    Candice Marie Stevenson
    Owner of Magicakery
We tend to forget that happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.

Full Character Name: Candice Marie Stevenson
    Character Birthday & Age: 27 | November 1, 1981
City & Country of Birth: London, England
    Pureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn?: Half-blood
    Alma Mater: Hogwarts, Hufflepuff
Job: Former Psychiatrist for the Ministry of Magic; Current Chef at Calaveras

Wand: Candice’s wand is 11 1/3 inches long and made of Myrtle Wood. It has a unicorn tail hair core. It is smooth with a very plain handle and is extremely swishy.

Physical Description: Candice is taller than average- standing at 5'10", which she is thankful for as she thinks it might help her carry her excess weight. Candice thinks she is severely overweight, although in all honesty she’s just a little chubby. She has a thicker build, but carries her weight in a flattering way. Still, instead of showing off her figure she often tries to hide it under over-modest clothing.

She has medium blond hair that falls in soft waves or loose curls to her shoulders (depending on the time spent on it), Candy only straightens her hair on special occasions. Her complexion is fair. She has bright blue eyes, and full lips. Candy thinks she has a piggish nose, and though it is slightly upturned, most would not make the connection without her pointing it out.

Personality Description: Candice is not the sort that many would see as working with dangerous criminals and hitwizards/aurors on a daily basis. Candy is very soft spoken, the sort of person that many would assume could easily be walked all over- and they are correct. Candice isn’t very good at standing up for herself, and often times has trouble reigning in her clients at group sessions because of this. Still, she reassures herself that it is just something she has to learn, and chalks it up to inexperience.

She has a serious issue with self image. Candice doesn’t think of herself as being attractive, and is constantly worrying about her weight. She is the sort of girl who will constantly say, “Oh I shouldn’t!” and then do so anyway. Candice generally says self-degrading things (although she tries to avoid doing so in front of those she is working with). No matter how many people tell her she is pretty or that there is nothing wrong with her, she consistently thinks that she will never meet society’s standards of beauty and for some reason this very much bothers her. (Probably due to the teasing she encountered in school.)

She has a very big heart, though. Candice believes there is good in everyone, and got into her profession because she wanted to be able to help people. Candice knows firsthand how difficult life can be, and wanted to counsel others through it. When the opportunity presented itself at the ministry, she jumped at it. The chance to help rehabilitate people and to help out the law enforcement seemed to be the perfect purpose to her life.

Although she is optimistic, kind, and many other good things- she is not as naïve as some would think. Candice has seen a lot in her lifetime, and knows that the world is not all sunshine and rainbows, however much she wishes that it was. She just chose to rise above her circumstances and to make her life as good as it could be, and to give back to others. Generally she just lets others go on believing she is naïve, not wanting to be rude by correcting others. The only time she really brings up her past is in her sessions, when she feels that her clients might feel better knowing she can identify (to an extent).

History: Candice was born to a teenage mother, who left her in the care of her grandparents. Her mother was more concerned about partying and having a good time than she was with being a parent, and Candice would always feel the sting of rejection because of this.

Her grandparents were very attentive, doing their best to make their granddaughter feel loved and accepted. They were always very honest with their granddaughter about her mother, hoping that if she knew the truth she would not make the same mistakes that she had. Candice did indeed avoid those mistakes and grow up to be responsible and well adjusted, but she would always wonder what was so wrong with her that her mother couldn’t put her life on hold and take care of her- like a mother should.

As a child she had no clue that she was magical. Her grandparents were shocked when she got an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. They supposed that her father must have been a wizard (and in fact, he was). After a little investigating and lots of begging on Candy’s part, they eventually agreed that it would be best for her to go. There was no need for her to waste her gift.

Candy was sorted into Hufflepuff almost immediately upon donning the sorting hat. She fit in well with her classmates, and for the first time felt like she truly belonged somewhere. She did decent in most of her classes, but had a particular liking for charms and for potions.

She was picked on a lot by people in other houses. Candice was always a bit pudgy as a child, and the Slytherins made no qualms about telling her so. Once a muggle student in Gryffindor compared her to Miss Piggy, and the name stuck. Many called her that, both viciously and in a way that showed they cared. Candy hated the name, but the more she tried to fight it, the more that it stuck.

In her third year she picked up Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. Candice never really liked them very much, but stuck with it anyway. She felt since she had dedicated herself she should follow through.

When Candy was in her fifth year, her grandfather to reach out to her mother. Her mother came home, much older but no less wild than she had been when she gave birth to Candy.

Her summers and holidays were awful. Candice had a hard time listening to her mom, as she had never been around her before. She had a difficult time accepting her as an authority figure, and her mother never truly appreciated her. When Candice began to ask questions about her father, her mother always refused to answer. Candy soon realized that this was likely because her mother probably had no idea who her dad was.

She decided after trying to help her mother, and failing, that she wanted to help others. Candy knew that there had to be people out there who wanted help and would benefit from her kindness if she could show it to them. At this point she began to research jobs, and decided that she wanted to get into psychiatrics. Candy worked hard in school to get the proper grades to one day intern at St. Mungo’s.

The final battle also took place in Candy’s fifth year. She doesn’t remember much of it. She never was very involved with the fight. She was one of the people who holed up and hid away until it was all over with. Candy never was very brave, but envied those who were.

She would graduate from Hogwarts in 2001. Shortly thereafter she began to apply for internships to St. Mungo’s. Eventually she was accepted, and began to train for the field which interested her most. Candy was a hard worker, and always applied herself to whatever tasks she was given. She had a natural flair for healing, and for talking with others. As kind hearted and understanding as she was, people had no problems opening up to her- something that was very handy in her line of work.

Eventually she would complete her education and would take up her position at the ministry shortly after. Candy has been with the Ministry of Magic for a little over a year at this point. She loves her job and hopes to continue to do good for her world by staying there.

Her relationship with her mother is still very poor. Her mother lives at home with her grandfather, and he still takes care of her. Candice has since moved into her own flat in London to be closer to her workplace. She visits her grandfather on a regular basis, but often tries to avoid her mom.

Sum up your character in one paragraph: Candice is an individual who believes she has found her purpose for living. She wants to do anything that she can to help others, and hopes to make a difference in the world. Candy is kind hearted, sweet, and generous. She has some self esteem issues, but she tries to work on it. Candy has seen and been through a lot in her life, and as such tries to make the world a better place for everyone else.

    Occupations

Candice started out working as a Psychiatrist for the Ministry of Magic. She counseled the ministry workers, and various criminals who had been ordered to seek therapy. Candice also ran anger management classes for parolees and for employees of the Ministry of Magic who might need it.

She did her training at St. Mungo’s. Almost as soon as Candy was done with her medical training, the job opening became available at the ministry. It didn’t seem that anyone was interested in it, so Candice applied.

Candice managed to survive at the ministry about two years. She had a very difficult time adjusting and making friends. For the most part the aurors didn't take her seriously, and the criminals thought she was a pushover. Eventually she would find herself going toe-to-toe with the head of the auror office- and losing. Candice was dismissed in January of 2009, and spent a few weeks unemployed before finding a job as a chef.

Cooking has always been a passion of hers. After befriending Dolly St. James, she was pointed toward Calaveras for a cooking job. She met with Meredith Renfield and after preparing for a few sample dishes was hired onto the kitchen staff at Calaveras. She works mostly with desserts, but also aids elsewhere as needed.

But soon Candice found that Calaveras was not the place for her. With new found confidence in herself and her capabilities, Candy left Calaveras and opened her own bakery in Hogsmeade! It is called Magicakery and opened in May of 2009. Thus far it has been successful, earning profit and making her feel like she has made the right choice in life- finally!

    The Family

    Relationship: Grandfather
    Name: Timothy Stevenson
    Age: 62
    Occupation: Retired Postmaster
Details: Candy's grandfather has been the only paternal figure in her life. He means the world to her, and they are very close. The idea of anything happening to him just destroys her. She just hopes that is proud of her.
    Relationship: Grandmother
    Name: Sarah Lorraine Stevenson
    Age: 61
    Occupation: Homemaker
Details: Candy's grandmother was the woman who raised her. She aspires to be just like her. Candy has great memories of learning how to cook, sew, and do other domestic things from her grandmother. She wouldn't change their relationship for the world. She'd be totally lost without her guidance.
    Relationship: Mother
    Name: Veronica Stevenson
    Age: 42
    Occupation: Unemployed
Details: Veronica is Candy's mother. She was 15 when she gave birth to Candice, leaving her in the care of her grandparents and running off with the man who fathered her. Her mother is unemployed, a party animal, and doesn't have the slightest grasp of responsibility or acting her age. Needless to say, the two do not get along and she does not like her much.

    Magicakery

Magicakery is a magical bakery located in Hogsmeade. The storefront has large windows showing the brightly lit shop, and a set of bistro tables and chairs in front of each window. Inside you can see the bakery display cases filled with different treats- and the variety of baked goods changes throughout the day. The inside of the store also has more tables and chairs for customers. The bakery serves a variety of standard baked goods as well as magically enhanced ones. Candice owns the bakery and has a couple of part time employees so she doesn't have to work the 12 hour shift every day and bake everything.

Magicakery has a variety of sweets available- as well as standard breads. Early in the morning, donuts and pastries are sure to be in stock. Throughout the day other sweets are added into the display cases- including brownies, cheesecakes, pies, cupcakes, cakes, cookies, and other things. For the most part the baked goods vary from day to day. But there are a few staple items- and quite often it is just the flavor that is different.

The shop sells standard baked goods without any magical enhancements- and also sells some which are potion infused. Potion infused items are more expensive and tend to be restocked less often throughout the day. The effects of the potions varies. Some are warming for early mornings, foods to help you keep cool, some pep you up or make you happy. Potion infused items are sold by the shopkeepers discretion- so if a first year tries to buy a whole box of love potion infused cookies, they probably won't get away with it. For the most part the rule of thumb is that only adults can purchase anything with potion additives. Prices are quite reasonable, and listed in front of each plate on a small place card. Multiple items bought offers a small discount.

Along with baked goods there is also a small coffee bar with a limited selection of coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. Cold drinks are also available from a cooler- including water, juices, and pop. For the adventurous fresh fruit smoothies can also be ordered from the menu.

Within the bakers is a handful of tall, round tables each surrounded by four chairs. Each table a small vase of flowers in the middle- most of which are pink or white with brown vases to match the color scheme of Magicakery. At most the inside of the bakery could seat 20 people.

Inside Magicakery the walls are a dusty, pale pink and the flooring is brown tile. There are pictures and art work hung on the walls- but most of them do not match and are random pieces which the owner enjoys or have sentimental value. All in all the atmosphere is small, quaint, and homely. It is not overly modern or out dated, and is simply comfortable and familiar.
