“I was just coming to find someone, actually... You must have read my mind.”

A sarcastic laugh escaped him before he could cover his mouth and keep it in, trying to appear nonchalant as he stood there, looking down at the paperwork. He had to collect himself. Read her mind? Moira did not need to read that right then. However, he kept his thoughts to himself and slowly drummed his quill down on the papers. At least until he threw himself into the conversation.

“Yes...”

He pursed his lips to the side and tried not to look in her direction, failing miserably. Wasn’t she going to go home anyway? Working his mouth slowly as if he had a bad taste in it, he finally settled with as calm and lack of emotion look as he could. Which probably failed pretty hard. He also forced his gaze from Quincy to Moira, listening as she listed off what she thought they’d need. As long as it didn’t wipe out the man’s breathing ability, then he didn’t mind giving the poor guy a anticipatory pain potion.

“I’ll be back in a moment then.”

Jason plastered a fake half smile to his face a few minutes too late, finally left staring at the door as it shut behind Moira. Then he dropped it and glanced to Quincy. Almost in a hiss, he leaned forward slightly. “Read my mind? Really?” After a scoff and a pursing of his lips, he drummed his quill rather hard and loudly against his paperwork. “And what happened to you leaving to go home?!” He was still speaking slightly above a whisper, lest someone else hear them. He gripped the quill before dropping it.

Eddie was going to murder him. With his bare hands. Only if Jason let him. Making a face at the prospect, he closed his eyes and rubbed them with his index and thumb. Idiot... He really felt lower than dirt right then. “I can pretend nothing happened.” Right. Because he’d been doing a smashing job of that so far. Real convincing. “I mean, nothing did happen...” He was now talking more to himself than anything.

He could lie to himself right then! All it was was a friendly kiss. Yes. Because he did that with all his friends. All.. the time... Making a face at how that sounded in his head, he finally let his hand drop and glanced up at Quincy. “You were being too obvious.” She’d be back soon... how long had she been gone? He made another face and wished he was pleasantly unaware, asleep in his bed still.

It was hard to miss the sarcastic laugh that came from Jason, and even harder to not react to it. Instead, Quincy kept her strained smile in place as Moira said she would go and get what they needed. They both smiled at Moira as she made her way out into the corridor, but as soon as the door closed they were back to the way they had been before she had arrived - miserable and annoyed.

“Read my mind? Really?”

His tone was scoffing. "Well, I didn't hear you coming up with anything, genius!" He was really starting to grate on her now - what had originally seemed endearing was now just plain annoying. Her eyebrows pinched together with frustration and she placed her hands on her hips, waiting to be attacked some more.

“And what happened to you leaving to go home?!”

His frenzied whisper was loud for even a whisper. Quincy watched as he dropped the quill he had been playing with nervously. "I was!" She hissed at him, her eyes narrowed. "But in case you haven't noticed, we work together! I can't just up and leave every time we're assigned to the same patient! Especially not when someone else is there to see it!" She jerked her thumb at the door, indicating Moira's uncanny ability at coming in at the most awkward of times.

“I mean, nothing did happen...”

Quincy leant against the bottom of the bed, her arms folded across her chest. "Yeah," she said sarcastically, rolling her eyes. "Keep telling yourself that." Eddie certainly wouldn't think it was nothing. But right now, Quincy felt less worried about what Eddie would think and more frustrated at the way Jason was acting in front of others. When did playing it cool become uncool?

“You were being too obvious.”

Quincy looked at him, her expression one of disbelief. She let a small huff of air escape her lips. "I was being too obvious!?" she asked with her eyes wide. "Me!? You couldn't even say my bloody name!"

Just outside the door now, Moira took a breath before returning to the room.  Hopefully the two inside had sorted things out in her absence.  Best case, things would be back to normal when she walked in the door.  Worst case, she would be spending the next few moments as a buffer between the two of them.  Honestly if she wasn't worried about the pair remaining focused on the task at hand she'd probably weasel out of helping.

Pushing open the door she heard Quincy say, "Me!? You couldn't even say my bloody name!"  So much for best case.  So, placing a smile on her face she reentered the room, pretending she had heard nothing for now.  Again, it was none of her business.

"Smelling salts and pain potion as requested," she said as the door closed behind her.

She was trying to keep things light.  It was awkward enough right now.  Perhaps if she pretended like nothing was wrong it would rub off on them and they could get this over with faster.  Although, the whole thing might just try her patience if they continued to act like a couple of school children trying to hide the fact that they had broken some school rule.
