Snark Expels Werewolf
Creature Rights Groups Outraged

Hogwarts is in an uproar again, and like before, it centers around the controversial new Headmistress, Analiza Snark, 36. It came as no surprise that only days after she took the place of her predecessor, Knox Greyfriar, Madame Snark make a decision that shook the school to its foundations. In an act similar to the removing of werewolf Defense Against the Dark Arts professor Remus Lupin in 1993, by the school governors, Snark chose to expel a student, who will remain unnamed to protect the innocent, on the basis that she was a registered werewolf. This was decided despite the fact that there was no past record of violence and that the student had a regular schedule of visits each month to St. Mungo's Hospital to assure the safety of the students and in complete compliance with Ministry regulations.

Naturally, werewolf rights activists were quick to call abuse in this case. Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures head, Covadonga Gertrudis, 30, and her newly appointed Head of Werewolf Legislature, Simon Reid, 26, both declined to comment on the situation.  Although their office did release a statement verifying that the student werewolf had not been cited for violating any part of werewolf regulations.

However, faced with these allegations, Headmistress Snark remarked:

"Those who wish to condemn me for infringing upon [the student's] rights do not understand the implications of having a potentially dangerous creature unleashed on a school full of young, mostly defenseless children. It isn't about what [the student] has done in the past, how good she have been about taking her medicine or how careful she is when the full moon comes. It is about the possibility that one full moon she may forget to take her medicine, [the staff] may not be able to contain them and then thousands of innocent lives are at stake. It is a possibility that is much too probable to not take action on. I am in the business of protecting my students lives, all of them, not just one. And if that requires me to put the rights of one person below the lives of hundreds, then so be it."

Madame Snark also had this to say, regarding the previous administration of the school:

"I feel, as do many other concerned parents, that the fact that the student's ailment was concealed from the public, and more importantly, the parents of the other students, was a much bigger issue. Not only was it dangerous and irresponsible, but it leads to all sorts of other issues, mostly to do with creatures rights. If werewolves are allowed, then next the vampires will push to be allowed admittance to Hogwarts. Then the Veelas, and the giants, and a whole host of creatures that, while they may not have intentions of causing harm or danger to the student body, are dangerous in their very nature. Where do we draw the line? Where does one dangerous creature become less dangerous then another, enough so to be allowed around our children? These creature rights groups want to cry foul play and creature abuse, but do they really realize the ramifications of what they are demanding?"

Snark also offered an apology to the young werewolf and the public at large:

"I feel for the student. I really do. Her plight is one if great difficulty and hardships, ones that I regret having to attribute to. The expulsion was not a punishment, for the student did nothing wrong. We will see that she is provided a private education and is not slandered so she may live a normal life. It is imperative that the public understand that this was not an attack upon anyone, merely a preventative measure to assure the safety of the student body."
