]

on December 12, 2009, 05:47:20 PM

Date: Tuesday Sept 30
When: During Gavin's free period.
Outfit: Link

It was near a month since the break up, and the fact they were broken up was still fresh in Nicola’s mind. She couldn’t get away from Gavin, he was a constant reminder of what she had lost all over something so stupid. She was attempting to make herself work and forget about him, spending time with Finn off school grounds and when on school grounds keeping her head down and doing her job. There was nothing to distract her and unfortunately that was a double edged sword. There was nothing to distract her from her work, but there was also nothing to distract her from missing Gavin each minute of each day. Nicola didn’t know what losing love felt like until now, and she wished she had never found out. Were having those moments of love worth it? She didn’t know anymore. Nicola felt like things were never going to be right again and she was always going to be in this state of depression. It was hard to a pessimistic to find the good side of life when they were so sure that everything was horrible and not going to fix itself.

Nicola was keeping busy today by running around collecting things her boss wanted. The good things about Analiza she always had something for Nicola to do. Perhaps if things were different she would find the overwhelming amount of work annoying and needless, but right now she relished in it. She liked having things to think about, even if Gavin managed to find away to creep into her mind. She wished they could just talk and get over this strangeness. Still Nicola did not think Gavin had any interest in taking her back. It was horrible love and hate someone so much, the emotions were so conflicting and sort of tearing her apart.

The sound of her flats shuffling along the corridor was all that could be heard, as students should be in class. For the most part people had things to do, and if they had no class then they weren’t around sitting in the corridors wasting time. Sometimes Nicola found the empty hallways in midday eerie, as she never really had the chance to experience them when she was a student herself as she always had places to be. Being at Hogwarts as a worker you tend to notice different things.

As she turned a corner the silence was ruined as she found herself being nearly run over by a student. Her things fell to the ground, and an annoyed groan left her lips. She watched as the student dashed off, not doubt late for class. Nicola was left to collect her things alone. She had to push back the lose fabric of her sweater, part of the new selection of clothing she had gathered due to Analiza thinking her attire unsuitable to where when working for hr. She honestly hoped when her boss saw her later this evening she would be pleased with it.

She had not realized she had so many papers until they were scattered around and she had to collect them.

Could anyone actually turn into a zombie? Gavin wasn't sure but he did know that his behavior for the past couple of weeks was anything but happy. It would be so much easier if Nicola wasn't around... If she just went back home and joined the Ministry like she was supposed to do then Gavin wouldn't have a constant reminder of how big of a jerk he was. He wanted space for he felt catastrophic all the time. Distancing himself from his friends didn't make things easier for him, it just made things less tolerable but he didn't change his ways. He was in a constant rut. It was bad enough that they broke up but he saw her all the time! Give a guy a break. He knew she was seeing some other guy and he was happy for her... she deserved a better man. He was too much of a snob and he broke every girl's heart. Who wanted to be in a relationship with him anyway?

Well, Gavin wasn't sure she was with this guy exclusively but he knew she would visit him every once in a while. One of the girls in Slytherin mentioned she used to have a thing with this "man" named Finn. Already Gavin hated this guy just because he was spending his time with Gavin's ex-girlfriend. But, he shouldn't be jealous. After all, they were over. Every once in a while a girl would catch Gavin' eye and they would flirt for a moment but that was it. All he could really see was Nicola in the back of his mind. Why didn't his friends stop him when they knew he was getting serious? Girls were so cruel... Gavin knew he couldn't wallow in his own misery forever. When was it going to end?

It was a free period for Gavin so he looked around for his friends to see if they could go outside to do something before the winter started to run its course. The cold didn't really bother him but he hated the loud kids running around throwing snowballs at each other. If they thought for one moment that they could hit Gavin... Then they got another thing coming. Giving up on looking for the boys, Gavin went inside. He headed for the common room to find something entertaining. Maybe he would try to move on. Nicola sure had.

Turning the corner, Gavin saw a third year boy run right into a girl holding a bunch of papers. What an idiot. If Gavin was in a better mood he would run after the man and punch him right in the mouth. Teach him a lesson. Analiza didn't bring up Gavin to be rude. Without thinking, or actually looking, he started to help the girl with all the papers. Maybe he could actually talk to this girl and have a decent conversation. Maybe she could be his next prey. He collected all of her papers and stood up. He froze.

At first he didn't know what to say to his ex-girlfriend, who was standing right in front of him. She looked beautiful but the outfit wasn't her style. He knew Nicola all too well. She probably wore it to impress Analiza. Gavin would need to talk to his sister about the pressure Nicola was under. Nic never changed for anyone...

"Er. Let me get that for you." he said while he grabbed the rest of the paperwork out of her hands. Now the third year was defiantly going to get a beating.

At least someone still had a bit of decency in them, which she had to admit was a tad surprising. She was about to say thank you and looked to see if she knew the face from last year. She knew the face better than she would have expected. Nicola knew the face of Gavin well, she had spent some mornings watching him sleep and memorized things like the shape of his nose or the part of his lips. Nicola closed her eyes for a second as she remembered his lips she missed kissing him, but that paled in comparison to how much she missed Gavin’s company.

“Thank you,” the words stuttered out. She wanted to smack herself for sound so pathetic and stupid. She thought she was making head way to being over him. Yeah right, she was nowhere near getting over Gavin, she still loved him and she wished she could stop. She luckily had a support system like Finn and work to throw herself into. Sure she was wearing clothes she hated but she looked at it like a uniform, she had to dress to represent him.

She stood still just looking at him as he took the paperwork. “How are you?” She asked nervously. Stupid question he was probably just as crappy as she was. Nicola barely slept; it was only due to being over tired she did much sleeping. Nicola also slept over at Finn’s finding the company helped calm her. Admittedly she felt bad for forcing Finn to the couch but it was nice of him.

How was he? Was she really going to ask him that question? Maybe it was a way to start the conversation but Nicola didn’t know what she was walking into. Gavin couldn't begin to explain how he felt, just seeing her made his mind numb. All he could do was stare at her like a loser and try to speak clearly. Was he nervous? Of course he was. He hadn't been face-to-face with Nicola since the day they fought. They may have been in the same room but he never spoke to her or really looked at her direction, when she was looking.

The need to grab her hand was intense but he overcame it by taking a step backwards. It wasn't meant to be hurtful but he had to keep his distance. She was over him; at least he thought she was. He wanted her to be over him. No matter how selfish Gavin was, he knew Nicola was better off with someone else.

"I'm fine, breathing you know. You?" This was a depressing conversation. Nervously, Gavin raised his hand to scratch his head and then proceeded to put it in his pocket. What a day. First he woke up late and now this. Usually Gavin and Nicola's conversations were better than this but that happens when you break up with someone. He let out a deep sigh and looked around. "Where are you going anyway? I can help carry this stuff for you if you like. It's the least I can do..." He didn't want to just do that, he wanted to kiss her and tell her that she was his again. But this wasn't a fairytale. They both hurt each other.

As he took a step back Nicola felt crushed, but the need to be closer to him made her move forward. She missed him, she really did. She didn’t feel right without being in his arms. The day didn’t start right without a kiss from Gavin. The day didn’t end well without a kiss good night and a hug. Nicola needed him, and the fact she needed him so badly concerned her but she couldn’t deny the fact she did. She loved him a no matter how had she had tried this month the fact was not changing.

“Been okay. Working.” She said motioning to the papers, obviously she had been working, but she chose to leave out everything else. She left out the tears she continued to cry when she didn’t think Finn or anyone would notice. She had dreams of being back with him only to find that when she woke life was not back to normal and it was still all messed up. The break up was not easy all because she took this job. Heck they would be together if she hadn’t taken it in the first place.

“At least I have my work to keep me busy,” she paused and looked at Gavin. “I am headed to Ana’s office.” She wanted to reach for his hand and hold it. She took a few steps towards him and desperately wanted to take his hand. She reached for his hand her fingertips only brushing his hand before she pulled it away. Even that bit of contact made her hurt. He didn’t want her anymore.

Yeah Gavin was stupid but he was only a boy. After feeling Nicola's fingertips touching his palm, he couldn't help but grasp her hand firmly in his. He knew it would hurt him later but what else was he supposed to do? He couldn't let her get away. After a few moments of holding her hand, he let go and once more took another step away from her. He didn't miss what had happened before when she moved closer to him, he took notice on that but he couldn't deny the fact that they needed space from each other. Why did Nicola have to make things difficult? Why did she have to be here? Her being here wasn't the worst thing that could happen but he hated the constant reminder of what could have been.

He completely ignored what she was saying for he couldn't stop looking at her face. There was no denying the fact that Nicola was depressed but what could he do to help her? He didn't want to be with her after all the stories he was hearing about Finn. Why did she always have to find someone to comfort her? First Kyle, now Finn? Gavin knew that she would be hurt if he told her this but wasn't it the truth?

After a long pause Gavin remembered the last part of what Nic said to him. "Oh right, Ana's office. Ever since I got to Hogwarts I barely spoken to my own sister, can you believe that? Either she is really busy or she hates me." said Gavin. He wanted to make a joke out of it but Nicola probably wouldn't see the humor. Gavin hated thinking about emotional matters. Ever since the death of his parents he didn't want to get involved with people, they would only leave him in the end.
