Dear Diary,

My name is Pax Wintergreen. My grandmother bought my this diary when I was just a baby. My dad gave it to me a little while ago because Grandma wanted me to have it when I got accepted into Hogwarts. Hogwarts is the school I will be going to this year to learn proper magic. Grandma couldn't give this diary to me herself because she died when I was a baby, in the Battle of Hogwarts. I really wish I could have known her, so having something she got for me is nice. Maybe I could write to her when I write in this diary. I think she'd like that.

Dear Grandma,

Thank you so much for my diary! I really like the picture of the front. The pine tree forest and the falling snow look so peaceful. I told Dad it looked like Christmas, and he told me you got a book with that picture on it because pine trees stay green in the winter, so it's like they're Wintergreen, like me.

I got my Hogwarts letter, so I'm going to be going to Hogwarts like you and Grandpa and Dad. I'm really excited, but I'm a bit disappointed that I'll be finished by the time Poppy is old enough to go. You never met Poppy, but she's your granddaughter and don't worry, we tell her all about you so she knows who you are. It would have been really nice to go to Hogwarts with her. I hope she's not lonely without me when it's her turn to go. I won't be lonely. Dad said I could take one of the kittens with me when I go. The house is still full of cats just like when you were still here!

Dad's taking me to Diagon Alley tomorrow for school supplies. I don't get to go very much, so I'm really looking foward to it. We're going to leave quite early, so I'd better go to bed so I'm not too tired.
