    Full Character Name:
    Kit Anna Branwell
    Character Birthday & Age: February 9, 1993
City & Country of Birth: Rousay, Scotland
    Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood
House & Year: Gryffindor fifth year
Wand: Rowan, pheonix feather, inflexible, smooth
Physical Description: Kit Branwell has been described as doll, not an inaccurate description. With dark thick hair, a pale complexion and a penchant for clothing more befitting a different era, she can and does look very much like a porcelain doll in the right outfit, which is almost every day.

Kit's hair is thick and black with a slight wave to it, and she wears it long with straight bangs that she trims every two weeks. The rest of her hair follows this line of careful upkeep: outside of just finishing a sports sessions, there is never a hair out of place and it is always washed and shiny as obsidian.

Her frame is slight due to extensive (and arguably excessive) physical exercise, with judo and fencing being her preferred sports (swimming is a close third). But because she covers herself conservatively, it's difficult to tell that her arms and legs have any sort of muscle toning to them- she just ends up looking delicate. She weighs more than she looks because she has built a good amount of muscle in sports. Kit's face follows the delicateness of the rest of her body. Her chin has a slight soft point to it, her nose is small and thin and her mouth his a tad bit too small and is almost always serious. Her eyes are large, not enough to make her see alien-ish or strange, but large enough to draw attention to themselves and the paleness of her grey eyes, only a few shades darker than the surrounding white.

She has a love of lace, skirts and cameos and to this day chooses to dress as if her grandmother was picking out her clothing (her grandmother never actually picked out her clothes, but outfit choices are as if she had). She never wears trousers, unless she is in her judo or fencing uniform and she will visibly turn her nose up and jeans. For Kit it is all about dressing like a lady and that means a proper blouse (with proper cleavage, back, stomach and arm coverage), a knee-length skirt, opaque tights and close-toed shoes that never exceed more than an inch of heel height. If the shoes were any higher, it would be difficult to run. Similarly, she always wears tights, never stockings, that are always opaque, and thus saving herself from the embarrassment of seeing her undergarments in a high wind, on a broom, or if she's forced to perform a high kick on an offending oaf. Not that she goes around kicking people; ladies don't do that sort of thing (but her skirts are always pleated or billowy enough to allow for a full range og leg movement). She wears just a touch of makeup, but nothing over-the-top or dramatic.

Her accent in unusually English and "posh" due to her family having a second home in London, where they spend a good deal of time, and her idolizing her father (who is English) to the extent that as a small child she was determined to be just like him, even in her accent. When she is home for an extended period or upset, she tends to slip back into a Scottish accent more akin to where she actually lives.

    (Optional list)
Build/Body type: Medium stature, very small "dainty" frame.
    Estimated Height/Weight: 5'3"/ 110lbs
Hair color: Black Eye color: pale grey
    Skin color: White, pale
Any odd/outstanding features?: Eyes, mainly because they are large for her face and are such a pale colour. More outstanding than odd, because her eyes aren't huge, just a bit bigger than normal which makes the eye colour stand out more

    Personality Description:
Kit is a lady, fist and foremost. That is how she thinks of herself and she acts accordingly. She is living proof that chivalry is not dead: it just needs t be forcibly pulled out of some people and Kit is only too happy to provide that force. She openly disapproves of swearing, revealing clothing or otherwise "crude" behavior, which can make her come off as a bit of a prude. All of this, plus being extremely stubborn and set in her ways makes Kit one of those 15-going-on-50 types of girls.

She does her best effort to be polite, to other people, and always keep a proper level of respect, however, she does have a bit of a biting tongue and is extremely adept at using backhanded compliments. She has a sharp wit and a bright mind, though it has been known to wander during lessons if she deems the topic at hand "to basic" for her to devote her full attention too.

If her dedication to being a proper traditional lady clashes with her vigorous (and possibly obsessive) concentration in her sports, it doesn't seem to bother her. She sees it as self-improvement, something that everyone (in her opinion) should strive for. Laziness is intolerable. However, self-improvement by means of shortcuts (i.e.: cheating to get high marks, playing dirty in sports, bribery, etc.) is even worse. Kit is very competitive, with herself if there's no one else around worth competing with, and strives to be the best in everything she does. This mainly comes out in sports, but does rear its head in lessons as well. She gets frustrated anytime she comes across something she doesn't have a natural talent for.

Though she loves her sports and physical activity, Kit has no fondness for Quidditch, considering it to be not a real sport at all, since players sit on their bums the entire game and depend on their brooms for most of their skill. She much prefers to attend Muggle football games, or (since those are lacking at Hogwarts), practice her personal sports on her own time, or teach a mate so they can join in with her.

Her favorite subjects are Defense Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration ad her least favorite are Divination (which she considers an fantastic waste of time and is only in it because of her father) and Potions (it falls into the no natural talent category).

History: Kit was born the youngest of two children to Christopher and Rhona Branwell. The family alternated between their permanent residence at Rousay Island in northern Scotland and a secondary London residence during the occasions when Christopher's work with the Ministry (he is an Unspeakable) would keep him away from home for extended periods of time, or to attend some private lessons/meet with tutors or for tournaments, as there aren't many more than 200 people on Rousay (most of them Muggles) and Wizard transportation makes an otherwise arduous trip lightening-quick.

As such the two Branwell sisters spent much of their time in London. They never moved permanently from Rousay to London, because it might be more convenient, Rhona refuses to permanatly move from the place she was born and raised, especially to a place with no seaside. Rhona, a seal Animagnus, taught Kit and her sister, Morgan,  who years Kit’s senior, how to swim before they could walk (though in the bath and pools, mot the ocean until they were considerably older).

Besides teaching them how to swim, Rhona was also her daughter's first teacher, providing them with much of their primary education, and teaching them how to be ladylike. This was also enforced by Grandmother Branwell, who had run a finishing school for girls in he younger days and was more than willing to pass this "valuable information" on to her granddaughters. Kit took the lessons to heart, her sister Morgan less so.

Rhona also encouraged the girls to find their own active past-time. Her family owns a successful fishing business that made it possible to support the girls fully in almost an passion. Kit went toward martial arts, more specifically judo and fencing and Morgan, an incurable animal lover ("can we adopt him? he followed me home!") found herself graduating toward horseback riding. However, because their lifestyle could not support owning a horse, Morgan had to settle for learning at camps, farms and friends’.

Kit persuaded her sister to give judo and fencing a try, since Morgan wasn't able to practice what she loved often. Morgan never got into judo, but she did take a fancy to fencing and the two sisters quickly became sparring partners. This more than anything helped bond the pair, despite their vast differences in personality. Morgan seemed to have inherited all the impulse genes of the family and Kit nearly all the reserve. The result is the two sisters roll eyes and are often exasperated with each other. When they were little this meant countless fights. Now that has been somewhat tempered; half the time they think the other is crazy, but rarely fight.

With both their parents wizards (although Christopher is Muggle-born), of course a Hogwarts letter was only to be expected. When Kit was nine, Morgan got her letter and Kit was in a tizzy that she hadn't gotten one as well. It wasn't a desire not to be parted from her sister. Kit, never one who liked to be left behind, resented that her sister got her letter before her and would be able to learn magic not just one, but two years before Kit.  Age didn’t matter: she was ready to learn!

Finally, after two long years (and teasing by Morgan) he got her letter. By 11, her hero worship of her father hadn't worn off at all, and so she wanted to be a Gryffindor just like her father. Because most of her childhood was spent in little Rousay, and trips to London were often isolated to their home, a tournament venue, or a classroom, Kit could be called a sheltered child, and so she was surprised that everyone wasn't "proper" ladies and gentlemen. Some were even worse than Morgan (who up until that point, Kit considered the worst lady in the entire world).

Kit took it upon herself to educate her classmates in being proper embers of society, something that didn't exactly meet with a rousing success. She found making friends difficult at first because she was so unused to social interactions with such a variety of people. However, she did find a few mates who she bonded with despite (or because) of her quirkiness. She made friends with girls as easily as boys because while she is quite girly in her habits, her obsessive sports routine and training helped her bond with guys. She also joined the Dueling club, although she flat out refused to have anything to do with Quiddithc except cheer on friends.

Second year passed much like the first, except Kit gave up on her quest to take up Grandmother Branwell's role of a finishing school instructor for her classmates. However, fencing and judo lessons were still open to anyone who wanted to join her. And, of course, she still took upon herself to politely remind friends on posture, proper grammar, etc.

Third year was similarly uneventful, except for the added bonus of being able to pick new lessons. Kit wanted to pass over Divination, but was persuaded to give it a go by her father, who she still really couldn’t say no to. She would regret it, as she absolutely loathed the subject, but was determined to stick it out until her O.W.L's because she absolutely refused to quit anything.

Fourth year was the year of her first crush, which ended badly. Two highly competitive people probably shouldn't go out. Kit blamed it on the boy in question and his ridiculous obsession with his girlfriend being stronger than him. Apparently he thought it was emasculating, or something equally ridiculous.

Now in her O.W.L. year, Kit is looking forward to the tests to see just where she stands (and to free her of Divination) How Do You Fit Into Your House?: Personality-wise, Kit is a perfect fit for Gryffindor. She is a self-appointed champion of chivalry, does not back down from confrontations or in her beliefs and doesn't know the meaning of fear (or at least refuses to show it). She has a strong moral compass and uses that to guide her actions.
Writing Sample: Show your character in a scene that illustrates the best and worst aspects of their personality. Include action, dialog and thought.

She just didn't get it. Why any sensible person would opt to venture out in the biting cold to cheer on a not-sport like Quidditch. Then again, she was here wasn't she? Sigh. Goodness knew how many times she had try to convince Luke that his time and skills would be better suited to another, legitimate sport, to no avail.

But, despite her personal feelings, Luke was both a friend and a housemate. It wouldn't just be rude not to come and cheer, it would absolutely cold-hearted.

A sudden gust of wind disrupted her thoughts and the cold air bit her cheeks and slapped several thick dark hair in front of her face. Irritated, Kit drew the offending stands behind her ears and silently scolded herself for not brining some sort of headgear. She was usually better prepared than this. She didn't envy Luke up high above her, circling the pitch; even if Quidditch was a non sport, the wind chill and intensity would be intensified for all the players.

The wind also brought another unwelcome experience to Kit's Quidditch game experience

Dear God, they're bloody terrible, aren't they? I suppose you can't expect too much out of a team that's mostly Mudbloods, though

Kit's eyes flashed as she turned to find the owner of the offending voice. Two things Kit could not stand: profanity insulting a friend. Even if this churlish boy hadn't named Luke directly, he might as well have pointed him out and flashed a photo to his mates as far as Kit was concerned.

"Yes, well not everyone can be expected to bear the burden of being a pureblood, can they," Kit said, turning to face the offender directly. Her voice was sugary sweet and perfectly polite, a slight smile on her lips. "What with spending countless hours of your days pouring over records to make certain one's family tree is free of mix-marriages and Squibs, instructing others of lesser blood of the social ladder as they best purebloods in lessons and Quidditch games. Oh and let's not forget avoiding inbreeding. It truly must be a position only wizards with great mental fortitude can hope to fully meet. You certainly have my sympathies."

She was carefully trying to keep heavy sarcasm out of her tone, or at least make the sarcasm a bit more subtle than her impulses insisted on. If they had half a brain, they would understand she was mocking them. If not; she could laugh at their dim wits to herself and later with Luke.

Sum up your character in one paragraph:
Kit is fifteen going on 50 and a throwback to a previous century in both mannerism and personal style. Despite her doll-like appearance, she is a capable and extremely driven young woman, determined to be the best in everything she sets out to study by means of good old fashioned hard work (but minimal visible sweat-that would be most unbecoming a lady). Shortcuts are for the weak and sneaks and she is neither. She is a lady, and she will behave herself accordingly.

    Prefect Application

EDIT: Kit is no longer a Prefect. Details to be forthcoming.

    Accepted! ~Elle

    [Character Name:] Kit Branwell
[Title Applying For:] Gryffindor 5th year prefect, female spot
    [Link to Accepted Biography:] Bio

[How Has Your Past Prepared You For This Honor?:] Kit is a serious student, both in academics and her no-nonsense personality. About as straight-laced as they come, she's probably the last student one would expect any sort of deviance from and one of the first to expect to "guide" (aka correct) misbehaving students back to what she deems "proper." That and she has secret ambitions of being knighted and would see being a Prefect as stepping stone for this goal.

[What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:? Kit believes that the role of the prefect is twofold. First, Prefects need to act as guides to the rest of the student body, assisting them in their endeavors and steering them on the right course when they go astray. Second, Prefects are to lead b example, a task Kit believes she is well suited for, since her example of proper lady behaviour could be well applied to many of the other students at school. As far as guiding goes, Kit has a bit of an interesting philosophy to this which might not make her the pristine prefect her appearance would otherwise lead you to believe. She believes one of the best ways to learn is to do and learn from your mistakes and accomplishments. Why might this not be ideal? Because, while Kit will be quick to pounce on students calling someone mudblood, defacing school property, copying another student's homework, not wearing their proper uniform, etc, if she ever encountered two students ready to duel each other, instead of breaking it up, she would referee the match, making sure it didn't get to out of hand, that everyone played fairly and were escorted to the Hospital Wing if needed at the end. And then offer to tutor the brawlers in proper dueling. If someone is wandering around after hours and she catches them, she'll certainly come down on them with the might of her prefect badge, but if she hears that someone snuck out after hours and didn't get caught, she wouldn't do anything to the student except make a mental tab to keep a closer eye out.

[Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:]
During Kit's first year she struggled a bit with the idea that not everyone was well-versed in the ways of chivalry and proper behaviour for ladies and gentlemen. She also didn't understand why no one seemed to be able to throw  a proper punch. One early Tuesday morning, while on her way to breakfast after her two hour exercise routine (she was a nut about her sports even then), young Kit came across a male classmate being bullied by an older year, who had cornered the poor boy in a corner with a black eye and his face screwed up in that awkward awful expression you get when all you want to do is cry and all you want to do is not cry.

So, what did Kit do? Well, about 15 minutes later, the three were in the Hospital Wing, the two boys being treated for identical black eyes and Kit overseeing their health, whilst spilling the story to the Healer. This is how she told it:

"Madam! I was heading toward lunch and I saw Mr. Tally in a state of distres with the wounds you see now. Standing over him and using blood profanities I am not allowed to saw was Mr. Janson, clearly the perpetrator of this event.

"As I could not simply watch idly by or pass without aiding Mr. Tally, I demanded that he be released at once. Mr. Janson then preceded to laugh most rudely at me and use more words I am not permitted to say. I then told Mr. Janson that if he did not cease and disest at once, that I would be forced to defend my classmates honor. As you can no doubt see, he did not and I was forced to defend both myself and Mr. Tally.

I attempted to only give him exactly what he himself had inflicted, but apparently Mr. Tally was made of sterner stuff after all, because Mr. Janson did fall and was knocked out for a few seconds, afterwards I took the liberty of disarming him, immobilizing him an escorting both to the Hospital Wing. Please use your best judgement when determining our punishment."

What a little 11 year old Kit did not quite grasp yet is that she packed a harder punch then a lot of boys because of her training and that not everyone felt inclined to go around fighting for other people's honor. Before Hogwarts, she lived on an island with less than 220 people, most of them Muggle, so extremely limited contact with other people. Kit's intensity has tempered a bit as she matured over the school years, but it's still likely that if she encountered a similar situation, she would still end up dragging both back to the Hospital Wing to get patched up, since most students are too thick to understand "cease and desist."

    Dueling Club President Application

    Accepted! ~Elle

    Character Name: Kit Branwell
Title Applying For: President of the Dueling Club
    Link to Accepted Biography: LINK

What Experience has Prepared You For This Honor?: Kit joined the Dueling Club the second she found out about it. The martial aspects of wandwork has always been an interest of her and she frequently practices dueling both muggle and magic on her own time. Completely dedicated to the art of dueling with a varity of weapons (she's a practiced fencer and martial artist as well), Kit has likely never missed a meeting of the dueling club, had overall good results and is the sort of person to jump on the chance to takeover.

What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:? IC: Kit will see that ever member of the dueling club is both clean and competent (and she's not above passing out the hand sanitizer and scourgify charms to do so). She wants to make sure that everyone has a firm grasp of self defense, including what to do when their wand is taken away from them.

OOC: Boost activity and interest by having more frequent threads and activities for the Dueling club and figuring out ways to mix it up so it's not the same meeting five different times.

Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle:  This is taken from an old thread of Kit's Stay On your toes

Now that school has been in session for nearly a month, classes had started to pick up and get past their introductory swing. Kit considered this a very good thing, since her mind, like her body detested not being active to its full potential. The drawback was that sometimes Kit had to sacrifice her training sessions to make sure she had ample time to complete her schoolwork.

Today was a catchup day for Kit. Not schoolwork- she'd already caught up on everything she need for Monday. Today was catchup for all her training, with a little bit of practical schoolwork thrown into the mix.

She had temporarily borrowed a couple suits of armor and set them up in the classroom, along with a table of bottles, boxes and other targets. She needed to get some good old fashioned dueling practice in. She had another table set up of to the side with a few books on dueling spells, stances and techniques she would probably refer to as the session wore on. She'd also brought one of her fencing sabres with her as well, to mix things up a bit. Actually, she'd love to experiment with mixing wand and foil dueling, but for that she needed a proper partner to test its actual effectiveness.

Even so...it couldn't hurt to try, could it?

Her wand in her left hand and sabre in her right, Kit took her stance and cast a charm over one of the suits, causing the fasions of the plates to come undone and fall clattering to the floor.

She had barely finished her incantation when she pivoted and lunged, stabbing the empty air with a backhanded thrust right where a person's torso would be if there had been a real person under the suit.

Satisfied, Kit drew away, keeping herself in a defensive posture out of sheer habit. Yes, that had worked quite nicely, she thought. Of course, the chances of her fighting anyone in a suit of armour was relatively slim, but it couldn't hurt to be prepared.

The clattering of the metal plates to the stone floor had been almost excessively loud. Kit was hoping a wandering professor wouldn't come in; she wasn't sure they'd appreciate her using the suits at target practice.
