Physical Description:
Maeve has an ethereal appearance, with long, flowing blonde hair and crystalline blue-green eyes. It's not unusual for she and her younger sister (who looks very much like her) to be likened to fairies or even angels, especially by their father. Like many of the other Whitman and Grumman women, Maeve is petite in stature, standing at 5'5".  While she is on the slim side, she is not completely lacking in curves. Though she is diminutive in physical size, one would never know it because she carries herself like she rules the world or like she is entitled to everything.

She refuses to go out into the world without being immaculately put together and this includes everything from make up on her peaches and cream complexion, the way she wears her long blonde hair, or even the clothes and accessories she wears. In this regard, she can be quite vain and obsessive about the way that she presents herself. Her clothing is always trendy and fashionable and she does love to play with color. Her only rule when dressing is that she look good. Though she's not a fan of the drab school uniform, Maeve does adore the Slytherin house colors and will wear them with pride. Even when she's not in uniform, usually she will still wear something green.

Personality Description:
It can be easy to pass Maeve off as a blonde bimbo upon first meeting her and her look serves as an adequate disguise for her true demeanor and intentions, many of which she has been content to keep dormant. She is skilled at giving others the impression that all she wants to be when she's done with school is a world traveler and rich socialite. But when it comes to her interests and what betters her position in life, she is as sharp as a tack. Chances are, those who underestimate her have never really been the victim of her ruthless, manipulative and often vindictive nature.

This nature may appear to have superficial and pointless motives. But for years, her unspoken goal was to become the Queen Bee of Hogwarts, something she has finally been successful at with the start of the seventh year. As Queen Bee, she rules the school through intimidation, contempt and her sex appeal. Herein lies the root of most of her strengths and weaknesses as both a person and also as a witch. As much as her vanity, self indulgence and conceit can work in her favor, it can easily stand in her way as well. And just as others are prone to underestimating her, Maeve often falls victim to it just as much.

Maeve is not completely superficial in her socialization with others, but it is very rare for anyone to know her true self. Usually when she is smiling, she is genuinely in a good mood. She is capable of being friendly and does consider herself to have friendships, although usually they are ones that offer some mutual benefit, advantage or alliance. Because these friendships tend to hold very little sentimental value, Maeve is not above exploiting them, with no fear of the consequences. Understandably, her haughty and emotionally unavailable persona can be a turn off to others.

Maeve is very traditional in regards to her values about blood purity, stemming from her meticulously documented family background. The Whitmans have never minded "loveless" marriages for the sake of achieving this. Maeve will interact with Muggle-borns or Half-bloods (and for the most part, does not hold that against them unless they give good cause), but she is staunch in her belief that she will marry a fellow pureblood and continue the "legacy". She is straightforward with her liasons in this regard and in many ways, firmly believes that love is not an option for her.

Maeve Aerona means "intoxicating berry" and in many ways, this does seem to fit the type of person that she is.  For good or for bad, she has the uncanny ability of seeping under a person's skin.

History:
Maeve Aerona Grumman Whitman has dynamic pureblood roots on both sides of her family tree. Her father is Joshua Whitman, from the straight-laced, well respected and nary-a-blemish-to-their-name Whitman family. The family hails from Wales and many members serve in the Ministry of Magic or other respectable professions. By contrast, her mother's family, the Grumman's, hail from Siberia (Russia) and have often been mentioned as devoted followers of Voldemorte, and more generally, The Dark Arts.  Her mother, Eloise, along with her uncle, Orfeo, were graduates of Durmstrang, and the latter was even suspected to be a Death Eater, although it has never been wholly confirmed.

Part of the reasoning behind the match between her parents (and also between her uncle and his wife) was so that the Grummans could marry into families which would essentially minimize the link to the Dark Lord in the years following his initial demise. For the most part, they were successful in this endeavor and Maeve was born not long after her parents married in 1991. A younger sister and brother were also born in subsequent years. All seemed to be well and positively perfect in the Whitman household but it wasn't long before Jos began to pick up on the ulterior motives of his in-laws. Jos did his best to distance the family from the darkness of the Grummans.

Luckily, though Maeve was fascinated by that heritage, she was easily distracted by the richness of the Whitman lifestyle, which had for generations been predicated on seeking wealth, prestige and the maintainence of their blood purity.

When Maeve enrolled in Hogwarts, she was sorted into Slytherin House, something that greatly unnerved her father (as for the most part, his branch of the family tree had been Ravenclaw). Intitially, Maeve was ambivalent to the sorting and looked to be going through classes with a bored expression on her face. But as the years have gone by, clearly even she has seen the reasoning for her placement. There is a darkness that is there and has the potential to manifest itself like some of her relatives, but so far it's been quite harmless. Picking on mudbloods or other poor unfortunate souls, dueling with enemies and dabbling in romance has been the life of a young Queen Bee in the making.

In her seventh year, Maeve became THE Queen Bee and she was intent on ruling the social scene at school. By mid year, she was still terrorizing many of her classmates with the likes of Kitty Lee, but she began to start looking ahead to life beyond school. Under the mentorship of History of Magic Professor Hildegarde Austerlitz, Maeve considered how to best use her love of wizarding history.

After graduation, she interned in the Ministry of Magic, thanks to family connections but ultimately decided to pursue an idealistic dream of hers - Museum Curating.

How Do You Fit Into Your House?:
Aside from being from pure wizard blood on both sides of her family, Maeve also exhibits the favored Slytherin traits of cunning and ambition, although at times it doesn't seem readily apparent. Despite her somewhat conceited and ditzy exterior, she is quite bright. It's not that she doesn't care about school or what she's being taught; She is merely waiting for the day when she may most effectively put it all to better use. Even if the end goal isn't mapped out just yet, she is fine achieving it through whatever means necessary.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
She is the magical world's equivalent to Paris Hilton, only smarter and with more malevolent ambitions.

Career Change Request

Character Name: Maeve Whitman

Previous Job/Position: Hogwarts Student/Unemployed
Position Applying For: Curatorial Aide, Division of Pureblood Geneology (National Museum of Wizarding History)

Why have you chosen to change careers?: Following graduation, she really didn't have an exact position in mind. Previously she had discussed with Professor Austerlitz the possibility of interning at the Ministry of Magic as a means of really doing something worth while with her love for History of Magic. Maeve eventually decided to pursue the course that her former professor shot down --- museum curating.

Elaborate on your expertise in this new field: Despite her reputation in school for being less of an academic, Maeve excelled in the subject of History of Magic. One might even be so bold to say that she was the best (or at least the most dedicated) of anyone in her year. Growing up as a member of the prestigious Whitman Family has its advantages in that regard. She has access to an amazing wealth of historical information, lovingly kept by some of her ancestors. Notably, her great grandmother, Marie Kerry, was a staunch supporter of preserving records of wizarding history, specifically those which involved its pureblooded families (many to which the Whitmans are connected). This devotion to history is what Maeve wishes to continue.

Describe your new job and how you go about doing it: Even though she has a title (mainly through the influence of her grandmother), because she is just starting out in the field, Maeve will mostly be working with the full time, experienced curators or historians (like Fiona Marren), assisting them with their day-to-day functions on the job. For the ones who do not care much about her growth and development as a curator, this may very well mean that she will be their lackey, doing menial administrative tasks that have very little to do with their hands on work. Others may allow her to do other things such as: assist in organizing events and exhibits, give tours through the museum, help restore artifacts and documents, or take on heavy involvement in researching. Eventually, she may be allowed to put together exhibits based on her research, presenting them in an interesting manner to the general public. Currently, she has declared pureblood history, artifacts and documents as her areas of focus when researching and likely any presentations will come from findings in these areas.
