Physical Description:Grace's overall look and features rarely have her standing out in a crowd and that's how she likes it. She has an athlete's body and proportional curves sculpted from years of physical activity. She clearly underestimates her beauty and is fine that it usually dubs her as being 'cute', seeing as she'd have no idea how to react to being considered more than that.
Despite this, Grace is blessed with a face that can be described as classically beautiful. She has a fair complexion with dimpled cheeks, a smattering of freckles, full lips and piercing and yet also surprisingly compassionate (or empathetic) brown eyes (when she's not fired up, angry or upset). Perhaps the most noticeable of all Grace's features is her long auburn hair which she will wear straight or wavy.
She has a minimalist style and most of her clothing is made for comfort and function in her active lifestyle. It's not even that she doesn't care to dress up or put in the extra effort to look feminine, but she is simply used to hanging around with the guys so much where more hasn't been much of a necessity, thus her 5'7 figure taking on a tomboyish look which she tends to carry with a natural, unassuming ease (or "grace" even).
Grace has a fondness for and indulges in jewelry, particularly necklaces. It's not often that she'll be seen without one with an amulet or talisman hanging from it that harken back to her aspiring healer days.
2012 Update:With a desire to celebrate her promotion to full Auror as well as her added duties as an Auror Medic, Grace lopped off her rather long auburn locks in favor of the more chic, pixie cut that she now sports. She loves it, though having her long hair to fidget with in times of nervousness or deep contemplation has been an adjustment. To compliment the new haircut, Grace also tends to dress a bit more sharply or seriously. Though she still aims for function in her attire due to the nature of her work, there's a clear difference in how she approaches it now than when she was just a trainee.
Personality Description:Grace is a determined, intelligent and accomplished individual who strives to be a dutiful student, daughter, sister and all around decent person. School has always come easily for her but even with a seemingly endless supply of natural abilities and instinct doing many tasks, another trait that usually distinguishes Grace from classmates is that she is extremely hard working and dedicated to doing her best at every area of her life. Of course, this doesn't mean that she is without character flaws which have a tendency to get in the way of her success. In fact, being the overachieving perfectionist that she is and attempting to take on so many responsibilities, certainly have created many incidents where she has fallen flat on her face, and failure for her is often difficult to cope with. In addition, she tends to hold others to the same high standards that she has for herself and when they don't rise to her expectations, it can be very disappointing for her, causing her to be too quick to write people off (friend or foe alike).
She is generally a very confident person derived from an inner strength and grace that closely resembles her name, especially in difficult situations. Her tenacious spirit, her calculating demeanor, and her discriminating eye all make her a formidable opponent in any battle. The latter trait, however, sometimes works against her, as she can be to hasty in her judgmental of others. Her pride (or pigheaded nature) also makes it hard for her to admit when she is wrong. This stubbornness contributes to her being confrontational at times. She really doesn't have patience for those who she feels 'should know better' and still act like idiots.
She possesses strong natural instincts and will often blindly trust wherever they lead (which sometimes gets her into trouble). This means she's often the victim of "do now, think about and regret it later". Ultimately, though she does like a fair amount of structure in her life, she's not bound strictly by rules in any facet of her life (unless they are forced upon her) and she claims that she'll try anything at least once (and jokingly she says that in order to truly make a judgment about liking it, she has to try it at least seven times).
Grace is also strongly guided by her dreams and ambitions. She's constantly looking towards the future and this can sometimes be distracting for her and make it difficult to live in the moment.
2012 Update:At her core, much of who Grace is has not changed from the time she was in Hogwarts. And this is what makes her a good Auror and a medic: Grace still can't help wanting to fight for what is right, for those who are helpless or less fortunate, no matter the consequences. It still offends her sense of fairness and justice in the world. Of course, now she has more tools with which to have an impact on such things. This realization has caused her to take her work as an Auror and medic quite seriously, which on some level is not surprising considering Grace has always taken certain pursuits seriously. Still, in recent years, this has often been at the expense of other areas in her life. Her social life complete with close friends have all but fallen away from her as she has settled her razor sharp focus on reaching certain career goals. Perhaps part of her fears losing another unspoken, passionately held vision for her future and being crushed by it. While she may have been dubbed a stick in the mud who didn't know how to have fun for a time, she feels the sacrifice has been worth it.
Now that her training is over, though she recognizes she has plenty left to learn about her profession and her role in it, Grace seems much more relaxed and oddly serene. Might she finally be content with where she is? Or who she is? Have her dreams and ambitions finally plateaued and she can now live in the moment?
History:There was never really anything extraordinary of note about Grace's early childhood growing up in Gulval, Cornwall. The small suburban offshoot of the more well known Penzance was in many ways closed off from most of the world, but coming from a rather large family with longstanding roots in the area helped give her a far from boring existence. Traditionally, the Eddys have been farmers and laborers, but in more recent years, her family has become deeply ingrained in academia. Her father, Melor, was a school teacher and is now a college professor and her mother, Eugenia, is a book editor and book collector. While Penzance had a public library, the Eddy household collection could easily challenge it in notable, limited edition paper or hardbound volumes, collected and salvaged over time. In addition, Grace has an older brother, Cadan, who is coming into prominence as a writer.
This rich scholastic environment instilled in Grace very early on a love for learning and an enjoyment of books. She found sanctuary in her schoolwork early on she was labeled as odd. So she delved into the stories and information that she regularly found. For the most part, Grace was considered bright, but not unusually so at first. By her tenth birthday, however, it was clear that she was more than an average kid but unfortunately, her parents were clueless as to how to characterize her unusual abilities and talents.
Later on that year, Grace and her family were visited by someone from Hogwart's and she was invited to attend the school the following school year. Her parents were perplexed but they were also supportive. At the time, if they had understood more about it, they would have even been thrilled for her. Instead, they began the exploration of the magical world along with Grace.
Though she was a quiet, seemingly timid little thing upon first arriving to the school, Grace was promptly sorted into Gryffindor. The Sorting Hat must've recognized the fire in her spirit that went well beyond the hue of her hair. Routinely throughout that first year, Grace's mettle was tested by those who looked down on her for her Muggle roots. Although she never backed down from a confrontation, Grace preferred to remain in the background for as long as possible while she learned the magical ropes, so to speak.
By her third year, Grace had really broken out of her shell. She had a solid group of friends upon whom she could rely (and be allies) and she also became involved in many extracurricular activities, including Quiddich, Dueling (which came in handy), and the Orchestra and Choir. She also threw herself into her studies and received high marks on all of her OWLS.
At the start of her Seventh Year, Grace look pride in being an older student at school and a role model. She was always looking ahead, anxious to see her future goals unfold. Her final year in school went nothing like she imagined. Her mother's cancer relapsed and the prognosis was not good. Eugenia Eddy was not expected to live out the year. Grace tried to bury her sorrows in school work and extra curriculars, but comfort was not so easily found. Her ongoing feud with Maeve Whitman came to a head and Grace was punished by her head of house. During this time, Grace also met her maternal uncle, Jonas Trevelyan, who also went to Hogwart's.
When end of term came around, her mother's condition worsened and Grace ended up missing part of her Herbology NEWT exam to go home to be with her mother. She didn't regret it, but the missed NEWT prevented Grace from having the requirements needed to pursue becoming a Healer.
Shortly after moving in with some of the others in her class who were becoming Aurors, Grace decided to give it shot. Like every other pursuit, Grace has thrown herself into the profession with vigor. But her heart still missed the bittersweet idea of healing and so she also added to her plate the training to also be an Auror Field Medic.
2012 Update: During the early months of the year while she was still considered a Trainee, Grace spent much of her time focused on her added medic training. She's started to put those skills into action both on the field but also away from work. She has taken up residence in a Diagon flat and often provides help to those in need, notably werewolves (both registered and unregistered) during the weeks before and after Full Moons, her efforts to help with the Underground Werewolf Clinic that Knox Greyfriar once exposed her to.
At her core, much of who Grace is has not changed from the time she was in Hogwarts. And this is what makes her a good Auror and a medic: Grace still can't help wanting to fight for what is right, for those who are helpless or less fortunate, no matter the consequences. How Do You Fit Into Your House?:Grace's Muggle heritage has often garnered some unsavory attention over the years, and although she wishes that she could be the bigger person and walk away from conflict, more often than now she will refuse to allow anyone to disrespect her without consequences. This goes double for anyone who picks on her friends or those helpless or less unfortunate. It simply offends her sense of fairness and justice. Even now, with the recent happenings at the school, Grace finds herself itching to fight for what is right, no matter the consequences.
Sum up your character in one paragraph:Though Muggle by birth, Grace has clearly found a home in the magical world. Her uninspired roots in the eyes of discriminatory purebloods usually has her feeling like she has something to prove, even if it's really only in her own mind. She simply knows that this is where she was meant to be and so she pours her heart and soul into it.
