It is 12 ľ inches long, and spiraled padauk. The wand handle is intricately decorated in Celtic designs. The wood is somewhere in between brittle and inflexible. It has a chimera scale core. This wand is one of Liádan’s most treasured belongings. The wand which she carried to school and generally uses in public is a hair short of being ten inches long and made of yew. Its shaft is smooth and polished, with a plain, yet elegant spiraled handle. It is inflexible. Liádan rarely uses her heirloom wand in public. This is because she holds it so dear and is worried that it might fall victim to some unhappy accident. She only carries it if she feels the need to be better protected, or if she is trying to impress people.Physical Description: Liádan hardly looks her age, but rather appears to be a child playing dress up. She is extremely short, standing at half an inch shy of five feet tall. Her frame is very slender, lacking any feminine curves. Liádan has a light skin tone, though she does not appear to be unhealthily pale. It is obvious she takes good care of her complexion, and her skin is mostly free of blemishes. (Save a freckle here or there.)She has natural blond hair which falls well past her shoulders. She tends to put waves or curls in it to give it a bit of body, otherwise it lays limp and lifeless. Liádan takes great pride in her hair, and works hard to maintain its healthy look, and gets it trimmed on a bi-weekly basis. Her eyes are the most intriguing feature about her. Due to a childhood accident, Liádan developed heterochromia and now has two different eye colors. One is blue, while the other is mostly brown (although the top bit of the iris is the same shade of blue as the other eye). Liádan’s face has soft, almost child-like features. Liádan always wears nice dresses. They are rarely very showy, and tend to be more simple in their design, yet it does not detract from their quality. She wears only clothing from the most popular of wizarding designers, or dresses that are specially made for her. Liádan prefers to wear whites and creams, or various shades of brown and green. She rarely wears anything bright as she finds it to be too gaudy and too attention seeking. Liádan wear heels almost exclusively, hoping to mask her petite stature. She adores jewelry, emeralds and diamonds in particular.Personality Description: Liadán is a very well mannered, soft spoken woman. Raised in the lap of luxury, with two very elitist parents, she was taught early on to behave as a lady. Liadán never raises her voice, and is very obsessed with social etiquette. She treats everyone with respect, although it is rarely out of genuine like for others, but more of a way to butter them up to get what she wantsManipulation is a fine skill to have, and Liadán seems to have mastered it. Everything that Liadán does is in order to better her own situation. She could care less about the vast majority of people, and thinks of them as being expendable. Innumerable dresses, shoes, and accessories line her perfectly maintained, color coordinated closets. She loves jewelry, and refuses to wear anything that is not real. Liadán wants to be the best at everything, and does not care whose toes she steps on along the way. In fact, she actually would love to put every other competing company out of business. That way all the rewards are hers, and hers alone.History: Cáel Ó Móráin was the only son and thus the sole heir to all that the Ó Móráin family had. This consisted of considerable wealth which had been amassed through the centuries, and a remarkable pedigree. Raised to think highly of himself and to prize blood purity, he sought out an appropriate wife. He would marry a woman from a French pureblood family with the unmarried name of Adélaďde d’Aubigne. The two were a fine match, agreeing entirely upon all matters. She understood her duty as a wife and was content to be a pretty little statue in his world. She was much younger than he when they married, and eager to give him children.Adélaďde gave birth to a son first. Declan Ó Móráin would soon become his father’s pride and joy. He was a male heir, someone to carry on the family business and to do justice to the family name. Although Adélaďde was thrilled for her husband, she began to press upon him that she wished to have another child. Declan basically belonged to him, after all, and she wanted a little girl to treat like a little doll. And thus, Liádan was born. She was a small, sickly child. Doctors had little hope for her chances of survival, and both of her parents steeled themselves for the worst. The worst, however, never seemed to happen. Before they knew it she was a young child, perfectly healthy, if a bit under grown. She showed an amazing intellect, even at a young age. Her mother could not have asked for a prettier or better behaved child.Liádan enjoyed the lessons she went to as a child. She was particularly fond of her music lessons, showing a natural aptitude for the piano and the violin. Liádan easily retained information, and quickly memorized the names and faces of family friends, and the names of families that her parents deemed worthy of mentioning. Their own blood prejudices would pass on to her, and she would hold them more dear than they could have ever imagined. Her parents, both so happy to have such a wonderful little girl, never noticed that their daughter never acted much like a child. She was far too bright for her age, and grasped the worries of the world with far too much clarity. She had a shrewd and calculating nature, without ever having to be taught. She played her part- wore the pretty dresses her mother bought her, and acted docile and meek, but there was always something off about the child. Something… dark. When Liádan would start Hogwarts, her brother would be a fifth year. The Ó Móráin family would suffer a terrible blow in her first year. Her father, who had long been suspected of many illegal crimes, would be caught, prosecuted, and sent to Azkaban. Her older brother’s bragging about his deeds, and the carelessness of who heard was to blame. His mouth had shot off to the wrong person, who had quickly informed the authorities. It was not just his word which was sent to the ministry, but something much more damning- his personal journal, the one had kept since his first year at Hogwarts. The journal was full of many family secrets and crimes her father had committed. Cáel Ó Móráin would be charged and convicted with a long list of crimes. It varied from illegal experimental breeding of magical creatures, to black market transactions, and crimes against muggles. Her father had put a magical ward around their land in Ireland. It was not quite so passive as the one on Hogwarts- which simply causes others to look away. Anyone of non-magical blood who investigated too closely would be caught in magical snares, and die.Upon being charged, her father would quickly rewrite his will, disinheriting her brother before being sent to Azkaban. Declan was sent away from home, to live with a wayward aunt. Liádan would never forgive her brother for this transgression. Their family’s reputation and livelihood was on the line. And yet she would be forced to live in the same dormitories as her brother until he would graduate. While in Slytherin house, Liádan worked hard to forge connections with those who had names that impressed her or would be useful to her. She was manipulative and cunning even at such a young age. And the darkness was resurfacing, or so it seemed. Liádan was fascinated by the dark magic she read about in the newspapers and heard mentions of within her house. She wanted nothing more than to gain the power which other dark witches and wizards of her time had gained. The final battle would take place in her second year. And darkness would seemingly be vanquished. It crushed a part of her heart, to think that such power could be taken down so easily. It crushed her hopes of gaining it, of learning the dark secrets she so desperately desired to know. School would resume the following year, and Liádan took on her non-core classes. Her mother forced her to take Care of Magical Creatures (for obvious reasons) and she opted to take Arithmancy and Ancient Runes. The last few years of her school career would be marked by spectacular scholastic performance. Liádan did well in every class, struggling only in Potions and Herbology. Still, with hard work and extra effort put into studying Liádan managed to pass the classes with points that were slightly above average. She was a responsible student, and most teachers liked her (although they were also put off by her as well, but it was always something they could not put their fingers on). Liádan’s father would die in Azkaban in her sixth year. It was difficult for her, and caused her to hate her brother even more. She had always seen her father a strong, respectable man, and that he should suffer so cruel a fate due to carelessness on the part of another human being- a family member no less- was inexcusable. She wanted nothing more than to see her brother’s demise. Eventually, Liádan would graduate. She would return home to their large home, and spend her time with her mother. The business became hers upon graduation, along with the rest of her inheritance. Her mother presented to her a very special wand, one that her father had specified should be hers if she did well in school and took care of the business. It was a masterpiece, old and powerful, and suited her better than the wand she had used throughout school. It had a propensity to the dark arts, something which caused her to treasure it even more. Her free time upon graduating was spent learning enough to handle the financial aspect of the business, and at least to get a basic understanding of what her staff was for. Liádan cared little about the business, but did love the money it brought in. Her first steps were to eliminate all illegal activities, much to the chagrin of her mother. She let go all current employees and entirely replaced the staff from the bottom up. She wanted to give her family business a new image, one which would make their products more buyable by the world at large. She was eighteen at the time she did this, and it has been four years since. Though some remember the unsavory reputation, many have learned to trust Ó Móráin Farms again. They no longer cheat or swindle, and offer better potions ingredients than many other companies. The business is thriving again, and Liádan takes pride in knowing she is the reason that the business revived, and is starting to flourish in new ways. The cash flow is steady, and steadily growing. In her spare time after re-working the business, Liádan began to dabble in the dark arts. She managed to find many books in the hidden spaces of the library in her home with many spells and potions that intrigued her. If she showed an aptitude for regular magic, he capabilities in the dark arts, especially with the heirloom wand, were spectacular. It gave her a true sense of power to think of things she could do with her wand that others could not, and often seeks out more information from new and different sources. She has recently taken to visiting Knockturn Alley to poke around, citing various excuses that are applicable to the maintenance of a farm instead of admitting the truth behind her visits. She is afraid that the wrong person might find out and ruin the reputation of the business once again, something she does not wish to chance. She continued this experimentation- finding delight in the tales of African and Egyptian magic. Including voodoo. In the Fall of 2008, Liadán found herself infatuated with an old school mate named Christian. He was a half-blood, and while Liadán was always dissatsified with this, she tried to reason it away and justify her involvement with him to herself. Christian was part of a group known as the Wizarding Blood Alliance (WBA). Liadán subsequently became involved with the WBA, as a supporter and active member. In December of 2008, Liadán would kidnap Robin Adani- the adopted son of an auror and her muggle husband. His birth father- Cináed Tawse- was leader of the WBA. Liadán became convinced she was kidnapping the child for his own good. She wanted to prove herself worthy to the WBA, and gain Cináed's approval. Christian was his right hand man, and she though it was a necessary step to stake claim on what she wanted and what she thought of as "hers". In January of 2009, disaster would strike Ó Móráin Farms. The result of a voodoo ritual gone bad, Liadán's creatures suffered mysterious illness. They began to die- and her profit severely decreased. She recalled the potions ingredients from her farm, but many of them were not sent back in. (Which would eventually play a key role in the widespread werewolf attacks of March 2009, as a result of faulty ingredients.) The reputation of her business was severely jeopardized.Liadán's relationship with Christian would end after Valentine's Day of 2009. She risked taking him to a public event, and found that the ridicule she faced afterward from her purist friends was unbearable. Despite her affections, she ceased contact with him. Shortly after this time, Liadán found herself romantically involved with Vedir Prideaux and Oscar Whitman- both of which were esteemed members of pureblood society. In late spring of 2009, suspicions were cast in Liadán's direction- that she might, indeed, be the woman behind the kidnappings. After what Liadán saw as constant and inappropriate pestering, she would eventually be brought to the ministry. Liadán sang like a canary- fingering Cináed Tawse as the man who had encouraged her, and naming Christian as the rat within the ministry. In exchanged for her aid, Liadán was not charged with kidnapping. Instead, she was charged with illegal breeding of dragons and various other infringements involving her company.Since her convinction, Liadán has been ceased all illegal activity. She is working to repair her reputation, foster meaningful and important friendships, and put her spotty past behind her. Liadán became engaged to Oscar Whitman on New Year's Eve of 2009/New Year's Day 2010 (it was a midnight proposal, super romantic.) The two were wed on March 20, 2010. Liadán moved into Kerry Cove, leaving the estate in the care of her house elves and some trusted employees. The Job: Liádan currently owns the family business. After her brother was disinherited and her mother was too old to try to produce her father another male heir, it was decided that Liádan would be the one to take over upon her father’s death. Liádan’s father did not find his wife capable of running the business, and as such had his will set up so that total control would go directly to his eldest daughter.Ó Móráin Farms breeds magical creatures for the purpose of breaking them down to sell the parts for potions ingredients. There was a time in the past that the family also bred illegal creatures, selling them on the black market at exorbitant prices. Since Liádan has taken control of the business, this has stopped. She does not dare to find herself serving a sentence in Azkaban like her father did. Liádan is also fully aware that the ministry of magic has likely not forgotten the activities her father participated in under the guise of a respectable business. Liádan has more of a mind for business than the practical aspect of how the creatures are taken care of. Mostly she is a figurehead, with many others beneath her who actually make sure that everything runs smoothly. So long as the profits do not drop drastically he mostly stays out of it, allowing them to take care of everything.Sum up your character in one paragraph: Liadán is first and foremost a proper, young, pureblooded witch who is very concerned with conserving her bloodline. She is secondly a business woman, who takes care of her company with the utmost concern. She is a visionary, attempting to remarket in a more savory way in order to increase profits. She has a budding interest in the dark arts, and has recently taken on the investigation of such arts more seriously. Liadán is manipulative and cunning, and is very two faced- she is rarely what she portrays to the public. Recently, a foray into voodoo cursed her farm. Liadán also toys with necromancy under the guidance of Alberic Grimm. She also kidnapped Robin Adani. This would add breaking and entering, as well as assault and kidnapping to her criminal record if she were ever caught for it. She altered the memories of both of his parents. Liadán also aided in passing the child on to Cináed. She was also part of the reason that the boy was not taken back into custody by Tamis Raynor- she aided in making sure Cináed could take him when he went on the run for the crime. The breeding of dragons has also been a recent endeavor, which is strictly forbidden by the Ministry of Magic. This was a crime her father committed in the past and was prosecuted for. Thus far she has not been successful in her attempts. The curse on the farm has prevented the baby dragons from living for very long.Convictions: After confessing to kidnapping, Liadan struck a deal with the auror office. She was charged with illegal breeding of dragons along with various other charges in relation to her business. Since this conviction she has ceased illegal activity in her life. The Gaelic prefix 'O' indicates 'male descendant of', plus the personal byname Morain, from 'mor' meaning 'great' or 'large'. The original territory of the O'Morans lay in Elphin, County Galway, and at Ardnaree, County Mayo. Another branch of the sept was located in County Leitrim and a Coat of Arms granted to the Moran family of Ballinamore in this county is described as 'azure on a mount proper two lions combatant or supporting a flagstaff also proper there from a flag argent'. A chief of the sept, known as O'Morain, resided near Ballina in County Mayo. Another, O'Moghrain, was chief of Criffon, County Galway. The Galway sept was a branch of Ui Maine, an ancient population group of mid Galway and South Roscommon. The head of the powerful Roscommon family was seated near Ballintobber. One County Offaly clan, O'Murchain, (the sea-warriors), have Anglicized their name Morahan, Morrin and Moran. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of O'Morain, which was dated 1559 - in the Elizabethan 'Fiants' for Connacht, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth l of England, known as 'Good Queen Bess', 1558 - 1603. Surnames became necessary when governments introduced personal taxation. In England this was known as Poll Tax. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling." It is a spacious house with expansive lands and gardens, including a lake and a cemetery. Outside of the main home are huge tracts of land that house varying magical creatures. The lake is also used to cultivate water dwelling animals. The animals have a high standard of living so that only the best potions ingredients can be produced from their parts. After animals die or are harvested, they are dissembled in two large buildings at the very edge of the property so as to not to be offensive to those living in the estate. They are shipped out directly from the home to various business which need the animal ingredients for potions brewing or other things. (Such as wand making.)The lands are protected by magical fields. For generations these protections have a darker nature, not simple cloaking like that of Hogwarts. In 1997 when Cáel Ó Móráin was arrested by the Ministry it was discovered the wards around the lands would immediately kill anyone of non-magical blood. In the last ten years all magical wards have been redone to cloak and to ward off intruders. The only way to get in is if you know where you are going and if you are of magical descent.Front view of the home. The house is closed in by a wall that is overgrown with ivy. (That is not a hedge.)Side view of the house, including the courtyard.Lake on the propertyGardensFamily PlotInside the EstateThe inside of the home is decorated in a simple but luxurious Victorian style. There are mostly muted shades of green, gold, and brown. All wooden accents and furniture in the house are a very rich, dark mahogany. There are many priceless antiques decorating the various hallways and rooms of the home. All rooms which are rarely used have their doors shut. The main entry way is possibly the most lavish (apart from the ballroom) as it is the part that most people see. The sitting room where guests are received is equally luxurious and done in impeccable tastes. At the door all guests will always be greeted by one of the two house elves that belong to the estate. Libby and Felda are the two house elves, with perfect manners. (They are not loud and obnoxious like one thinks of when they imagine Winky or Dobby.) Guests are then shown to the sitting room to await the master or mistress of the household, assuming he/she is home. (At the time Liadán is mistress of the house. She resides in the home alone as her parents have both passed on.) Skip to next post

Skip to next post

Skip to next post

Re: Liadán Ó Móráin: Owner of Ó Móráin Farms Reply #4 on October 21, 2010, 10:52:29 AM Ó Móráin Family Tree & BackgroundFamily Motto: "Sanctimonia est victoria" | "Purity is victory"Ó Móráin Name History: "Moran is an Anglicized form of two distinct Gaelic Irish sept names - O'Morain and O'Moghrain of Connacht. Throughout the centuries, surnames in every country have continued to "develop" often leading to astonishing variants of the original spelling." Re: Liadán Ó Móráin: Owner of Ó Móráin Farms Reply #5 on November 06, 2010, 10:19:25 AM Ó Móráin EstateThe Ó Móráin family has been living in an estate in Ireland as far back as most family history can be traced. It is a spacious house with expansive lands and gardens, including a lake and a cemetery.
