    About You, the Writer:
    Your Nickname: Zira
Have you read and do you agree to the Code of Conduct & Guidelines?:Yup.
How did you find us and decide to write with us? Via Mai.
If you have written other characters here, list them all: Erin Harper, Hannah Harper, Darian Morgan, Michael Dark, and Kayla Austin. See siggy for profile links.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: I have combined the Criminal and the Other Witches/Wizards application, because Landis is both.*

Full Character Name: Landis Rue Morgan
    Character Birthday & Age: December 22th, 1984. Currently 26.
City & Country of Birth: Newport, Wales
    Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn?: Pureblood
    Alma Mater: Hogwarts
Occupation Hogwarts librarian and Head of Slytherin House, as well as a criminal, somewhat-tutor, enforcer, recruiter, and spy.

    Crime
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Type of Criminal: The kind that's paid well.

Allegiances / Loyalties / Political Faction: His loyalties lie primarily with himself, then to the WBA. Currently he is also employed by Kronos Malvivicus and Vedir Prideaux.

Previous Convictions or Crimes?: No convictions, although plenty of crimes. Landis is impeccably careful to keep his record clean, or at least careful about not getting caught.

If yes, please explain. Landis has very few morals. Everything from murder to tax fraud's the same to him.

In-game (completed or ongoing) crimes: Landis was involved with the Imperiusing of Ava Grosvenor in Febuary, acting on Cináed's behalf. During the summer of '09 he led an attack on St. Mungo's with a couple of Imperio'd accomplices, injuring dozens and inspiring panic on the WBA's behalf through the careful application of potions explosions and chain reactions. This summer, also in the WBA's name, he engaged in blackmail and bribery, threatening notes and packages, and general P.R. He accepted a job from Vedir Prideaux as a Hydra operative at Hogwarts, and is working for Kronos Malvivicus as a private tutor of unsavory magic to Sasha Schlagenweit.

What crimes might you commit in the future?  Discuss all possible: Landis is determined to work his way up through the (admittedly still small) ranks of the WBA. Not a convicted criminal, and still possessing his wand, Landis will do anything he thinks is necessary to promote the WBA, and anything he thinks is necessary to promote himself.

But recently as the WBA's presence has waned, Landis has become restless. Although he's done his part in the organization and continues to work for their betterment, he has also begun to look for other profitable opportunities. The WBA has his loyalty, but now Vedir Prideaux pads his wallet. He will do whatever is asked of him to do; he has no problem with murder or torture or any other sort of crime.

Are you currently under pursuit by the Ministry of Magic?: No. The Ministry of Magic is thus far completely unaware of any illegal activities he’s participated in. He keeps a number of pre-brewed polyjuices on hand, made with the hair of muggles. He makes more on a steady basis, as the old potions expire and they take a month to brew. Landis is extremely, extremely careful; he covers his tracks and he bides. Having worked in the Ministry helps a little too. He’s familiar with some of the ways that the Unspeakables work, although not the Aurors.

    Profession
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

What is your occupation? How do you go about it? How did you get your current occupation? How does your past and abilities justify your current skills?: Before coming to work at Hogwarts, Landis was an employee in the Department of Mysteries. He worked there for three years, originally as a clerk in the records section, then transferred for his last two years into Experimental Potions. As one might expect from an ex-Unspeakable, he is ruthlessly efficient, naturally cool-headed, capable of working well within time limits or under stress, and possesses an excellent memory for facts. He spent some time in training when he caught wind that the Hogwarts librarian was retiring so that he could apply immediately when the spot opened up.

He doesn’t particularly like children, but as long as they’re quiet and polite he will return the favor of basic courtesy. Landis is strongly biased towards his own House. Considering he was a student when Snape was teaching, he expects he can get away with the occasional preferentiality. It helps that he was hired by Analiza Snark, who also happened to be his previous boss at the DoM.

Wand Description: Ivy with a dragon heartstring- 11 inches, smooth and rather rigid. From Ollivander's.

    Physical description
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Landis is not the type of man one would call conventionally attractive, though in the right light (and without the scowl) he could certainly be described as striking. He has a hard face, high cheekbones, and a thin mouth; his narrow eyes are blue and lined with perpetual deep bags. He keeps his blond hair clipped just below his shoulders and dresses very well. He prefers well-tailored suits and does not do "casual." No one will ever catch him wearing jeans.

While he retains some muscle mass, Landis has lost any softness in his body that he might once have possessed. His shoulders stay tight, and the skin stretched taut over his face makes him look to be made of stone. His cheekbones are as cutting as his remarks, and the bags under his eyes - the only fleshy part about him - are immediately prominent. As he's gotten older the angles of his body have become progressively harsher. While his face is no less smooth than it was in his early twenties, it is a great deal more gaunt. This is due in no small part to his poor sleeping and eating habits - that is to say, he does not partake in much of either, and it shows.

    Personality
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Landis is emotionally distant and frequently cold. He is dispassionate in the extreme, calculating in most situations, and it is the mark of those who know him well - or now, live in a castle with him nine months out of the year - that get to see him in the grips of any obvious emotion at all besides simple things like arrogance or mild irritation. Even growing up, he preferred solitude to the company of others. While he could pretend to be interested in the same sorts of things that his classmates were, he rarely found any profit or intellectual stimulation in doing so. As an adult, he adopted a similar view. He has no patience for fools and, while perfectly capable of social pleasantries, rarely engages in them. That is not to say he is not professional - he prides himself on his professionalism, and prefers to remain on neutral grounds with his colleagues, employers, and contacts if possible rather than having an overly friendly or unfriendly relationship with any of them.

However, he is also extremely judgmental and possesses a caustic tongue to match his unpleasant personality. While he will not confront someone merely because they seem too stupid to live, he does not hesitate to attack when provoked.

While he's not impossible to befriend, Landis has high expectations. He admires competence and intelligence more than anything else; a quick wit will win his favor. He appreciates ambition in others as well as good manners, a courtly holdover from his pureblood background. He respects those in positions of authority who handle it well, individuals like Analiza Snark and Ignan Storm, and is unexpectedly loyal to those he deems worthy of his regard. However, he tends to keep even his friendly relationships distant, preferring not to put himself in a weaker emotional position by becoming dependent on the opinion or well-being of any of his friends.

There are exceptions to this self-imposed distance. He is, to the two or three people with hooks in his heart, fiercely protective, surprisingly accepting, and dependable as a rock. Landis dislikes being so attached to anyone. For a man so ruthless and rational, who has so carefully weaned hot-headed impulse from his life, the knowledge that for these few people he would do or give up anything is extremely unwelcome.

    History
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

The marriage of Marc Harper and Brianna Morgan was celebrated by no one much but the newlyweds themselves. Brianna, whose bloodline could be traced back over five hundred years, took the only risk in her barren life by marrying the ministry worker with Muggle grandparents. The rest of the Morgan family found that difficult to ignore.

The Morgan family is old, proud, and extremely tight-knit; all it took was a couple of years out in the cold, and Brianna began to measure her husband against what she'd given up. Her quiet dissatisfaction with the changes in her lifestyle grew exponentially throughout the years, and by the birth of their third child she was more than dissatisfied - she was bitter.

Landis was their first son, and with his birth Brianna was allowed access again to her kin. He was raised with Morgan cousins and Morgan aunts. There was little Harper influence in his childhood, the price paid by his mother for forgiveness.

His school years were characterized by the development of the clean, solemn child to the methodical, cunning man. The war gave him caution, quick-thinking, a steady wand - but his close association with Dazmond Wiedman and Dolly St. James taught him teasing, quick-talking, and proper teenage rebellion. Aloof as a cat and twice as prideful, Landis nevertheless let them both under his skin and into his trust. This was a mistake. They never left.

He was the Slytherin prefect for his last years in school. Naturally, Dazmond and Dolly took advantage of this. (He didn't mind all that much.)

Meanwhile the Morgan family was filling out at an alarming rate. Every generation tended to be large, and this showed in an explosion of younger cousins and siblings speckled throughout his school years. His time at home became less pleasant as his younger brother grew; teens and toddlers seldom mixed well, and Erin was mischievous, prone to tantrums, and frequently sticky. All he wanted to do was spend time with Landis and - if possible - set his hair on fire. Landis was naturally opposed. Their distaste for one another became malicious, Landis nurturing a streak of viciousness against Erin's constant indomitable attacks. The rivalry escalated as their parents' marriage fell apart.

After his graduation from Hogwarts Landis began to seriously study the Dark Arts, an interest nurtured early in school under the tender mercies of the Death Eaters. Searching for something quite intangible to him, he took to lurking down Knockturn and the unsavory places in the Muggle world, contemptuous of those surrounding him even as he sought to find a purpose. He built up some contacts, dabbled in minor crimes, and rekindled a relationship with Dolly St. James. Their first fumblings at school had been unsatisfying, merely stilted comfort after poor endings with other people; this second attempt was infinitely worse, vicious and unhappy. It met its inevitable end, poisoning their friendship.

Landis gained employment in the Department of Mysteries, working first in the Records section and later moved to Experimental Potions. The job satisfied his secretive nature and intellect, and he enjoyed the opportunity to brew. Then Landis met Cináed and became involved in the WBA. With something to work towards, perfectly suited to his opinions, his ambitions, his needs, Landis thrived. He worked hard. And he is still working. He is adaptable, efficient, and confident in his own abilities. Wherever he's put, he'll rise. Had it not been decided that he’d be put to better use to the WBA at Hogwarts in the vacated post of the Librarian, he doubtless would have gone far in the DeM - but the wizarding world's children all reside in only one place, and needs must when the devil drives. Landis likes to be necessary.

    Summation
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Cold, calculating, and able to think on his feet, Landis is quick to assess situations and turn them to his own advantage. He has an amazing amount of ambition and the ruthlessness to see it through. While his ambition might sometimes be said to be more of a lust for power, Landis is extremely careful of his steps and extremely careful not to let his emotions get the better of him. Sometimes this impeccable care makes him seem overly cautious, or even too indecisive to make a move, but Landis prefers to try and consider every possible outcome of his actions. He has plenty of patience and is willing to wait for years for things to come together in his favor, taking on any position that’s necessary: efficient underling, sharp-eyed recruiter, trusted second lieutenant. Hogwarts librarian. Not surprisingly, he’s a very good chess player. Were he not the librarian, he’d also make a very good lawyer, or a very good shark.

Landis Morgan: Slytherin Head of House application

    Reply #2 on March 05, 2010, 10:24:57 PM

    Accepted! ~Elle

    [Character Name:]Landis Morgan
[Title Applying For:]Slytherin Head of House
    [Link to Accepted Biography:] http://absitomen.com/index.php?topic=3499.0

[How Has Your Past Prepared You For This Honor?:] As the judge of this application may know, I was a prefect in my fifth year at Hogwarts. This wasn’t so long ago as it could be and yes, I know I’m young, but simply put, I remember those duties all the better for the few years between that position and this one. Said duties are somewhat similar- largely the difference is the advanced responsibility of the Head of House position, responsibility I’ve been trained to handle in the high-performance workplace of the Unspeakables. Having worked under Analiza Snark during her time there, I’m also accustomed to her style of leadership and expectations of her employees.

[What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:? Why, to be there for the students, of course. Slytherin house has no one to lead it, no one to protect its own interests, and, most importantly, no one for the students to go to if they have need of it. By neglecting to appoint a head for the house which traditionally has had the worst reputation, the children of that house are neglected a necessary protector, mentor, and guide. As I’m not a professor, and therefore have no classes to plan, nor a set, inflexible schedule, I can be much more readily available for the students under my care.

[Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:]Well, stories from my old workplace are right out, aren’t they? And I assume talk of my prefect duties is getting old. As mundane as this is, I rather think the sheer fact that I’m the eldest of three siblings, with a large enough age difference between my two younger (and excitable) siblings and myself to constitute multiple cases of babysitting, mentoring, and other associated tasks. There was the time I had to Stupefy a cave troll to prevent its gnawing on my younger brother, or the unfortunate incident with my sister and that hag at the mouth of Knockturn alley- my life is entirely made up of stories that prove my mettle in preventing reckless children from becoming permanently maimed or traumatized.

Special Ability Request: Landis Morgan, Animagi

    Reply #3 on December 16, 2012, 01:46:28 AM

    Special Ability

    Character Name: Landis Morgan
    Age: 26
    Character Biography: http://absitomen.com/index.php?topic=3499.0
Do any of your other Characters have Special Abilities?: Yes
If Yes, then Please provide their name and a link to their bio: Michael Dark is a metamorph, but he's inactive and on the fast track to retirement. His bio is here.

    Special Ability: Animagi

What level is this ability at?: Beginner

At what age did your character gain this ability?: 26

How did they learn or hone this ability?:
Landis began interested in learning to become an animagus at age 24. At the time he was an Unspeakable and able to access some of the Department of Mysteries records on animagus transformation. However, given his distaste for revealing his hand by talking to those who had already mastered the ability - and not wanting to register and learn through Ministry-approved means - it was not until his hiring at Hogwarts that he had access to the resources to facilitate his transformation. I have listed him at beginner level because although he is finished with the research and magical preparation components he has not yet successfully transformed.

Describe how the Special Ability influences their life.  What do they use it for?:
Landis is an intensely secretive and paranoid man who primarily sees this ability as a potential way of avoiding detection in his endeavors or providing a means of escape should he be captured. He has become convinced that he will be much safer once he learns this ability. He hopes too that his animagus form will be one with which he can  gather information, lurk in dark corners, etc., but this is secondary to his first objective of ensuring his own skin.

Write a description of what happens when your character is exhibiting this Special Ability: When Landis does succeed in transforming he will take the form of a spider, specifically the noble false widow spider found in the UK. He will have their distinctive pale abominable patterning and an extremely painful, though nonlethal, bite. The effects on others include suffering from this bite as well as the potentiality of eavesdropping, but any effects would only come with the permission of the writers involved.
