Full Character Name: Demelza Ophelia Boskonovitch
Character Birthday & Age: 2nd of October 1986 | 22 Years of Age
City & Country of Birth: Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England
Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn?: Halfblood
Alma Mater: Ravenclaw, Hogwarts
Occupation: Professional Thief
Type of Criminal: Demelza considers herself a 'professional thief'; solo diamond heists, breaking and entering and helping herself to valuable wizarding artefacts.
Allegiances / Loyalties / Political Faction: Demelza prefers to work alone, that way, she could never be set-up. Since she works below the law, she considers herself 'apolitical' in that a criminal should never comment upon a governmental system that they evade.
Previous Convictions or Crimes?: Aiding an attempted robbery
If yes, please explain. A failed attempt at breaking Gringotts was uncovered, and whilst Demelza was not present when the foolish troupe were caught in the wizarding bank, she'd provided the team invaluable information and instruments. After questioning by the Ministry, it was deemed that there was 'insufficient evidence' to give Demelza a full conviction, yet she's always remained (and wholly avoided) the law's radar. This dangerous brush with the Ministry caused Demelza to work alone.
What crimes might you commit in the future? Discuss all possible:- Breaking into homes, museums and vaults that hold expensive objects and/or money.
- Being hired by others to steal; a 'commissioned job'.
Are you currently under pursuit by the Ministry of Magic?: No, although several incidents suggest that Demelza was involved, she's too careful to allow enough evidence for a conviction. However, she remains on their radar.
Wand Description: 11", Mahogany, Siren's Vocal Chord
Physical Description: Demelza stands at a medium height of 5'6, and is slim with it. Training herself rigorously for squeezing into areas that only a thief could fit in, she is fit and healthy to the point of obsession. Despite this, her thighs remain on the fuller side and whilst her figure could be considered curvaceous, she is keen to avoid putting on weight for occupational reasons.
Facially, Demelza has never been considered conventionally beautiful. Her features are large; circular eyes, a rather large nose and full, thick lips. Her swagger and charm is what attracts some men to her, and her harsh features are typically Eastern European. Her eyes are bright blue and her skin is somewhat pale, yet it'd be incorrect to surmise Demelza's countenance as 'pretty'. Not particularly bothered by this fact, she often wears a thick-set application of make-up: her eyelids are heavily painted black, her eyelashes are long (often the cause of cosmetic potions) and her lips are always coloured red, black, blue or some other outlandish, garish colour.
Despite her occupation as a 'professional thief', Demelza's outfits are daring, flirtatious and edgy; she loves fashion that pushes the thresholds and can often be seen in futuristic (and often disliked) ensembles. Her shirts are usually ridiculously angled at the shoulders, and her penchant for tight-fitting dresses and the colour black only cement the stereotypical, stealthy look of midnight thieves. She has many staple items; thigh-high boots, leggings and sunglasses (a favourite of hers), and they all add to her bombastic, enigmatic persona.
Personality Description: Demelza is charming, witty and somewhat boyish, with an endlessly crude sense of humour and a tinge of vulgarity. Her loud and garish behaviour has unsettled many a middle-class wizard, and Demelza only acts up even more if somebody openly criticises her.
A hard-working attitude placed her in Ravenclaw, and whilst determined, she is endlessly materialistic and judges those around her on criminal reputation and more importantly, material possession. This highlights her greedy side, and Demelza's cutthroat attitude nearly got her into Slytherin yet her tomboyish wit prevented this from happening.
Being resourceful is a prequisite of her job, and she thrives under pressure, yet this has led to selfishness and unless it was somebody very close, Demelza wouldn't think twice about placing a companion in the hot water if she was threatened.
History: Demelza's father, Gustav Boskonovitch, was a pureblood that united two wizarding families in Germany and the Ukraine, and Demelza often boasts of her Soviet-German heritage. Aphylius moved to England with his family during his teenage years and met Rosaberta Hill, a halfblood at Hogwarts. Dating and eventually marrying Rosaberta, Gustav was instantly disowned by the Boskonovitch family: a halfblood would only taint the grand union of two internationally renowned families.
Demelza, the only child of Gustav and Rosaberta, was a troublesome 'problem' child that acted out at every family event on her mother's side and was constantly grounded. It was always a given that Demelza would go to Hogwarts, and whilst she saved her rebellious streak for students' free time, she was popular within Ravenclaw for all the wrong reasons; a mild bully, loud, competitive and keen to ridicule those around her. On a plus, she often charmed her housemates (or at least the ones she considered popular) and was known for being the class clown. Her grades were commendable however, yet a lack of concentration let her down. Despite academically succeeding, Demelza knew that a desk job was not for her.
During Snape's years at Hogwarts, Demelza remained in the school thanks to her heritage, although her parents were less than pleased with the system under the former Slytherin. Often on the wrong sides of the Carrows and Snape himself, little Miss Boskonovitch was not well liked by her superiors and those she teased, often referring to her as 'Demelza BoskonoBitch'.
Swinging around in less than desirable circles, Demelza fell into a life of partying and clubbing after Hogwarts, living off her parents in a small flat down Diagon Alley and enjoying the carefree life of a party girl. One faithful night however, Demelza and a few others broke into a shop (whilst intoxicated, of course) and as a security alarm went off, the group scattered except for Demelza, who proceeded to grab as many valuables as possible before escaping. The thrill of the hunt and her adept skill of picking the treasure and casting away the trash ultimately led her to pursue this less-than-orthodox career. And as they say, the rest is history. Stealing her way up the food chain, Demelza has made quite the reputation for herself.
Writing Sample:The vault was silent, the stone circular door preventing any intruders as always. The dim lighting from the floating candles provided the only source of illumination in the vast room, the light dancing off the piles of galleons, goblets, jewels, statues, idols, caskets, crowns and spectres. All was silent. All was safe. All was well.
Was safe.
A crack appeared in the circular door, slowly working its way down the central panel of the large, heavy entrance. Although silent, the fault grew and grew until the once tiny crack became a network of lines and creases throughout the door. A slight tapping noise was heard momentarily, echoing throughout the room, culminating in an unsteady, unsafe silence. Immediately, the cracks seperated the door, with it falling into the room in hundreds of tiny pieces of grey stone. Scattering and clattering on the floor leaving a circular, empty doorway, Demelza Zhang stood there with a grin on her face, wand carefully in hand and with a tall male co-conspirator. She dressed in a black leotard with oblong, structured shoulders and long sleeves, black flat-soled thigh high boots and a pair of large, circular bug-eye sunglasses on her face; her style was unique and always dynamic.
Seeing the pile of amazing treasures in front of her, she gasped, placing a dramatic hand to her painted black lips. Taking a few steps forward, she turned to her companion, who smiled a toothy grin at the distrustul muse, his eyes full of greed, glee and glitter.
"Just, look, at, that," she whispered, smiling, biting her bottom lip as she gripped her wand tightly. Now that is treasure.
Whenever she saw a fresh, untouched stockpile of the wealthy, Demelza couldn't help but feel excited. She'd broken into this countryside manor seven minutes ago; she'd bypassed the magical security, defaced the moving portraits, navigated the house and broken the vault door. It ran like clockwork. It always did.
Taking a few steps forward, she nodded at her accomplice who set to work with his wand like she did; spinning it at several objects, the galleons and treasures flew around the room and eventually finding their way into a small black bag attached to their belts. Despite the smallness of the bag, they were bottomless in that they could hold no matter what; oh the joys of being a magical burgular.
Venturing around the room, she did not pay her accomplice much heed, eyeing up the valuables as they wooshed around the room, kicking the less than desirable items and infrequently looking back at the door. Security was everything. Giving her accomplice (a random man that wanted in on her act; she needed at least one other to grant her access past the intricate securities of the manor house), she bit her bottom lip as he opened a silver casket.
"No!" she cried out and immediately lunged torwards him, hoping to dispel his attempts. Alas, it was too late, and as he opened the box, it triggered the alarm. She could've seen it a mile off. The spinning, flying treasures crashed to the floor in an instant and Demelza gave a frustrated scream, running towards the doorway as every portrait in the house began to shriek a deafening wail.
"Fool!" Demelza shouted and the accomplice, a tall, gangly fellow, panicked, dropping his bag and countless galleons falling from its bottomless pit.
"What do we do?!" he asked, and Demelza sighed.
"You stay here, I'll trigger the emergency door," she explained heading towards the doorway, the accomplice taking the expert's advice. Standing in the doorway, she turned to him and smiled.
"See ya," she said with a mocking grin, flicking her wand and sending the unassuming wizarding across the room in a blaze of green light. Running up the corridor, she smiled at her own cruel nature, the pieces of the door in the vault instantly flying back into place in the doorway. The vault door was intact once more, securing the accomplice inside as he screamed, the family awake and the aurors presumably on the way.
Demelza could only smile as she made her escape. Life could be so cruel.
Sum up your character in one paragraph: Charming yet cruel, witty yet selfish, resourceful yet eccentric, Demelza is a truly mixed individual with many sides and a penchant for the illegal. Her day-to-day life is limited, yet nocturnally, her name has became quite well known yet she's always managed to escape a real conviction.
