[Sept. 13th] The Snake fell for the... Badger?! (Mystique)

Though everyone else was enjoying their weekend... Trent Travis was sulking in an empty classroom, writing down nonsense, teenage angst on a piece of paper. Trent was still a bit depressed after the whole... Darcy thing. Trent wasn't used to the girls he loved being thrown away. Every time he got close to a girl who would actually work out with him, it'd all get torn apart and he'd be left alone again. Such a cruel way to live.

After a few minutes of writing down nonsense, Trent laid his head down and began to think. What would he do now? Yes, there was always Astrid, but she was caught up with other things. And probably interested in other guys. Trent's heart nearly collapsed at this thought. He gasped for air and slammed his face on the desk. Why did his life need to be so typical for a teenager of his standards? Trent's life had become utterly miserable over the years. Heck, when he thought things would be better with Jasper and his father, Lukas Quinn... Mister Quinn died. Trent's life consisted of so much bad luck, that he could hardly understand how it was possible he was still alive. He should have been hit by an automobile long ago.

Though, that's not what Trent wanted. He wanted to be alive. Mainly because he was greedy and he still enjoyed himself with his friends. Nobody understood Trent besides Jasper and Atticus, really. Though Trent was cruel and usually showed no mercy, he had that soft side for when things went wrong. He just had so much hate, that beautiful part of him was crushed. And it didn't help that other students would fuel that hate by calling him "Trentcoat" and "Tatertot"... And made fun of his lack of showers. At least he smelt nice! Trent sniffed his shirt, which smelled of raspberries. "I smell perfectly fine." He murmured. Trent wouldn't get anywhere in life with all of this sulking, but it was what he did best.

Finally getting up from the old desk, Trent pulled himself over to a window. People were running around outside, acting foolish with their friends. He just frowned and turned away. He COULD find Atticus and see what he's up to... The again, he could always just sulk some more. Trent grumbled nonsense to himself and kicked a desk for no apparent reason. "This whole school is bullocks." He said, unnaturally loud for him.

Outfit

As excited as Mystique Ketteridge had been for getting back to school, she was no longer as excited.  A few days after the start, one of her best friends had decided to set the Hospital Wing on fire.  And because of that, she was expelled.  That made two friends who were no longer here, even though they should be.  And one was gone because she was protesting the expulsion of the other.

And people say Hufflepuffs are complacent... Mysti couldn’t help but laugh a little at the thought.  Loyal to the end, they were, and that showed with Darcy’s actions.  Despite the fact they might have been a bit rash. With Darcy and Ollie gone, and Fauna leaving after this year, what would Mysti do? Some of her best friends were gone. Thankfully, Bea was still there, though no offense to her, it wasn’t the same when they were in different houses.

Thinking over all of this that had happened, Mysti wasn’t particularly in the best of moods.  What she needed was something to distract her from this.  She’d thought about going to the library, but upon getting there, she just kept walking by it.  Though she normally enjoyed reading, she just wasn’t in the mood.  Perhaps tomorrow she would get outside.  That might do some good.

For now, Mysti just decided to wander the fourth floor.  There weren’t too many people around.  Most were, in fact, outside.  It was quite a nice day, but yet Mysti felt better being inside the castle.  Walking about, she noticed a door to one of the vacant classrooms ajar.  As she neared it, she heard a bit of murmuring.  Pulling it open a little, she looked inside and heard more talking, a bit louder this time, as well as a thud.

"This whole school is bullocks."

It was Trent Travis.  Mysti first felt that she should just leave him be, but then decided against it.  She leaned against the door frame and decided to join in his conversation with himself.

“I actually agree with you, Trent.  In fact, the whole world seems bullocks right now.”  As odd as it was, Mysti felt like he might actually be someone to talk to that would be understanding of the situation.  Most everyone knew how he’d had a big crush on Ollie, and quite possibly Darcy.  If anything, he’d gotten along with Hufflepuff girls more than Slytherins.  So Mysti decided to give talking to him and actually not arguing a shot.

“I actually agree with you, Trent.  In fact, the whole world seems bullocks right now.”

Trent turned, quickly, to the doorway. Only to spot Misty Kettlecorn. He opened his mouth to say something crude to her, to tell her off and make her go away. But instead he let out "Darcy leaving has made things much worst, hasn't it?" Trent sighed and pulled a seat towards Mysti before sitting down. "You'd think it wouldn't matter... Just another Hufflepuff girl, right...? I'd never think I could have such feelings for a girl that... That... Was so..." So Mystique. Trent's jaw loosened and he eyed the girl. Never before had he thought, Mysti was one of Darcy's friends. But he wasn't planning on telling Mysti that.

"Why am I even talking to you?" He groaned, burying his face into his palms. "I'm sorry... That was uncalled for-- Why am I sorry!?" It was as if his whole life was crashing down. Why on earth would Trent Travis be saying he's sorry to Mysti, one of those crazy reject girls who never got dates. Trent's lips pursed and he shook the thought away, quickly, and started thinking I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry over and over again. He was crashing. And he was burning.

Before he could even stop himself, he was crying. Not the great big sobs he does when he's by himself, but a silent cry. Trent picked his head up and looked back at Mysti, "I must look like a fool..." He said, quietly, to her. All of the things he could possibly do infront of a girl. This was the most degrading. He'd rather be singing and dancing like an idiot like Charlie Robards. Just probably with better dance moves. Trent leaned back in his chair and sighed.

"Though, I wish she wasn't taken away... I think Darcy had every right to do what she did." Trent muttered after a long pause of him just staring at the doorframe. His eyes landed on Mysti and he gave her a brief grin, "Feel free to come in..." He kicked a seat out for her to sit in, "I won't bite. For now, at least."

If Mysti had any doubts about Trent crushing on Darcy, they were erased.  She’d heard about him being there a little after she’d set the wing on fire.  But she hadn’t imagined him getting so upset over her being gone.  But it was kind of sad. He crushed on Ollie, and she was expelled. Then he was crushing on Darcy, and now she’s gone.  She watched him as he sat down near to her.

He then had a bit of an outburst, wondering why he was talking to her... and then apologizing.  It was a bit of a shock to Mysti, too.  She didn’t really expect for him to talk to her.  Nor to say sorry to her.  She never thought this would happen, but she did feel sorry for him.  A Slytherin. But then again, he wasn’t exactly like most Slytherins that she knew. And then he began to cry a little.  This really wasn’t what she expected when she walked into this room.

"I must look like a fool..."

“No, you don’t. Because to be honest, that’s about how I’ve been feeling this past week or so.”

"Though, I wish she wasn't taken away... I think Darcy had every right to do what she did.  Feel free to come in...  I won't bite. For now, at least."

“Believe me, I wish she wasn’t too. And agree with her having the right to do it too.  I really just don’t approve of the changes in our administration.”  Mysti watched him kick a chair out to her.  She gave a small smile and sat down. “If you do, I’ll have to give you a detention... or something.”

Was she allowed to give detentions as a prefect? Probably not, but she just felt like it might lighten the mood.  But Mysti and Trent were probably two of the most depressed people on the campus right now, and they were in the same room.  Mysti hadn’t even felt the urge to put on her Prefect badge before going out of the common room.

“To be honest, you were the last person I thought I’d end up talking to about this.  But I guess you’ve got your reasons for being upset about it too.” Crossing her arms over her chest, she exhaled heavily. “It’s just not right! All the good people are being sent away for all the wrong reasons.”

Then it seemed she and Trent were on even ground.  Mysti tried blinking away some tears, but they were still there.  For the first time since it had happened, she was talking about what had happened, and it was upsetting her more than she thought it would.

"I guess now I look like a fool too." She said with a small laugh. As she made that small laugh, she tried to wipe away some of the tears. But that didn't hide the fact that she was still a bit upset.

Trent watched as Mysti sat down. No matter how threatening or vulgar or nasty he was to her, she still talked to him and still acknowledged him. Trent's heart nearly skipped a bit and he stared at his shoes, as if they'd tell him what to say or do. It wasn't often that Trent felt this way about a girl, though it was happening quite frequently this year. He missed the good-ol'-times when he would sit around with Jasper, talking about how cute Ollie was or how Vienna was the prettiest Slytherin in existence. Things were simpler back then... Trent missed Jasper. But Jasper must have been busy with being the Head Boy and whatnot.

“If you do, I’ll have to give you a detention... or something.”

Trent let out a crackly laugh. "Can you even do that?" He chuckled, "What is the point of being a prefect?" Everyone he met had no idea what they were suppose to do. It was incredibly funny. Didn't they tell them what they were suppose to do? "I guess you could... Wag your finger at someone... Tell the Professor. But people already do that without a special badge." Trent shook his head, "Half of the prefects this year aren't even the ones who would do that." He shut his mouth. It was like he was talking to a good friend of his. Why was he even jabbering about prefects, anyways?

“It’s just not right! All the good people are being sent away for all the wrong reasons.”

"Well... To be honest, Mystique... I'd understand why they'd expel Darcy. She sort of, um. Set the school on fire." Trent wiped his eyes and finally looked over at her. Now she was crying. A grin carved into Trent's swollen face. It was great how tragedies could bring even the most different people together. Though, Trent shouldn't really be caring. But, who cared now? He was away from peeking eyes and he was with a pretty girl. That's all he needed for now.

"I guess now I look like a fool too."

Trent shook his head, "No, no..." He was greedy to think that only he was the one affected by this. Then again, he didn't really think he was being greedy. He was just naturally that way. "Poor Darcy can't do magic anymore, can she?" He frowned, slightly, before wrapping his long arm around Mysti's shoulders. It was different being with her... He didn't feel hesitant or scared to make a move. But he was shaking a bit and hoping to Merlin she didn't mind. "And Ollie... Being kicked out because she's different. That woman is a rightful... Bitch." Trent's lip quivered and he stared down at his feet again.

"Well... To be honest, Mystique... I'd understand why they'd expel Darcy. She sort of, um. Set the school on fire."

Mysti couldn’t help but let out a laugh at that.  It was true and she knew it, but didn’t really want to accept it.  But for some reason it was funny that Darcy set the school on fire.  Well, not the whole school, but still part of the school.  And did he actually just call her by her real name? No Kettlecorn any more?  That was something interesting now.  But Mysti didn’t mind.

"Poor Darcy can't do magic anymore, can she?"

Mysti shook her head. “No. I suppose they broke her wand after finding out it was her. Don’t need a pyromaniac running around the country with a wand.”  And then he put his arm around her.  Trent Travis, seventh year Slytherin putting his arm around her, a fifth year Hufflepuff?  She could feel him trembling a little, but yet she felt comfortable around him like this.  Instead of pulling away, she actually leaned into him a little. Was he actually comforting her? Or perhaps they were just comforting each other.

"And Ollie... Being kicked out because she's different. That woman is a rightful... Bitch."

Letting out a sarcastic laugh, she shook her head.  “That woman is a piece of work all right.  I have yet to see anything good that she’s done for this school.”  Well, there might be a few things. But right now, Mysti could think of nothing.  To be honest, she was slightly more distracted by the thought of who she was with at the moment.  Despite the fact that they had never particularly said nice things to each other in the past, it was still a bit of a joking meanness.  What’s that word... frenemies? They might act like enemies but they did it for fun and were really friends. Perhaps that’s what it had been.

But what should she do now? Mysti had no idea what to say next.  Part of it was that she was still a bit surprised that Trent was the one that she was talking with about this.  And that they were actually agreeing.  And Mysti was actually comfortable where she was at the moment. As she inhaled then exhaled, she noticed that he smelled slightly of raspberries.  She’d never actually smelled him before and felt a bit bad at having made fun of him for that before. He did smell better than a lot of guys she knew.

“You... smell nice.” She said, quite sincerely.  That was about the only thing she could think of to say at the moment. But Mysti felt like it might be good for something away from the depressing subject they’d been on.

“No. I suppose they broke her wand after finding out it was her. Don’t need a pyromaniac running around the country with a wand.”

Trent laughed, "I don't see why not. We could get rid of many problems in the Wizard world... Like Ainsley Gairden" His grin turn malicious as he thought about this. Ainsley was the only girl Trent couldn't stand. She, too, was a Hufflepuff. She also made out with Trent one day and started going out with his best friend the next. Jasper and Trent didn't talk much until Jasper told him about his... Rash. Trent immediately accepted Jasper back as a friend.

That woman is a piece of work all right.  I have yet to see anything good that she’s done for this school.”

"... There isn't any crazed killers anymore." Trent added, shrugging a bit and grinning. Mystique didn't cower away from him or ask him to stop. She didn't mind the Slytherin boy and his creepy ways. The grin on Trent's face linger a bit longer before fading again. What was he doing? He felt so many different emotions at once that it made his stomach twist as if he was about to barf. Though, he wasn't going to... It just felt like it. "At least, not that we know of." He bit his lip and looked around the room. It was really dirty in there.

“You... smell nice.”

Trent felt a blush creep up his face. "Err... Thanks. You do, too." Usually he would of deliberately sniffed her hair, but he was actually close enough to a girl to smell it. He felt a bit proud of himself. It wasn't often that he didn't feel the urge to scare a girl away, well... He didn't think he was scaring them, he just thought they weren't interested. After a few moments he had a thought pop into his head. And he was crazy enough to go through with it.

Though, he wasn't crazy. He just didn't see why he WOULDN'T go through with it. Trent had done it plenty of times and some of the girls didn't seem to mind. He bit his lip and thought about it before he sprung into action.

After a few hesitant beats, Trent looked down at Mysti. Even if she HAD been crying, she looked beautiful. And Trent couldn't believe he was even thinking that. He finally leaned his head in to Mysti, preparing to give her a kiss.

Mysti couldn’t help but laugh at Trent’s quip about Ainsley.  She seemed nice enough, but everyone knew of her reputation with guys.  Mysti could have defended her, but didn’t really feel like it at the moment.  She knew Trent’s history with Ainsley, well, some of it, and figured it was best to leave it alone. Besides, this was actually quite nice right now, and Mysti didn’t really want to ruin it.

“Ok, no crazed killers does seem like one good thing. But... Oh well. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe she’ll turn out better than she first seems. People can surprise you like that.”  Now, Mysti wasn’t specifically talking about the current situation with just the headmistress.  But it seemed that she was also a bit surprised by the current situation with Trent. He’d surprised her by being... different that she’d thought he was.  This was quite a different scenario between the two than they’d previously experienced.

And though Mysti couldn’t see the blush creeping up his face, she hoped he didn’t see her blushing when he said she smelled nice too.  Perhaps she might have felt a bit awkward, but for some reason, she didn’t.  She was more comfortable than she’d felt so far this year.

And then he started to lean in.  Mysti’s heart started to flutter.  She knew this day would come. Her first kiss.  Of course, this wasn’t how she’d been expecting it at all.  Mysti probably wouldn’t have planned it this way.  In the quick moment she had before her lips touched Trent’s, she realized she didn’t mind.

Mysti tilted her head back a little and leaned in towards Trent as he neared her.  Their lips touched for a few seconds, before the kiss was over. It might have seemed a bit longer to her, but it was nice.  After the kiss, Mysti looked up at him for a moment before looking down at her feet. She wasn’t sure what to say, and could feel the heat rising to her face as she blushed.

It was nice, kissing Mysti and all. She wasn't too harsh or too fast. Once their lips parted, Trent squirmed a bit and stared out the window. He could hardly believe what he was doing. But he liked what was happening and he probably wouldn't be telling Jasper or Atticus any of this later. Trent deserved a little love, after all. And Mysti was perfect to steal that away from. Well... Not steal. Mysti seemed willing to give Trent what he wanted. That sounds awful.

"S- S- So... Um... There's this dance coming up..." Trent bit his lip and looked back down at Mysti. He wasn't very sure what he was doing exactly, his multiple personalities were battling for control and his cloudy self-conscious was breezing through this with no problem at all. "I would be more than happy to take you." Any judging glances would get people punched in the face.

While a part of him was hissing with anger, he sent an innocent smile down at Mystique. How could she deny to greasy charm of Trent Travis? Sarcasm isn't ladylike, Trent thought to himself. The few girls that actually liked Trent most likely never talked to him, or they were Mystique apparently. So might as well take a chance with the one of those (un)lucky ladies.

"That is... If you don't have other plans." Trent's smile twitched. A Halloween dance wasn't formal, and girls would dress up as cute maids or cats. Though it would be nice to have a date to the dance, it would also be nice to just hang out with Atticus and laugh at the stupidity of everything. But he was choosing Mystique, abiding to his proper needs.

Mysti felt quite comfortable, though a little nervous.  But she was glad that Trent didn’t show any bad reactions. Hopefully that meant she wasn’t a bad kisser or anything. Having never done it before, she didn’t exactly have much of an idea on what the correct way to kiss someone was. Or to return a kiss from someone, as Trent was the one who initiated the kiss.  Whatever the matter, it seemed she hadn’t failed at it, and she couldn’t help but be pleased at herself.

"S- S- So... Um... There's this dance coming up... I would be more than happy to take you. That is... If you don't have other plans."

Mysti bit her lip, and smiled awkwardly to the ground.  She hadn’t been expecting that.  It was a bit surprising, but it was a good surprise.  She would actually have a date to a dance! Well, a date that wasn’t one of her friends going just as friends.  Her heart fluttered in her chest, and she looked up at him with a smile.

“I.. The Halloween dance? That would be... I mean, it sounds fun! So, yes. I would like to go with you.” She was getting all excited. This also meant that she would have to have an incredibly amazing costume for the dance.  Well, assuming it was the Halloween one that he was talking about.  Perhaps she and Fauna and some of the other girls could look for stuff together. Or try to find that room with many clothes that she, Fauna and Darcy had come across at the end of the year!

Speaking... or thinking of which... what would Fauna say? Hopefully she wouldn’t mind Mysti going to a dance with a Slytherin. And how Mysti wished Darcy were here. It was definitely time to try and owl Darcy about this! Hopefully she was somewhere in the position to get owls. Mysti had no idea what was going on with Darcy.

“Well, I must say, I’m in a bit of a better mood than I was when I first entered this room...” Mysti let out a small giggle.  “Certainly not what I’d expected. But thank you.”

She genuinely meant that.  Trent wasn’t the person she thought to have cheered her from the gloomy mood she was in.  But she was now glad that it was.

“I.. The Halloween dance? That would be... I mean, it sounds fun! So, yes. I would like to go with you.”

Trent smiled, brightly (and for once, it wasn't creepy), at Mysti. "Alright... Sounds good..." He bit his lip. He still could hardly believe what he was doing. What would his friends say? Well... Excluding Zoey, who was weird and hung around people like Mysti. Which wasn't weird- No. It definitely was. Trent suddenly felt very confused with the whole situation. Trent was going to the dance with Mysti, and that's final. No matter how much his mind wanted to foam at the mouth.

“Well, I must say, I’m in a bit of a better mood than I was when I first entered this room... Certainly not what I’d expected. But thank you.”

"Yeah..." Trent smirked, "Same here..." He leaned back in his chair, slightly. He could hardly believe what was happening now. Girls were actually liking Trent. But he could hardly believe that he was accepting them. Trent has had plenty of girlfriends and flings... Why would he really be desperate for one now? Well, going out with Mystique wasn't exactly desperate. She was a nice girl, and it was awful that other guys didn't accept her. Trent was unworthy, practically.... WHAT WAS HE SAYING!!??

But Trent kissed Mysti's cheek instead of crashing into a fiery wreck because of his confusion. Before he could finally go crazy, he spoke up "I ought to go..." Trent murmured, "Perhaps we could... I dunno... Meet up again?" He had no idea what he was saying. Trent stood up and smiled, "I see you..." Perhaps even stalk her. He grabbed his stuff and turned to give her another kiss. Though he gave no reason why he was leaving, he really just needed to get some air. Trent paused and gave her a smile before leaving, abruptly. Smooth operator indeed.
