FACT OR FICTION? Arithmancy is hard.Fact. It is a subject that requires a certain amount of rote memorization and there are constantly numbers coming at you from all directions...formulas, complicated math....enough to make you go buggy. Those who are not naturally skilled may need to spend more time at it. But you get out of it what you put into it.
Arithmancy is not fun.Fiction. It's as fun as you let it be or make it! Numbers are everywhere! Discovering their many meanings and uses can be extraordinary and complicated fun to rage on the world....
CLASSROOM
The Arithmancy classroom is located on the sixth floor along with another empty classroom and the boy's lavatory. When classes are not in session, the floor is eerily quiet and Myrni often feels like she has been hidden away from the rest of the school and forgotten about. It's a great place to go when one doesn't wish to be bothered, but at the same time, it can be somewhat lonely.
Despite the other rooms on the floor being drab and unwelcoming, Myrni does her best to ensure that her classroom is warm and inviting. The classroom itself is set up in rows of two person desks. Upon first entering at the front, there is a podium set off near the window or far wall, with a stool for Professor Levartian to sit on. But she rarely sits still for long and spends a lot of time wandering around during each class session.
Along the back wall, there are several book shelves with a plethora of titles pertaining to the subject, but there are also books about some other subjects intricately connected to hers. Also towards the back there is a door to what appears to be a closet-like room. It serves as Myrni's office and it certainly does have the ability to make a visitor feel claustrophobic.
The walls are full of visually appealing banners illustrating notable Arithmancy concepts.
RULES
- Given that Arithmancy is an elective, it is expected that students will attend class because everyone in it has essentially chosen to be here. With that said, students will only be excused in the case of emergencies. All other absences must be made up in some other way to be determined by me. Lateness will result in deducting house points, depending on the the severity.
- I like to have fun teaching just as much as you want to have fun learning. We can do class the fun way with lots of group work, projects and class discussions. Or we can do class the boring way with you doing lots of reading. And I do lots of lecturing. And you take lots of notes. And then you write long essays and take annoying tests. All of which I'll have to grade. What we both want and what will actually happen (or continue to happen) will all depend on your participation, performance and behavior.
- Have respect for your classmates, for me and also for yourself. Disruptive students will be treated the same as those who do not come to class. In other words, you'll be expected to make it up, either by detention or some other dislikeable task. (By all means, players should feel free to be creative and have the students defy this...it'll be fun to play out).
- The homework is meant to help you practice the concepts you're learning. You should do it. Not because I said so. Not because you want to get house points or a good grade or even to get into my good graces. No, you should do it because it will make you a better Arithmatician.

CLASS STRUCTURE
New: Since the game has been blessed with a full staff, that means that the likelihood of more classes are being posted will be greater. So I am sympathetic to players who simply do not have time to join in on each and every one (I myself play 3 student characters, so I can relate in that regard) and thus it is no longer a requirement to attend. No one will be penalized for not participating, but those who do will be rewarded with House Points (more below on that).
Each class will generally have three parts and I will be posting Myrni in the thread to correspond to them. They are:
1. Beginning/Set Up - Arrivals, greet and converse with classmates and even Myrni.
2. During Class - Participate in the class somehow, whether in the discussion or the assigned group work.
3. End of Class - Myrni will usually talk about the next class, give the next reading assignment or talk about the homework assignment. She'll probably also ask for questions. You're not required to ask anything, but you can have them interact with her then, or they can come up to her after class as they are leaving.
House Points To Be Awarded:+2 for attendance (basically, if you post your character showing up)
+5 General Participation (posting your character doing more than just showing up to class)
+3-5 Homework
(I'll only take points away for infractions you readily post your character committing.)
POINTS & GRADING
GeneralMyrni is not a fan of playing favorites. For one, she is still very new and doesn't have the knowledge of who are the "good" students and who are the "bad" ones. She makes a concerted effort to be logical and fair when grading or doling out house points. Of course, she does get excited when students go above and beyond (in an "I'm-not-brown-nosing-I'm-just-genuinely-working-hard" kind of way) or who regularly contribute to the class in a positive way or who share her fascination with the subject and go out of their way to learn more about it.
She does participate in the awarding of House Points as per the policy but she generally doesn't reward students for doing what is expected of them (like coming to class or exhibiting basic good behavior and common courtesy).
Grading Scale:O (Outstanding) 90-100 points
E (Exceeds Expectations) 80-89 points
A (Acceptable) 70-79 points
P (Poor) 60-69 points
D (Dreadful) 50-59 points
T (Troll) 49 points or less
