He has light brown skin, earnest deep brown eyes, a snub nose, a friendly grin, and dark, curly hair trimmed short enough to keep it tame without losing its character. And home in both muggle clothing and wizarding robes, Pax often wears a combination of both.Personality Description: Pax is eager, idealistic, creative, a vegetarian, and a bit of a geek. Brought up in a half wizarding, half muggle home and exposed equally to both sides of his heritage, there isn’t a lot about either world that takes him by surprise, but he still gets excited about the things he’s passionate about. While loyal to his friends, he tries to see the best in everyone, and has an indefatigable sense of fairness. Honest, well-meaning and trusting, Pax is a bit too naïve to realise how innocent he is. Not everything comes naturally to him, but Pax is conscientious and works hard to make up for it, especially for subjects that particularly fascinate him, like potions. His free time is devoted to studying divination (since he can’t take the class yet), craftwork ranging from jewellery to woodwork to sewing, reading comic books, playing with his kitten Vesper, and occasionally attempting to gather enough players for a game of Dungeons and Dragons.History:The Wintergreen clan is an old wizarding line whose blood purity has been diluted over time. The family has a history of Seers that earned it some respect, but there has not been a descendent with the Sight born into the family for several generations. (The family also has a history of keeping lots of cats, but that’s less prestigious.) During Voldemort’s first rise to power, they were deemed blood-traitors, and despite keeping out of the fighting, suffered a number of losses. During the Second War, the Wintergreens were much more active.By the time Voldemort was at the height of his power for the second time, family patriarch Phineas Wintergreen and his muggleborn wife Zora were running a bookshop in Hogsmeade, and their only son Perceval, a freelance writer, had settled down with a muggle sales manager named Vivian Stone in Birmingham, where they had married and had a son of their own, Paxton. When Pax was nineteen months old, both of his grandparents rushed to Hogwarts from Hogsmeade to fight in the deciding battle of the war. Phineas lived to tell the tale. Zora did not.Pax grew up in a house full of cats to stories of his paternal grandmother, and how much she loved him. Though he was never led to believe she was a saint, he took her memory on as a sort of role model. He would take to heart the importance of equality. Zora was not his only influence, however; his parents’ gentle discipline, his maternal grandparents’ praise, his paternal grandfather’s refusal to coddle him and his maternal uncle’s encouragement that he keep an open mind did a lot to shape his values and beliefs.Close as he was to his muggle mother’s side of the family as well as his father’s, he learned not to speak too openly about magic, which was not too difficult. Pax was a fairly quiet child for a while growing up, preferring to absorb the wisdom of others than contribute his own. For a while this was a little difficult for him; he was teased a bit in the early years of primary school for being a bit of a slow learner. He got tired of this and determinedly started working harder to compensate. Though he still got teased for being good at school as much as for being subpar, he found that as long as was doing his best and had a friend or two who liked him as he was, he tended not to care what other people thought of him, and liked to focus on defending others rather than himself. When Pax was eight years old, Perceval and Vivian had another child, Poppy. Pax was somewhat uncertain about being having a sibling (for one thing, the house was already quite full with all the cats they had), but when he saw his little sister for the first time he instantly adored her, and glowed with the sense of responsibility he felt at being a big brother. He helped out with looking after her whenever he could, and he and his mother even started constructing a dollhouse for her to play with when she was older. He had been learning the basics of woodwork, painting and glossing from his mother, his father had taught him to sew, and he was starting to muddle out jewellery-making as well.Pax’s Hogwarts acceptance letter arrived a few months after he had made the decision to become a vegetarian like his father and his Grandma Zora. Though worried at having to leave home, especially his baby sister, he was more eager than anything else to learn magic, especially potions and divination, and found himself ready to embrace the new challenge. He was given one of the kittens from the Wintergreen household’s latest litter, a smoky grey female tabby named Vesper, as an early birthday present to keep him company in his new school. How Do You Fit Into Your House?:Pax strongly believes in treating everyone equally, and analysing both sides of an argument for the sake of justice. Though his loyalty is unshakable and his friendship, once offered, is retracted only in the face of the unforgivable, he tries not to let allegiances cloud his judgement. A student whose talent lies more in tireless work than innate intelligence, he cares a great deal about not letting himself, or others, down.Writing Sample:‘Can I?’‘No, Pax, sorry. It’s too sharp.’ Mrs Wintergreen gave her son an apologetic smile, then quickly turned back to the piece of wood she was cutting with the jigsaw.‘I won’t be pointing it at me,’ Pax pointed out.‘You won’t mean to, but it could get away from you. Look, you’ve still got an edge to sand, why don’t you do that?’‘I’ll be careful!’ he insisted. Pax didn’t mind smoothing the rough edges of the dollhouse walls with sandpaper, but he really wanted to try actually cutting the wood.Mrs Wintergreen opened her mouth, undoubtedly to deny his request again, when the door opened. Mr Wintergreen stepped into the workshop, beaming from ear to ear, one hand conspicuously behind his back.‘What is it, Dad?’ Pax piped up immediately, temporarily forgetting the electrical saw. ‘Is it the new set of dice I ordered? Or that chimera miniature from the shop? Ooh, is it a DS game?’ His father didn’t buy him many games for his handheld console, as he was worried his magic would make them malfunction, but Pax lived in hope.Mr Wintergreen shook his head, still grinning, and produced from behind his back a rather thick envelope, on which Pax could make out curling script in black ink. ‘Sorry to disappoint.’‘Is that…’ For once, Pax was almost speechless as he got to his feet, reaching out for the letter. Mr Wintergreen handed it over. Mrs Wintergreen shut off the jigsaw. Pax swallowed as he turned over the envelope in his hands. There was the seal, still unbroken. ‘You didn’t open it?’‘Of course not! It’s addressed to you.’Pax licked his lips nervously. ‘What… what if it says I didn’t get in?’‘What?’ The trace of a chuckle flitted over Mr Wintergreen’s face, but vanished when he realised his son was seriously worried. ‘Of course it won’t. You’re a wizard, they wouldn’t keep you out.’‘But… I’m not very magical,’ Pax said, dubiously. ‘I haven’t made much stuff happen. Only tiny little things, they might not even be me, maybe I’m a muggle like Mum…’‘Well, there wouldn’t be anything wrong with that,’ Mr Wintergreen replied, looking lovingly towards his wife, who in turn was smiling bemusedly at Pax. ‘Why don’t you open it and see? Here.’ He handed Pax a letter opener, and Pax, uncomfortably aware of a nervous tremor in his hand, eased the letter open. There were a couple of sheets of parchment; surely there would only be one if it were just a rejection letter? Once it was unfolded, his eyes immediately jumped to the line that said, ‘pleased to inform you,’ but he made himself read it slowly from start to finish. Twice. Only then did the anxiety bubbling in his stomach turn into an excited fluttering.Pax turned to the next page, drinking in the information much quicker. ‘Look at all the stuff I need!’ he breathed, impressed. ‘Dad,’ he said, looking up to see his father wearing a warm smile, ‘when can we go to Diagon Alley?’Sum up your character in one paragraph:A wizard from both a magical and muggle background, Pax is an open-minded, enthusiastic boy with a strong sense of loyalty balanced with honesty and equality. He always wants to see the best in people, perhaps a little more than is good for him. His only natural talent is in divination, but he works hard at everything else too. Both artsy and an unabashed geek, Pax doesn’t bother trying to be cool. He knows the best friends he can find are the ones who like him for who he is. Skip to next post Campaign Notes Reply #2 on September 20, 2009, 11:21:55 AM Plot TrackingOverviewPax is a friendly, forthcoming first-year Hufflepuff who tries to see the best in everyone, make informed decisions, and take action on what he feels is right. He doesn’t get everything right all the time, but he does his best. Though he is a bit lacking in magical ability and innate cleverness, he makes up for it with sheer effort and enthusiasm, and is not known to shy away from a challenge. Pax is a geeky, artsy, vegetarian individualist through and through.Brief HistoryPax’s family line suffered losses in both wizarding wars; in the Second War, his paternal grandmother died at the Battle of Hogwarts. This contributed a lot to his indefatigable sense of fairness. Growing up, he struggled a bit in school, but learned to compensate for this by doing extra work. He also gained a sense of responsibility when his baby sister Poppy was born, to such an extent that his parents gave him a kitten, Vesper, to take with him to Hogwarts.Main PlotsPax hasn’t made a great impression on everyone, most notably Effie Grissom-Dolohov and Keegan Kearney when they first met on the Hogwarts Express, and Mairead ó Fearghail when he was one of the ones to stand up for Eirene Antonopoulos is their first Herbology class.Bumpy starts with his fellow first-years aside, Pax got along well with the rest of his house; when he learned about housemate Ollie Foley’s expulsion due to her lycanthropy, it gave him a reason to join student activist group SAWS, and even accompany Fauna Blake to ask Head of Hufflepuff Professor Mainwaring’s advice. Although, things had taken an unfortunate turn when Pax had unwittingly informed Headmistress Snark of the fire Darcy Bloxham set in the Hospital Wing in protest of the expulsion; he still feels partially responsible for Darcy herself getting expelled.Pax got to spend some time with Mairead, Eirene and some other students outside of class, but not quite in a way he had anticipated; the group’s foray into the Forbidden Forest in late September was more than enough adventure for Pax. Besides, he was busy enough already with his extracurricular activities; being an arts-and-crafts enthusiast, he enjoyed the Art Club, and he even managed to persuade his friend Eirene to accompany him to the Muggle Appreciation Club. He finds her interesting, her focus on schoolwork commendable, and her finicky nature endearing. It wasn't until around December, though, that he started developing a crush on her, and he has resolved not to tell her about it for fear of making things awkward.Noriko Wakahisa: Slytherin first-yearPax got to know Noriko through Eirene, and liked her a lot more than he thought he would initially. He worries a little about her muggle-fearing tendencies and hopes to encourage her out of them. Because she scares so easily, he's also a little protective of her.Mary Beth MacEvoy: Hufflepuff first-yearA fellow member of the 'so naive it hurts' club, Mary Beth is one of Pax's favourite people based almost solely on her positive attitude. He also appreciates having someone with whom to talk about quidditch and commiserate about struggling in class.Classmates (friendly terms)Dahlia Collins: Hufflepuff first-yearHarper O'Malley: Hufflepuff first-yearCharles Harcroft: Gryffindor first-yearClassmates (neutral terms)Heliotrope LeJean: Hufflepuff first-yearPeter Marcolf: Hufflepuff first-yearObderedria Pienas: Hufflepuff first-yearCytherea Connor: Gryffindor first-yearHannah Harper: Gryffindor first-yearEllison Hayter: Ravenclaw first-yearPhilo Falkin: Ravenclaw first-yearCyhirae Trishna: Ravenclaw first-yearOrmen Morne: Slytherin first-yearClassmates (uncertain terms)Erik Collins: Gryffindor first-yearMairead ó Fearghail: Gryffindor first-yearKeegan Kearney: Gryffindor first-yearTynan MacFusty: Gryffindor first-yearAdley Rothwell: Gryffindor first-yearEuphemia Grissom-Dolohov: Slytherin first-yearHousematesFauna BlakeFauna is hands down the big sister Pax never had. He admires her activism and attitude, cares about her a lot, and, though he wouldn't say so, wants her approval.Ruby FlickwickAnother somewhat sisterly-figure to Pax, Ruby scores very high in Pax's estimation because of her nurturing nature and status as prefect. He also worries about her a little from time to time, though he wouldn't admit as much.Adelia DelacroixAddy has one of those quirky personalities that Pax finds himself at ease around, so while he doesn't know her all that well, he always enjoys her company.Eveline ChancelierEveline is someone Pax knows he can rely on to be mature and reasonable, so though he doesn't see her much outside of SAWS, she always a welcome presence to him there.Mystique KetteridgeMysti is one of Pax's idols due to the fact that she captains the Hufflepuff quidditch team. He doesn't know her very well, but he thinks very highly of her, at least in all things quidditch-related.Figaro SellaphixPax has a hard time knowing what to make of Figaro. He realises he means well and tries hard, but at the same time he sometimes comes off as insensitive, a trait completely foreign to Pax. He generally likes hanging around him, though.Winifred OliverDax FayetteDion FayetteDarcy BloxhamOther StudentsBaxter FoxPax idolises Baxter a little due to how clever he is and how much work he does. He's the sort of person Pax would like to be when he's older.Sophie FlickwickPax is a little scared of Sophie, and a little in awe of her. All in all though, he holds her in very high regard and thinks of her fondly.Sasha SchlagenweitPax has somewhat mixed feelings about Sasha. On the one hand, he seems really nice, and Eirene thinks well of him. On the other, he and Fauna have been at odds a lot. As far as the game itself goes, he's a long-time D&D player and has run a few games in his time. And for the organisational aspect of running a club, he has secured the support of Professor Trishna and the use of the Astronomy Tower as a venue. He's also sounded out some schoolmates on the idea in the hopes of gaining a solid membership for the fledgling club.Though Pax has never really been in a proper leadership position before, he's proved himself fairly responsible with how seriously he takes his studies and numerous other extracurricular activities. His time in SAWS, especially, has acclimatised him to the amount of dedication required to make a new club work. What Do You Think the Most Important Aspect of This Job Is:? The Gaming Club isn't politically driven like SAWS, or project-based like the Art Club or Hogwarts Players might be. It's basically about fun for the sake of fun, though if the club is ever belittled, Pax will argue that some games are an exercise in strategy and teamwork.Pax intends to divide the leadership duties up with Philo as fairly as possible, in order to make sure neither of them overstretch themselves to the detriment of the club. He's determined to run things as smoothly as possible to make sure that everyone involved can pick up the games easily and just be able to have fun.Tell a Story From Your Past That Has Proven Your Mettle: From Astronomy Towers and Dragons, in which Pax proves his enthusiasm for D&D and takes steps to start a club:Pax was on a mission. And not a SAWS, or Art Club, or any-club related mission... well, it wasn't a club yet anyway. Pax was a serious child in a lot of ways, but sometimes he just wanted to indulge in pure, unadulterated fun. And one of the things Pax had missed about his life in Birmingham was a specific brand of escapist fun he could only find in video games, and tabletop roleplay. He imagined his old primary school friends, now in secondary school, still going around to each other's houses to battle it out on Super Smash Bros, or meeting every week to go on quests and dungeon crawls. Video games, of course, were not an option in a highly-magical environment. So that left roleplay. Pax was finally going to take steps towards something he'd been daydreaming about since September; starting a Hogwarts Dungeons and Dragons group. But before he could start recruiting players, he needed a venue. And from What Counsel Has the Hooded Moon, in which Pax accompanies other members of SAWS in meeting With Governor Zephyr, and feels it important he contribute to the discussion to demonstrate that he takes it seriously:'I th-think you got everything Fauna,' he piped up hesitantly. He didn't want to go through this meeting without contributing anything, even if he was anxious. 'Um. We, um, we also got some new members over the year.' They'd also lost a few, but Pax felt less inclined to mention that. 'So it's, it's a growing, um, organisation. Because, um, because SAWS is about educating other people, but it's also about educating ourselves. Students can join to find out more about the issues as well as... y'know. Helping inform other people.' That was certainly why Pax had joined. Suddenly worried that he'd spoken out of turn or simply stated the blindingly obvious, though, Pax cast an anxious glance in Fauna's direction. Skip to next post

Character Sheet Reply #1 on September 20, 2009, 11:20:05 AM BiographyFull Character Name: Paxton Felix Caden WintergreenCharacter Birthday & Age: 28th September, 1996, age 12City & Country of Birth: Birmingham, EnglandPureblood, Halfblood or Muggleborn: Halfblood (wizard father, muggle mother)House & Year: Hufflepuff first-yearWand: Phoenix tail feather and larch, 9 inches, supplePhysical Description:A little bit on the small side, but not overly so, Pax doesn’t have any hang-ups about his appearance. Skip to next post
Campaign Notes Reply #2 on September 20, 2009, 11:21:55 AM Plot TrackingOverviewPax is a friendly, forthcoming first-year Hufflepuff who tries to see the best in everyone, make informed decisions, and take action on what he feels is right. Special Title Request Reply #7 on February 03, 2012, 06:13:01 PM Character Name: Pax WintergreenTitle Applying For: Co-President of the Gaming ClubLink to Accepted Biography: LinkWhat Experience has Prepared You For This Honor?:Pax has been doing some work to set up what was initially to be a Dungeons and Dragons Club, but what has evolved into a consolidated all-purpose Gaming Club after he and Philo Falkin got to talking.
